Create an 8- to 12-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation, including detailed speaker notes, in which you discuss your personal brand and future story. Include the following in the presentation:

Directions: For this assignment, you will read and analyze an essay from your textbook and respond to a series of questions. Please choose between the following two essays:

“The Great Debate: Should We Censor the Internet?” by Caspar Hewett (pp. 604-611)

Summarize the author’s essay and the author’s main argument.
What support does the author provide to defend his/her argument?
In your opinion, does the author present a strong argument? Please explain why or why not.

As with any writing assignment, you must provide strong responses to each question. One sentence does not constitute a strong response. Also, you should supply examples from the essay to help support your responses.

 

Overview

Throughout this course, you will be working on developing several components of the procedures manual and supporting documents, such as a brochure, a proposal to a potential project sponsor to develop the procedures manual, and PowerPoint training. Additional information and the deliverables for each Individual Project will be provided in the assignment description for this project.

In this first Individual Project, you are asked to develop the outline of the sections that will be included in the procedures manual as well as a draft of a proposal to submit to both your instructor and a potential project sponsor. The other information you will include is a high-level description of the business process or set of procedures and the intended audience for the manual.

You will also be setting up the foundation of the procedures manual documentation outline that you will add to each week.

Project Selection

The first step will be to select a process or set of procedures for which a manual does not exist today. You will then outline the sections of the manual. This project will be used as the basis for each of the assignments throughout the course and should conform to the following guidelines:

• Nontrivial: The selected business process or set of procedures should reflect a real-life application.
• Domain knowledge: Students will be applying knowledge of this process or set of procedures to determine the contents of the manual.

Select a process or set of procedures that fit these requirements, and submit your proposal to your instructor before proceeding further with the assignments in the course. Keep in mind that this is a draft of a proposal that you could later send to a project sponsor. Approval should be sought within the first few days of the course. Your instructor will tell you how to submit this proposal and what notification will be given for project approval.

Assignment

Your first task in this process will be to select a process or set of procedures to use as the basis of your procedures manual. As you proceed through each project phase, you will add content to each section of the final document to gradually complete the final project deliverable.

The project deliverables are as follows:

• Procedures manual document shell (in MS Word format)

Essay should reflect upon each of the themes in the chapters in Coynes’ book.  Your essay should include reflections on your growing understandings of Evolution.  Your essay should be a record of your personal journey through the discovery of the concepts used to describe the theory of evolution.  Here you can include your reflections on philosophical, theological, and sociological points that reflect your views on evolution.  Additionally, you should critique and evaluate the ideas presented in the book in a way that demonstrates a scientific understanding of  evolution. Also, watch the NOVA video (found on YouTube) “Judgment Day: Intelligent Design On Trial (creationism vs evolution)” and relate it to your views on evolution or relate it to what the book says in regards to evolution.

Clearly identifying the independent and dependent variables in a study is a critical aspect of any research project. The dissertation is no different. This assignment will allow you to practice your skills in identifying research variables.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

• In a study investigating the effects of humor on memory, Schmidt (1994) showed participants a list of sentences, half of which were humorous and half were non-humorous. Schmidt found that participants consistently recalled more of the humorous sentences than the non-humorous sentences, demonstrating that the use of humor increased participants’ recall of sentences.
• Instructors will be using a grading rubric to grade the assignments. It is recommended that learners review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment in order to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment.

1. Define the term independent variable and identify the independent variable for this study.
2. Describe the scale of measurement used for the independent variable.
3. Define the term dependent variable and identify the dependent variable for this study.
