Business Communication.

Select a fairly inexpensive product that you currently own, and a country that you’re not very familiar with. The product could be a moderately priced watch, radio, or other device. Now imagine that you are with the international sales department of the company that manufactures and sells the item and that you are proposing to make it available in the country you have selected.

The first step is to learn as much as possible about the country where you plan to market the product. Check almanacs, encyclopedias, the Internet, and library databases for the most recent information, paying particular attention to descriptions of the social life of the inhabitants, their economic conditions, and cultural traditions that would encourage or discourage use of the product.

Your 1-2 page report is to be submitted to the chief operating officer of the company, whose name you can either make up or find in a corporate directory. Make sure to include the following:

(1)Briefly describe the product you plan to market abroad.

(2)Briefly describe the country you have selected.

(3)Indicate the type(s) of people in this country who would find the product attractive. Provide at least one (1) supporting fact.

(4)Explain how the product would be transported into the country (or possibly manufactured there if materials and labor are available). Provide at least one (1) supporting fact that justifies your choice.

(5)Recommend a location for a regional sales center. Provide at least one (1) supporting fact that supports your location choice.

(6)Describe how the product will do in this new environment, with at least two (2) supporting facts.

(7)Describe at least two (2) recommendations for marketing (steps the company should take immediately and those it should develop later).

⦁    For the population of females between the ages of 3 and 74 who participated in the National Health Interview Survey, the hemoglobin level is approximately normally distributed with mean 13.3g/100ml and standard deviation 1.12g/100ml.
⦁    If a sample of size 15 is selected from this population, what is the probability that the mean hemoglobin level of the sample is between 13.0g/100ml and 13.6g/100ml?
⦁    If a sample of size 30 is selected from this population, what is the probability that the mean hemoglobin level of the sample is between 13.0g/100ml and 13.6g/100ml?
⦁    Suppose that college faculty with the rank of professor at two-year institutions earn an average of $64,571 per year with a standard deviation of $4,000. In an attempt to verify this salary level, a random sample of 60 professors was selected from a personnel database for all two-year institutions in the United States and the average salary  was calculated.
⦁    Describe the sampling distribution of the sample mean
⦁    Within what limits would you expect the sample average to lie, with probability 0.95?
⦁    Calculate the probability that the sample mean  is greater than $66,000?
⦁    If your random sample actually produced a sample mean of $66,000, would you consider this unusual? What conclusion might you draw?

Information Literacy.

Knowing how to thoroughly research a topic is extremely important while achieving your education. You may be asked to support your information with peer-reviewed scholarly resources, but how can you find this type of resource? The Ashford University Library allows you to search through different avenues to find the requested types of resources. You can narrow your search by the author, year published, title, subject, and also by indicating what type of resource you are looking for. You even have access to a librarian if you need some guidance in finding more resources on your topic.

This week, you will take the Standardized Assessment of Information Literacy Skills (SAILS) Exam. This exam is not graded, and your results are anonymous. The exam will exit from your screen immediately after completion, and you will not receive feedback or results. This is a nationally-normalized, standardized exam for students in universities all over the United States. The results of this assessment will guide Ashford University in developing the best possible library resources and research methodologies training. Results will be published (in aggregate) on Ashford’s assessment website. Your participation is voluntary, so thank you for your participation.

After completing the SAILS Exam, in a two- to three-paragraph response:

  • Describe your experiences using resources, including concerns encountered when conducting academic research through the Ashford University Library. Areas of concern may include developing a research strategy, using the search function within a database, or evaluating sources.
  • Explain how using the Ashford University Library has improved your experience in conducting research.

Identify at least 2 pieces of legislation specifically dealing with discrimination in promotion and hiring.

You work for a large technology firm. Recently the human resources department has provided notice that a vacancy has opened up for the District manager position. The notice lists the education and experience qualifications and the duties of the position. The notice further provides the means for applying for the position and that the position will be filled internally rather than looking for an external candidate. Further, the notice provides the deadline as to when candidates who want to be considered should provide the required information.

When looking to fill positions, whether a promotion or new hire, employers must make sure that they properly list the qualifications and requirements of the job so that the candidate can provide to the employer how they are qualified for the position.

This allows the employer to avoid any issue of possible discrimination or improper actions in the hiring and promoting procedure.

In framing your response, review leading legislation that employers must adhere to when dealing with promotions and hiring:

  1. Identify at least 2 pieces of legislation specifically dealing with discrimination in promotion and hiring
  2. Provide at least one advantage and one disadvantage of each piece of legislation

Human resource:selection methods.

Create a table of your own using the program of your choice—MS Word, MS Excel, etc.—to define each selection method. Explain the nature of the method and its importance. Then list all the advantages and disadvantages for each selection method.

In a separate short essay (2-3 pages), recommend the most appropriate selection method or combination of selection methods for this case study, explaining your rationale. Present at least three scholarly sources to support your rationale using APA format.
