Students will create and offer two MS Power point presentation summarizing the main points of one of the readings for this course along with a one page handout for the students in the class. The aim of the presentations and the handouts is to provide the audience with the main ideas of the article and study notes. The handout should list the name of the author, the title of the article, the title of the journal, and the publication date and page numbers along with a summary of its main points. Please do not exceed one page for this material.

Write a paper about an event in a period of U.S. history up to Reconstruction. This paper must be written from the perspective of a specific historical figure from an under-represented population. Use this assignment as an opportunity to create an account from your subject’s perspective, to tell a history that people might not have seen interpreted the way you interpret it. Represent the person’s era and experience in context of what was happening around them, prioritizing their experience rather than the dominant experience. Possible perspectives include that of Anne Hutchinson, Pocahontas, or Sojourner Truth.

This paper must include a discussion of the following topics:

• A thorough summary of the event, including the incidents that took place and the key individuals involved
• The importance of the event in the larger scope of U.S. history
• How the event changed the daily life of the person from whose perspective you are writing
• A prediction for how the event will make a long-term impact in the lives of those in the under-represented group from which the perspective is being written (keep in mind that this perspective should be written from the time at which the event took place).

Please adhere to the following requirements for the paper:

• Adhere to APA Referencing

• Consist of at least four full pages but no more than six pages
• Use at least five sources, including a scholarly journal article
• Have an introduction and strong thesis
• Make use of historical evidence and examples supporting your thesis
• Finish with a forceful conclusion reiterating your main idea.

Research Paper Guidelines:  MUST BE AT LEAST 1500 WORDS.  When preparing and writing the research papers, students must be attentive to the following basic requirements. There is a Research Paper Guideline Document in Doc Sharing. It is imperative that students read and follow these guidelines to ensure a good grade. Included in Doc Sharing is a Research Paper Self-Assessment Checklist to assist students in evaluating the quality of the paper before submitting it for grading. When preparing and writing the research papers, students must be attentive to the following basic requirements. It is imperative that students read and follow these guidelines to ensure a good grade.

1) A research paper involves both the gathering of information and developing a student’s own interpretation of that information. The student must stay focused on his or her chosen topic and rely upon his or her sources for information about that topic. While a student’s own opinions about a topic are an important part of any research process, the student must be able to support his or her conclusions by direct reference to sources.

2) The writing must be clear, logical, and as free of spelling and grammatical errors as possible. A student should never submit a paper without rereading and proofing it. It may even be necessary to get someone to assist in this process by having him or her read the paper and check for mistakes. The student should not fail to run spell-check on his or her writing.

Please remember that easily correctable spelling and grammatical mistakes left uncorrected will result in significant loss of points.

3) This paper requires MLA formatting that includes:

a. 12-point font

b. double-spaced sentences

c. title and personal identification

d. a separate works cited page properly formatted

e. specific bibliographical form for print and electronic sources in your works cited

f. a specific form for parenthetical (in-text) citations of the sources listed in your works cited

The student will be graded on how well his or her style conforms to the above basic requirements in MLA.

4) The works cited must include no less than four sources. Those sources must be relevant to the topic and meet minimum academic qualifications. The acceptable types of sources include the following:

a. class text

b. print or electronic book

c. electronic, peer-reviewed journal article

d. website with a .edu address

5) Certain sources do not qualify for works cited. You will be penalized if you use them. These are:

a. Wikipedia

b. standard dictionary or encyclopedia (Web or paper)

c. any website not .edu

6) For every source listed in the works cited, a student must have at least one corresponding parenthetical (in-text) reference. This will demonstrate how a student has used the source.

The student should remember that any source not accompanied by at least one parenthetical reference (and any parenthetical reference not associated with a source in your works cited) will not count towards the minimum number of required sources.

Using the Internet, identify and choose a disease that affects an aging person’s memory or cognitive ability.

Based on your research and understanding, create a 4- to 5-page Microsoft Word document that includes the following:

• A general overview of the disease
• The signs and symptoms of this disease
• Who are the people affected by the disease
• A holistic look at how it affects the senior citizen
• Statistics on prevalence of the disease
• Current technology being used to treat this disease
• Provide examples of the role that technology is playing in the diagnosis, treatment, or cure of this disease
• Explain how the future of the disease will be affected by the available technology

Choose one period, culture or designer from areas covered by chapters 1 through 13. Within the body of work from your chosen period, culture or designer, choose ONE artifact representing an example of graphic design from that period. The artifact does not have to be from Megg’s textbook. It can be an object like a stele, wall carving/painting, scroll, handwritten or printed book, example of visual language or typeface, print, or poster.

For this assignment, we will focus on the various tools and techniques available to the security professional in order to prepare a security vulnerability assessment.

Use reputable sources to support your argument.  Reputable resources are those that come from peer-reviewed journals,  Do Not use Wikipedia and other such online references that can either be changed without peer review, or does not have a system of peer review to begin with.  You may use newspaper articles to point toward, or give an example of the issue(s) but they do not count toward the minimum number or sources.
