national archives experience

Assignment Instructions
For this assignment, you need to visit the National Archives Experience. Historians typically use two types of materials, secondary source, and primary source documents. Secondary sources are typically books and articles written on a particular historical event, well after the fact. Primary source documents are usually generated by first-hand participants. Good historians rely heavily on original materials created at the time of the event. For this reason, historians spend a good deal of time at the archives. There are many types of archives, but by far, the largest in the United States, is the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

The National Archives contains more than 10 billion documents, and they have collected over 1,200 of those in the National Archives Experience. After you have opened the above link, click on “continue” in the bottom right corner. This will take you to the Experience site. Here, you can select a topic, and collect documents relevant to that aspect of history. The system will then allow you to create posters, or even a video.

There are a number of ways that you can complete this assignment. Once you have collected your documents, you need to use them as evidence for writing a 3-5 page essay. Naturally, you will need some other information, and you can gather that through the internet, or other books and articles. It is best to avoid using textbooks.

If you are writing a paper, it must be double-spaced (Times New Roman, font size 12), and include a cover page with your name, course number and course title, instructor’s name, and date.

HRM and the Affordable Care Act

In 2010, the US Congress passed and President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Since its passage, the act has withstood challenges to its constitutionality, and the majority of the law remains intact. The law requires \”large employers\” to offer \”affordable\” and \”adequate\” insurance coverage to their \”full-time employees\” as defined by the act, or, under the \”play-or-pay\” provisions, to pay a penalty.

Tasks:

In a minimum of 200 words, post to the Discussion Area your responses to the following:

Has the ACA affected large employers and full-time, part-time, and temporary employees more positively or negatively? Why?
What are the potential pitfalls for organizations trying to comply with the law?
Is it good or bad that the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor play a role in the enforcement of this law? Why?
Considering how the law affects healthcare organizations as employers and as healthcare providers, what is the best way for HRM in healthcare organizations to address the issues arising from the law?
Provide reasons and evidence in support of your responses.

STS

There are three segments to this Discussion question.
1.First, find and review literature which considers the issues of organizational or project \”planned change.\” If you find a particularly relevant piece of literature, please share it with the class. The \”Organization Development\” literature is a good place to start your search.
2.The task is to highlight and discuss the key elements which must go into an IT \”change plan\” for it to have the best chance for success…regardless of what is being changed.
3.Also, please discuss the relative benefits and/or hazards of simply ordering change from on high.

In some way, these initiatives were put in place as changes to the status quo. In organizations, there are a number of ways to drive change. You can simply order it done. You can also provide education as to the necessity of change. As well, IT managers can work with employees to help them accept change as their own. In addition, the IT manager can work behind the scenes to politically \”grease\” change processes and outcomes.

Importantly, change whether infrastructure, people, or projects seems to occur best when the change process is well thought out and carefully planned for. In this light, please consider what you learned about STS ( Socio-Technical Systems) in Module 1.

Phase 1 Discussion Board

Deborah, the CEO of your company, wants to determine if a global strategy is a good fit for the organization. In addition, Deborah has heard of project management in other organizations. She would like project management to be integrated into your organization, beginning with a project to develop a marketing plan.

Deborah has designated you as the project manager for this project. A project charter has been created and signed by Deborah, who will function as the project sponsor.

As the project manager, you will work with your team to develop a marketing plan for your organization. Although you do not have experience in managing projects, Deborah has sent you to a 1-day project management overview course through the local Project Management Institute chapter. You will attend other courses over the duration of this project and integrate project management concepts as you learn them.

You begin your research in deciding if and what the global strategy should be. You get your team together and begin to discuss a plan on how you will research this possibility.

You start the meeting by saying \”Let’s brainstorm and start to get a plan together for a possible globalization strategy. Tiffany, I’d like you work with me to begin researching possible locations.\”

Tiffany says, \”I think we need to research some locations, but I think there is more to it than that. There still needs to be a decision on the type of strategy or approach we are taking. Would we use a multidomestic approach, a global approach, or a transnational approach? I’m still not entirely convinced a global strategy is the answer.\”

“Great point, Tiffany. It is obvious to me as well that we need to explore a strategy that will put us in a better position to handle the economic downturn. We have to provide the board with the facts. They seem to be leaning in the direction of a global strategy, but I\’m not sure it\’s the right move either. That\’s why we need to do research.”

Discuss the following:

How do you define a global strategy?
Are there other international strategies, and how do they differ?
Identify a minimum of 3 possible countries and location options for globalization. Research each of these locations in the furniture industry, and document both the pros and cons of using these in global strategy.
What country would you choose? What evidence can you provide in support of your choice?
What evidence might somebody else, who does not agree with you, provide to support his or her choice?
What could you tell somebody else to show he or she is wrong?
