Intro to PPT

You have been asked to create a PowerPoint presentation designed to help new students identify the many new and exciting options for student success and COMP program focus at AIU. For example, the Virtual Campus has important features to enhance a student’s learning experience. This includes student resources, instant messaging, Live Chat, intellipath, e-mail, and announcements.

You will create a PowerPoint presentation that provides new students with a visual walk-through of the many AIU success and technology options. Not only should you describe them; you should explain when and why you might use each one of these items in the virtual classroom environment. Indicate to your schoolmates the advantages of each resource and provide a recommendation for how often you might check or use each of these features. Be sure to use the Notes feature in PowerPoint to provide your general presentation script for each slide.

At a minimum, the following sections should be addressed for this project:

  • Gradebook
  • Announcements
  • Instant messaging and e-mails
  • Live Chat
  • intellipath
  • Learning materials
  • M.U.S.E.

Your PowerPoint presentation should contain the minimum slides listed below and include your presentation script (what you plan to say about he information shown on the slide) for each slide in theNotes section:

  • Slide 1 is the cover slide with just your name and class, including section number.
  • Slides 2–3 cover Gradebook
  • Slides 4–5 cover Announcements
  • Slides 6–7 cover Instant Messaging and e-mails
  • Slides 8–9 cover Live Chat
  • Slides 10–11 cover intellipath adaptive learning
  • Slide 12–13 cover Learning Materials

Case study—Paid Time Off (PTO) Policies

PTO policies have become good tools for HR staff to use in terms of organizational incentives. Use the Argosy University online library and your textbooks to read about PTO policies. Now, let us go back to Company A and Company B fromModule 1.

While reviewing the information from the two merged companies, the HR Director has found out that each company has two different PTO policies.

Company A has a PTO system in which employees are given 30 days of paid time off each year, which accumulates at the rate of 2.5 days a month. Under this policy, vacation and sick leave are all rolled into one paid leave and any absence whether scheduled, such as vacation, or unscheduled, such as sick leave, are taken from the accumulated leave the employee has earned.

Company B has a more traditional leave system in which employees are given 12 days of vacation, 10 days of sick leave and 10 holidays. The company is closed on those holidays. Vacation is accumulated at a day per month. Sick leave has an unlimited accumulation, but unlike vacation would not be paid out upon termination of employment.

Since the employees of the merged company will be working side by side, the HR Director has asked you to review the situation and make recommendations for a solution.

Instructions:

As an HR Director prepare a report addressing the following issues:

  • Identify any additional information you would need to recommend a solution, and explain where you would likely find that information.
  • Discuss any issues you would likely encounter if you were to merge the PTO system to a traditional leave system. Explain which issues would be difficult to solve and why.
  • Explain any problems you see with leaving the two systems in place, and identify which system would be assigned for new employees.
  • Make a recommendation for one common PTO system. Explain your system and why you think this system is the best system for the company.

Include two to three scholarly references in your response.

Write a five-to-seven-page memo to the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Decision Analysis with Decision Tree Design

The owner of a clothing store must decide how many men’s shirts to order for the new season. For a particular type of shirt, she must order in quantities of 100 shirts. If she orders 100 shirts, her cost is $10 per shirt; if she orders 200 shirts, her cost is $9 per shirt; and if she orders 300 or more shirts, her cost is $8.50 per shirt. Her selling price for the shirt is $12, but any shirts that remain unsold at the end of the season are sold at her famous “half price, end-of-season sale.” For the sake of simplicity, she is willing to assume that the demand for this type of shirt will be 100, 150, 200, or 250 shirts. Of course, she cannot sell more shirts than she stocks. She is also willing to assume that she will suffer no loss of goodwill among her customers if she under stocks and the customers cannot buy all the shirts they want. Furthermore, she must place her order today for the entire season; she cannot wait to see how the demand is running for this type of shirt.

  • a. Construct the payoff table to help the owner decide how many shirts to order.
  • b. Set up the opportunity loss table.
  • c. Draw the decision tree.

Dissertation Committee

Your dissertation committee has two primary responsibilities. One is to ensure that your dissertation meets academic and scholarly standards as defined by Walden University and the academic field. The other is to mentor you throughout the dissertation process. Those who serve on your dissertation committee can provide valuable insight into how to structure and perform your dissertation research. Thus, it is important to consider carefully those whom you will ask to assist you.

To prepare for this Assignment, peruse the Faculty Expertise Directory. Directions for access to this database are listed in this week’s Learning Resources. Based on your projected research topic, select three or four individuals who might be appropriate to serve as your dissertation committee Chair or as committee members.

The Assignment (3-4 pages):

  • Provide a list of three to four faculty members whom you could ask to serve as your dissertation committee Chair or as potential committee members. List them according to your preference.
  • Explain why you selected each individual and the role (i.e., dissertation Chair or dissertation committee member) you think each could play on your committee.
  • Compose a draft e-mail that you would send to faculty who could serve as your dissertation committee Chair. The e-mail should include an introduction of yourself, a description of your topic, and a summary (4–5 sentences) of what you have found thus far in the literature.

Case Study Analysis and Discussion:Is it possible to have too much information about the customer?

Introduction: Two weeks ago, Leo took a trip to Atlantic City. While at the casino playing the slot machines, one of the customer service representatives approached Leo and asked if he would be interested in getting a players card enabling him to earn points. Leo’s first reaction was, “do I have to pay a fee?” The representative said he would not and told Leo all that was needed was his name and address. As Leo was completing the players card application form, he noticed that it asked for his driver license number. At that moment, Leo stated he was no longer interested since a driver license number was something he was not comfortable sharing.

With heightened awareness of identity theft today, many customers or clients are becoming increasingly reluctant to share any information they deem unnecessary. As a business, where does the company draw the line when acquiring new customers? What is the tipping point? Is it better to not collect some types of information customers don’t feel comfortable sharing? So finally, is it possible to require too much information from your customers? Or is it possible to have too much information about your customer? What are the liabilities of storing and securing this information? Who gains access to it? What are your legal obligations?

Assignment: Prepare a response to the following discussion question after reviewing Real World Case 1 in O’Brien, Hilton Hotels Corporations: From Security Perspective And Ensuring That Business Needs Are Met. Is it possible to have too much information about the customer?

Cite examples from your own reading and research to support your position. Format your response according to APA guidelines.

What did the collective effort accomplish that an individual could not?

For every historical figure known for making significant, if not revolutionary, shifts in society, there were many people working in support of addressing the same social issue. It is a disservice to the person and his or her peer activists to ignore the many individual contributions that result in and depend on social change. Having a good understanding of the history of social movements is essential to creating social change today. For this assignment, you explore an example of social change from history and consider the individual and collective roles involved.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Read Loeb’s reflection on Rosa Parks (2010, p. 1) in the Learning Resources for an example of individual versus collective efforts to promote social change.
  • Use the Walden Library to research and locate an article on one of the following social movements: African American civil rights, Chicano movement, American Indian or ”Red Power” movement, women’s rights, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) rights, or disability rights.
  • As you review selected resources, look for both direct and indirect references to the human resources required to transform this issue into a movement.

The Assignment:

Write a 2-page analysis responding to the following questions:

  • What did the collective effort accomplish that an individual could not?
  • In what ways does group involvement cause these movements to be sustainable or have long-lasting impact?

Include one reference from your selected resources on a social movement and two references from this week’s Learning Resources using proper APA citation.

Victimology

  • Conduct an Internet search for the following cases:
    • Thurman v. City of Torrington
    • Castle Rock v. Gonzales
  • Carefully read through the case to gain an understanding about the rights and the roles of the victims in your selected case, as well as what type of policy and procedures need to be in place for law enforcement officials.
  • Address the following in 1,000–1,250 words:
    • Devise a law enforcement department policy that would stipulate procedures for how police officials should address and support the needs of a crime victim involving a domestic violence situation.
    • Include the following sections in your policy:
      • Information on victims’ rights
      • Resources for crime victims
      • What immediate help should be provided if the victim is exhibiting signs of post-traumatic stress disorder
      • How the provisions provided should be documented (police reports, incident reports, memorandums, special form(s), restraining orders, etc.)
  • Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.

Careers in psychology

his course provided you an overview of the discipline of psychology, including expectations for the psychology major, career options for students completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and career options for students who pursue a graduate degree.

Review from the readings the information on career paths for psychologists and counselors and do some of your own research using credible sources. Drawing upon the information you collected and analyzed in previous assignments and research, write a paper that outlines the career path that you think is most suitable for you at this point in your educational experience.

Be as specific as possible and include each of the following items in your paper:

  • Identify a career path and explain why it is a suitable choice.
  • Identify the skills, experiences, and educational requirements for this path.
  • Identify your strengths and weaknesses and explain how they relate to your chosen path.
  • Describe skills and experiences you have already gained and the preparation you have already made.
  • Describe skills, preparation, and experiences you still lack (e.g., research experience, volunteer work, and development of a professional network).
  • Outline a clear plan (including a time line) for meeting these goals and gaining these skills and experiences. Do outside research to discuss specifically where you can gain these skills and experiences, how much it will cost, and how you plan to prioritize.
  • Select and describe at least one professional organization that would be appropriate for you to join in your chosen career path and why it is the most appropriate. Identify the specific resources and standards it would provide you as a professional.
  • Design a plan for how you will ensure ongoing personal and professional development throughout your career. Include in the plan strategies established by research studies that foster a balance between physical and mental health. Identify options for seeking continued professional education in your area of interest or specialization upon graduation (e.g., conferences and online continuing education programs for professionals). Be specific and cite at least two sources for your personal and professional development plan.

Display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Cite at least one academic source for each of the bulleted items in the list above. Be sure to demonstrate ethical scholarship in the accurate representation and attribution of sources.
