Identify and analyze the main issues and discuss them in the context of relevant developmental theory, as well as societal influences.

In today’s global world, how do the children of the U.S. fare? Are they prepared to compete in the international arena? The Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) is a nonprofit child advocacy organization that provides a voice for children who cannot speak for themselves. The State of America’s Children 2014 is the CDF’s report highlighting some crucial issues affecting our children today. Visit the CDF Web site and read the report:

Children’s Defense Fund (CDF). (2014). State of America’s children 2014. Retrieved from http://www.childrensdefense.org/library/state-of-americas-children/

Select a topic of interest to you from the report’s table of contents (after pulling up the website, you can scroll down to select a topic). Write a research paper on the topic. Be sure to include the following:

  • Present the CDF findings on the topic in a table or graph that you create. Note how different populations are affected. For example, you might compare your state to national statistics or compare the top or bottom states on the topic you chose, compare racial/ethnic group data, etc.
  • Research the selected topics using at least one additional resource. The data and research publication sections at the CDF Web site offer useful publications.
  • Identify and analyze the main issues and discuss them in the context of relevant developmental theory, as well as societal influences. Why is this data and the information you researched important to understand in the context of child development?
  • Present your conclusions and support them with research information. What recommendations would you offer to address this issue for future generations?

Write a 4-5 page research paper in Word format. Be sure to include introductory and concluding paragraphs in your paper, and a title page, an abstract, and a reference page. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Explain the process to formulate your policy, including the involvement of stakeholders and the role of special interest groups in this stage.

Policies are constantly being reviewed and considered to help improve the federal, state, or local health care systems. Each one has the potential to affect each of us on a daily basis, so careful consideration must be given when policies are proposed. It is important to understand the process of how a topic eventually becomes a policy.

Choose a health care topic for which a policy might be formed.

*Note: be sure to look ahead and choose a policy topic that will be suitable for the second part of this assignment as well, due in Week Four.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper on the complete process of how your chosen topic becomes a policy. In your paper, include the following information:

  • State the objective of the policy.
  • Define Formulation stage (explain the process to formulate your policy, including the involvement of stakeholders and the role of special interest groups in this stage)
  • Define Legislative stage (include an explanation of how the legislative body debates policies and approves policies; the role of committees, the role of the executive branch as relevant to your policy’s legislative process, and the way that stakeholder voices are heard in this stage)
  • Define Implementation stage (identify the accountable parties–agencies, state or federal departments, etc.– and their roles in the various implementation of your policy)

Cite a minimum of five references.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Explain how the purpose of the functional area supports organizational goals.

Functional Areas of a Business

In previous scenarios involving RPZ Marketing, you reviewed the background of the business, the beginning of the major changes triggered by its acquisition of another marketing company, and particular issues that have arisen in the three functional areas of Operations, Marketing, and Human Resources. In Unit 7, you will encounter the additional area of Finance and Accounting, and in Unit 9, Information Technology (IT).

For this 4-page paper, select three areas to address, including two of the three already addressed in this course, and one of the two yet to be discussed. For each area that you select, address these three questions:

  1. What is the primary purpose of this functional area?
  2. How does this functional area support the achievement of organizational goals in any business?
  3. What is your assessment of the extent to which this functional area is successfully supporting RPZ’s organizational goals?

For the functional area not yet addressed, simply explain what your chosen area (finance or IT) would need to do to effectively support RPZ’s organizational goals.

Organize your paper according to the following outline:

Introduction

First functional area (Name of function):

  • Explain the primary purpose.
  • Explain how the purpose of the functional area supports organizational goals.
  • Assess the extent to which this function at RPZ Marketing is effectively supporting organization goals.

Second functional area (Name of function):

  • Explain the primary purpose.
  • Explain how the purpose of the functional area supports organizational goals.
  • Assess the extent to which this function at RPZ Marketing is effectively supporting organizational goals.

Third functional area (Name of function):

  • Explain what this functional area of RPZ would need to do to effectively support organizational goals.

Conclusion

  • Provide your assessment of areas in which RPZ needs to focus the greatest additional attention and resources, based on your understanding of the company’s current situation.

Describe the main features of the biome found in your geographic area.

In this assignment, you will create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that exhibits the different organisms in your current biome.

Include the following in your presentation:

Describe Your Own Environment

Consider the natural environment or biome found in the geographic area where you currently live. For example, if you live in the Midwest, the natural biome for this area is the grassland. If you live in Alaska you are likely to live in either the tundra or the boreal forest. Describe the main features of the biome found in your geographic area. Include features such as the environment (moisture, temperature) and any topographic features that would influence the climate (mountains, large bodies of water, etc.).
Identify Ten Organisms

Make a list identifying at least ten organisms—at least five plants and five animals—that live in your biome, and describe how these organisms interact with one another. For example, is the relationship competitive or symbiotic?
Describe Each Organism and its Environmental Needs

In the speaker notes section in your presentation, briefly describe these ten organisms and the type of conditions—that is, moisture, warm temperatures, or a type of plant—they need in order to survive. Be sure to include the interactions between these organisms and the resources they need to survive. You may wish to use various tools available in Microsoft PowerPoint to visually depict these relationships.
Hypothesis of a New Environment

Consider a situation where the temperature of the climate was to increase by an average of ten degrees Celsius. Address the following:
How would these organisms survive if the temperature warmed up this much?
Would they stay or move to a more suitable environment?
Would a new species move in?
How would migratory species be impacted?
What would happen to your biome?

Now, consider if your biome changes with the temperature shift. Address the following:
What types of plants and animals do you think would live there?
What will happen to the rarer species? Will they cease to exist?
Identify five plants and five animals that you feel would inhabit this warmer area.
Describe this new ecosystem and the new interactions that will most likely exist.
Additional Topics to Include

How would environmental management practices change in your area?
Would this drastic shift in temperature impact culture and society in your area?
Would you still choose to live in this area after a drastic shift in temperature? Give reasons to support your answer.

Analyze the human rights issues presented by PharmaCARE’s treatment of the Colberia’s indigenous population versus that of its executives.

PharmaCARE (We CARE about YOUR health®) is one of the world’s most successful pharmaceutical companies, enjoying a reputation as a caring, ethical and well-run company that produces high-quality products that save millions of lives and enhance the quality of life for millions of others (Note: PharmaCARE is a hypothetical company that you will to compare to a real company as noted in the assignment criteria below). The company offers free and discounted drugs to low-income consumers, has a foundation that sponsors healthcare educational programs and scholarships, and its CEO serves on the PhRMA board. PharmaCARE recently launched a new initiative, We CARE about YOUR world®, pledging its commitment to the environment through recycling, packaging changes and other green initiatives, despite the fact that the company’s lobbying efforts and PAC have successfully defeated environmental laws and regulations, including extension of the Superfund tax, which was created by Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).

Based in New Jersey, PharmaCARE maintains a large manufacturing facility in the African nation of Colberia, where the company has found several “healers” eager to freely share information about indigenous cures and an abundance of Colberians willing to work for $1.00 a day, harvesting plants by walking five (5) miles into and out of the jungle carrying baskets that, when full, weigh up to fifty (50) pounds. Due to the low standard of living in Colberia, much of the population lives in primitive huts with no electricity or running water. PharmaCARE’s executives, however, live in a luxury compound, complete with a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a golf course. PharmaCARE’s extensive activities in Colberia have destroyed habitat and endangered native species.

In preparation for this assignment, use the Internet or Strayer Library to research companies that have recently experienced negative consequences as a result of the company’s corporate activities. Compare the facts and consequences surrounding the companies you have researched to PharmaCare to support your response(s) to the criteria below.

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

Describe the key characteristics of a stakeholder and determine all the stakeholders within the PharmaCARE scenario.
Analyze the human rights issues presented by PharmaCARE’s treatment of the Colberia’s indigenous population versus that of its executives. Recommend at least three (3) changes PharmaCARE can make to be more ethical going forward.
Assess PharmaCARE’s environmental initiative against the backdrop of its anti-environmental lobbying efforts and Colberian activities. Support the position.
Decide whether or not PharmaCARE’s actions with respect to the indigenous people of Colberia would be ethical in accordance with each of the following ethical theories:

Utilitarianism
Deontology
Virtue ethics
Ethics of care
Your own moral / ethical compass
Compare PharmaCARE’s actions with those of at least one (1) real-world company, whose corporate activities led to ethical, environmental, or workplace safety issues and financial loss. Analyze the similarities and differences between PharmaCARE and the company that you chose.
Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia is not an acceptable reference and proprietary Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

SERVQUAL, identify at least two items to measure in each dimension.

Construct EACH of the following in a single document. Each tool should mirror a process in your workplace (it does not have to be the same process for all these tools).

  • Fishbone diagram (at least four potential causes)
  • House of quality (at least three customer requirements)
  • Needs analysis (at least four needs)
  • FMEA (identify at least four potential failures)
