Examine possible occupational stressors that are negatively influencing recruitment and retention. What improvements would you suggest to alleviate these stressors?

Improve Employee retention paper

Read the following scenario:

You are an independent consultant who has recently been hired by JC’s Casino to help improve retention issues concerning the dealers and housekeepers. Most of the dealers have been leaving the casino to work at other casinos in the area, even though JC’s Casino pays better than their local competition. On several exit interviews, many of the dealers have cited the pit boss, Joe, as being “toxic, overbearing, evil, and incompetent.” Joe is the casino owner’s step-son and the HR director, Tom Sneed, is afraid to confront the owner.

Among the housekeeping staff, there has been an above normal rate of absenteeism and high turnover of rooms. Many of the managers who work in accounting, payroll, and other departments have had to ask their full-time employees to help cover for housekeeping by cleaning rooms periodically. Because of this problem, the hotel has had to adjust their check in times from 3 p.m. (the industry standard) to 6 p.m. Customers have arrived earlier and the hotel has had to accommodate them by creating a room to hold luggage. They have also had to hire staff to man the luggage room.

The director of housekeeping, Andrew Keehn, has been working hard to add more staff but he states “good help is hard to find.” The housekeeper’s current hourly wage is comparable to other casinos in the area but because of the staffing shortage, the housekeepers have to clean more rooms per day than their counterparts. The casino owner only knows that there are some issues with keeping the dealers and that some customers were upset because they had to wait to check in. You have been hired for a quick fix and your suggestions were needed yesterday.

Write a 1,400- to 1,700-word paper in which you identify each issue and make recommendations to JC, the casino president, on how to improve overall retention. What the scenario does not provide, you can create. Be sure to include the following in your assessment:

Evaluate at least two work motivation theories and how they can be applied in order to improve employee recruitment and retention at JC’s Casino.

Examine possible occupational stressors that are negatively influencing recruitment and retention. What improvements would you suggest to alleviate these stressors?

Examine the role of job satisfaction and its influence on retention at the casino. Provide recommendations for improving job satisfaction of the employees and how that can play a part in successfully improving retention.

Discuss counterproductive employee behavior occurring at the casino. What suggestions would you make to reduce the counterproductive behavior and increase productive employee behavior?

Include at least three references.

What ethical and legal issues do you think are the most challenging or common?

Refer to the University of Phoenix Material: Professional Interview and Response Guidelines for assignment guidelines.

Interview two helping service professionals from two different settings, such as a school, hospital, or prison. Ensure that at least one of the interviewees is a clinical psychologist.

Provide the name and work environment of the two professionals you interviewed.

Ask the following questions to each of your interviewees:

In what setting do you practice? How long have you been practicing?

What are your specialties or areas of clinical focus?

What are the most common disorders you treat?

Do you have any special certifications or training beyond your original graduate coursework?

How do you approach therapy or treatment? Do you use specific modalities, techniques, or interventions?

What ethical and legal issues do you think are the most challenging or common?

Do you have an opinion on where you think the field of psychology is heading?

What do you enjoy most about your work?

What advice would you provide an aspiring psychologist or therapist?

Discuss, in a 350- to 700-word response, the similarities and differences of how these professionals approach treatment in their settings.

Explore the role of the Security and Exchange commission on the business environment.

Research Assignment (an individual assignment)

As we explore the role of the Security and Exchange commission on the business environment (Chapter 12 Reading), we see that there are many rules and regulations that must be followed in order for a publically traded business to operate in the United States:

  • Choose two laws and/or regulations that apply to United States public companies. Then prepare a 2–3 page research paper in APA format and citation style addressing the following:

  2. Discuss the implications these laws and/or regulations have on the business environment.
  3. Evaluate whether these laws and/or regulations are effective in achieving their intended purpose.
  4. Assess whether there are any changes or modifications necessary. If not, justify your reasons. If so, briefly propose a solution to address the limitations.

Critical Elements:

  • Write your original analytical essay in Standard American English. Please be sure to include an Introduction, Body (addressing all the checklist items), and Conclusion.
  • Pay special attention to correct grammar, style, and mechanics.

Do Americans and English people think about soccer in the same way? Explain.

It is not a “definitional” question. Here are some examples of possible definitional questions on your topic (they are examples only so please don’t use them):

  • How does the meaning of soccer vary among the age of fans?
  • Does playing soccer alter your view of the game compared with a long-time fan?
  • Do Americans and English people think about soccer in the same way?
  • How does one’s social class affect one’s view of soccer?

What do you notice in common about these questions? How do they diff from yours? You can image the paper (and thesis) that might come from each of these? How would that diff from yours?

Identify the most important (5–7) strategic issues facing the organization or business unit.

The end result of this course is developing a strategy audit. In this module, you will outline and draft a preliminary framework for your final product. This provides you with the opportunity to get feedback before a final submission.

In Module 1, you reviewed the instructions for the capstone strategy audit assignment and grading rubric due in Module 5. By now, you have completed the following steps:

  • Identified the organization for your report
  • Interviewed at least one key mid-level or senior-level manager
  • Created a market position analysis
  • Conducted an external environmental scan in preparation of your final report and presentation

In this assignment, you will generate a preliminary strategy audit in preparation for your final course project.

Prepare a report that includes the following:

  • In preparation for your course project, prepare the preliminary strategy audit using the tools and framework you have focused on so far including the following:
    • Analysis of the company value proposition, market position, and competitive advantage
    • External environmental scan/five forces analysis
  • Identify the most important (5–7) strategic issues facing the organization or business unit.
    • You may modify the strategic issues in your final report based on the additional analysis you will conduct in the next module as well as the feedback you receive on this paper from your instructor.
    • Keep in mind that it is important to look at the strategic issue(s) from more than just one perspective in the business unit or company—speak to or research the issue from more than one angle to offer a 360-degree approach that does not cause more problems or issues.
    • Strategic issues arise from a mismatch between internal capabilities and external trends such that important opportunities are not being pursued or significant external threats are not being addressed under the current strategy.
  • Include a preliminary set of recommended tactics for improving your company’s strategic alignment and operating performance.
    • You may modify these recommendations in your final report based on the additional analysis you will conduct in the next module as well as the feedback you receive on this paper from your instructor.
    • Keep in mind that recommendations can include, but are not limited to, tactics in marketing, branding, alliances, mergers and acquisitions, integration, product development, diversification or divestiture, and globalization. If you recommend your company to go global, you must include a supply chain analysis and an analysis of your firm’s global capabilities.

Write your report as though you are a consultant to your company and are addressing the executive officers of this company.

Write a 7–10-page report in Word format. Make sure your writing is clear, concise, and in an organized manner; demonstrates ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and displays accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Use the following format for your report:

  • Cover page
  • Executive summary/abstract
  • Table of contents
  • Introduction to company (each subsection should be an assessment)
    • Value proposition
    • Market position
    • Competitive advantage
  • External environmental scan/five forces analysis
    • Current environment
    • Assessment of external factors applying five forces
  • Strategic issues (label each issue and provide a header and the reason for why it is an issue)
  • Summary/key findings and recommendations
  • References

Evaluate costing systems for this company. Explain if this company should be using a job-order or process-costing system to accumulate costs .

Assignment 2: Required Assignment 1—Cost and Decision-Making Analysis

Cheryl Montoya picked up the phone and called her boss, Wes Chan, Vice President of Marketing at Piedmont Fasteners Corporation.

Cheryl: “Wes, I’m not sure how to go about answering the questions that came up at the meeting with the President yesterday.”

Wes: “What’s the problem?”.

Cheryl: “The president wanted to know the break-even point for each of the company’s products, but I am having trouble figuring them out.”

Wes: “I’m sure you can handle it, Cheryl. And, by the way, I need your analysis on my desk tomorrow morning at 8:00 sharp in time for the follow-up meeting at 9:00.”

Piedmont Fasteners Corporation makes three different clothing fasteners at its manufacturing facility in North Carolina. Data concerning these products appear below:

Velcro Metal Nylon
Normal annual sales volume 100,000 units 200,000 units 400,000 units
Unit selling price $1.65 $1.50 $0.85
Variable cost per unit $1.25 $0.70 $0.25

Total fixed expenses are $400,000 per year.

All three products are sold in highly competitive markets, so the company is unable to raise its prices without losing unacceptably large numbers of customers.

The company has a very effective lean production system, so there is no beginning or ending work in process or finished-goods inventories.

Using the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research break-even point and costing systems. Analyze the case based on your research and what you have learned so far in the course.

Respond to the following:

  • Calculate the company’s overall break-even point in total sales dollars. Explain your methodology (approximately 2 pages).
  • Of the total fixed costs of $400,000: $20,000 could be avoided if the Velcro product were dropped, $80,000 if the Metal product were dropped, and $60,000 if the Nylon product were dropped. The remaining fixed costs of $240,000 consist of common fixed costs such as administrative salaries and rent on the factory building that could be avoided only by going out of business entirely (approximately 2 pages):
    • Calculate the break-even point in units for each product. Explain your methodology.
    • Determine the overall profit of the company if the company sells exactly the break-even quantity of each product. Present your results.
  • Evaluate costing systems for this company. Explain if this company should be using a job-order or process-costing system to accumulate costs (1 page).
