Describe the relevant external factors and influences (at least 3) which could affect the decisions the company makes about its direction, objectives, strategy, and business model.

The goal of conducting a competitor analysis is to gather information about the company’s competitors and systematically formulate a strategy to become the market leader in the industry. In formulating any strategy, it is imperative that the company understand its organizational structure as well as the internal and external forces which could impact their strategic decisions.

Based on the company you chose in the previous module, analyze the organization’s mission, vision, and values, its ability to compete, and the effectiveness of its management team in executing strategy. Some of the factors to be considered in doing this evaluation include the company’s internal resource capabilities, its relative cost position, and its competitive strength. In addition, evaluate the competitive strategy of your selected organization and examine how this strategic approach drives the rest of the strategic actions the company undertakes in terms of product line, production emphasis, marketing emphasis, and the means for sustaining the strategy. Make sure to include at least one analytical tool such as SWOT analysis, Porter’s, BCG, etc. in your analysis.

Research your selected organization’s strategy and analyze the following elements:

  • The organization’s mission, vision, and values. What does it tell you about the company, their culture, their direction? Does it convey the purpose and primary objectives of the company? If so, how, if not what is missing?
  • The organization’s strategic goals. Based on your research, what are the top three strategic goals of your chosen company?
  • The relative alignment of strategic goals with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Include at least three examples of how the strategic goals help and/or hinder the organization in achieving its mission, vision, and values.
  • Additions or changes you would recommend to the strategic goals to better achieve the company’s mission, vision, and values. Include at least two additions or changes and justify your response.
  • Describe the relevant external factors and influences (at least 3) which could affect the decisions the company makes about its direction, objectives, strategy, and business model.
  • Describe the Internal factors and influences (at least 3) which could impact the company’s decision making such as the company’s market position and its competencies, capabilities, resource strengths and weaknesses, and competitiveness.
  • Does your selected organization have a focused strategy that differentiates it from other companies in the same marketplace? Explain your answer.
  • Is the organization seeking a competitive advantage by taking the initiative in the marketplace? Explain your answer.
  • Does the organization have a strategy for competing in international markets? Does it appear to have a solid understanding of local customer needs and preferences to create customized products or services? Does it appear to know how to transfer company expertise to initiate actions to compete internationally?

ASSIGNMENT 1

Current Epidemiological Studies: Critical Review

For your dropbox assignment, using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research and select three current epidemiological studies regarding risk factors that are associated with any health problem. You can also use the following websites to search for studies as they are often used as the major sources of information for health research and often report on the most current health problems affecting the United States and global populations:

U.S. National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
World Health Organization

Based on your research, create a report in a 3- to 4-page Microsoft Word document addressing the following questions:

What were the criteria that you used to select these papers? (For example, only English language, peer reviewed articles, only a specific age group, only United States studies, etc.)
What were the types of risk factors studied in your chosen articles? (For example, environmental, socio-economic, behavioral, etc.)
Which study design was used for this study? Why do you think the researchers chose this specific study design? Provide examples from your research.
What are the proximate or underlying determinants of risk factors that are associated with any health problem for each study?

Answer the questions posted below in the Template for Assessment of Causality for Reviewing Epidemiological Studies, for each study. You should number each study, list the title, and state each question in the format it appears in the template.

Click here to download the template.

Support your responses with examples.

Cite any sources in APA format.

ASSIGNMENT 2

Implementation of the Intervention

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research and read about various approaches to interventions and various settings in which these interventions can occur. You can also visit your local or state health department’s websites and look for journal articles that address the approaches to interventions.

Based on your research, express your views on the following:

Identify and describe a health issue or disease and recommend an intervention. You may utilize the health issue from week one or choose another issue. In your description, include social determinants or causes and data that demonstrates why this is a health issue.
Is the intervention level (primary, secondary, and tertiary) and settings chosen justified? Why or why not?
What are the issues surrounding implementation of the intervention and its potential success?
What are the roles of government (Federal, State, and Local) and nongovernmental agencies in the development of the recommended prevention and/or intervention program?

Determine two (2) specific international government-affiliated or nonprofit organizations with the ability to assist victims of your selected disaster or crisis.

You are concerned about the growing number of international man-made and natural disasters. You are looking for information as to what you can do to assist the victims of these disasters monetarily and operationally, and to help rebuild infrastructure in the affected areas.

Use the Internet to research ongoing disasters and crises which you predict will continue to cause international challenges over the next ten (10) years.

Create an eight to ten (8-10) slide POWERPOINT PRESENTATION in which you:

  1. Select one (1) current man-made or natural disaster or crisis with international effects or implications. Analyze at least three (3) reasons why the disaster / crisis in question may cause continuing international challenges.
  2. Determine two (2) specific international government-affiliated or nonprofit organizations with the ability to assist victims of your selected disaster or crisis. Explain the nature of the role of each of these organizations in providing aid to the victims who were affected by your selected disaster or crisis.
  3. Speculate on two (2) obstacles that could thwart your identified organizations’ abilities to respond successfully to the selected disaster or crisis. Provide a rationale for your response.
  4. Suggest one (1) way in which one (1) of your selected organizations could utilize a public-private partnership to assist in emergency preparedness and planning if the selected disaster or crisis were to occur again in the future. Provide a rationale for your response.
