Using the South University online library, the Internet, and the data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), research comparative international work and compare the United States and Canada with respect to which country is more effective in the areas of (1) economic growth; (2) expenditure (public and private expenditure on health); (3) information and communications technology; and (4) health.

Your report should address the following questions:

• After going through the statistics:
  • What information or statistic you find either surprising or reasonable?
  • Do you anticipate the statistics will be similar in ten years? Why or why not?
• The current structure of healthcare coverage in the United States has a combination of employer-based coverage and public program (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid) coverage, with a large uninsured population. If a single-payer system is implemented where Medicare is expanded to cover all citizens for those who prefer private insurance, there will be comparable coverage under the same range of private insurance plans already available. Keeping in mind these considerations, answer the following questions:
  • What do you think about allowing some people to purchase additional insurance, thereby creating a two-tier health system based on affordability?
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of this initiative?
• Considering the fact that healthcare is not a guaranteed right for everyone in the United States, there are different kinds of barriers and obstacles in obtaining healthcare. In contrast to this fact, the notions of equity and fairness are considered very important. Criteria to follow in writing the paper (these criteria will be use for the evaluation of the paper)

 

The introduction is one of the most important parts of a paper. You want it to be clear, concise and effective. There are three things you absolutely need to mention in your introductory paragraph: the topic of your essay, a brief summary of the views you are going to talk about in your essay, and  a brief explanation of the original thesis you are going to defend. In the introduction the thesis subject should be clearly and easily identifiable.

 

In the discussion of the topic you should accurately describe the views relevant to the topic you choose. If you place two or more views into critical opposition you should not just give an exposition of each view but also make an explicit comparison between them and show and discuss the reasons of the similarities and differences between those views.

 

You should show some original thought in your paper. This might come in the form of introducing an entirely new argument, but it might come in the form of raising an original objection to an argument found in the reading or that we discussed in class. Always justify you claims.

 

 

As it is really important to have a clear introduction, it is crucial to have a clear conclusion. You should make sure that your conclusion actually follows from your premises and that is an understandable conclusion that can be derived from an intelligible inferential process.

Develop the strategic objectives for your new division of the existing business in a balanced scorecard format in the context of key trends, assumptions, and risks.The strategic objectives are measures of attaining your vision and mission.     Develop at least three strategic objectives for each of the four balanced scorecard areas identified (Financial, Customer, Process, Learning and Growth).     Base your solutions on a ranking of alternative solutions that includes an identification of potential risks and mitigation plans, and a stakeholder analysis that includes mitigation and contingency strategies. (For example, a strategic objective in the shareholder or Financial Perspective is to increase market share. The target for the metric of “Increase market share” could be “Increase market share by 2% for each of the next 3 years” of an increase of 2% per year for 3 years.)

  The Balanced Scorecard 

  The Balanced Scorecard continues to grow in popularity as a tool for supporting the implementation of strategy. “The Hackett Group found that of the nearly 2000 global companies it surveyed had implemented, or planned to implement, the Balanced Scorecard. The real issue though isn’t how many companies are using this approach but, rather, whether they are using it properly” (Norton and Russell, 2005, p. 3).

  To design the Balanced Scorecard for your small business you need to have first crafted your vision, mission, values, and strategic objectives. The Balanced Scorecard is the set of measures you created to measure the achievement of the vision and strategic objectives as you serve your mission.

  The Balanced Scorecard is often seen in two different formats. The first format (which is the one you will use for this week) is a table that includes the measures in the four primary categories of the Scorecard:

  1.     Financial (representing the increase in shareholder value). 2.     Customer (representing the increase in customer value). 3.     Operations or process (representing the increase in the value of internal processes. 4.     Learning and Growth (representing the increase in employee and organization value).   In this format there is always a measure which is defined (e.g., “profit margin”), and then there is a metric that is identified to assess the measure (e.g., “percentage of profit margin” or “percentage increase in profit margin”). Finally, there is a target set for the metric (e.g., “a 20% profit margin” or “an increase of 5% in profit margin”). The Balanced Scorecard shows the targets for the metrics for each calendar year during the plan. For example, the year one profit margin may be 18%, year two could be 20%, year three at 22%, year 4 at 26%, and year 6 at 30%. A sample Balanced Scorecard is shown below.

   

Read and reflect on the case study about Trader Joe’s on page 26 of the textbook. Consider Joe Coulombe’s approach to organizational design, and analyze the effects and applications of the various organizational structures and levels of authority. Given the benefits and motivations mentioned in the case study, share an analysis of Trader Joe’s impact on employee motivation, morale, and organizational culture.

Your paper should be at least two pages in length, not including the title page or reference page. You are required to use at least your textbook as source material for your response. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations.

Water Quality Report Imagine that you are in charge of water quality for a local branch of your state’s Department of Environmental Protection. It is an agricultural region with several large industrial farms and concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). There have been several algal blooms in local lakes that have affected tourism and resulted in dead zones in the lakes. Your boss has asked you to write a report that describes the situation, analyzes three solutions, and uses one of those solutions in an overall management plan for the region. Your report should address the following:  Describe the environmental conditions and chemical processes that are leading to the dead zones.  Include a two-paragraph summary of three different methods of controlling the agricultural runoff in the area. During the 1980s, the general populace of these countries deteriorated, even though several Latin American countries developed strategies to reposition medical personnel and services to rural areas. Throughout this time, many international donors provided assistance; however they did so with imposed conditions. An example of this constrained assistance was the World Bank, which imposed restrictions that included privatization of health care, as well as required limitations on universal access.

 

Did the World Bank and other international donors act responsibly and ethically in constraining their humanitarian assistance? Who has the responsibility for the health care of the Latin American people? Is it a reasonable and socially responsible practice to offer international assistance in exchange for an opportunity to shape a country’s political and/or social system? Why or why not?
