Describe two examples of vulnerabilities in automobiles for which auto manufacturers have instituted controls.

  • Distinguish among vulnerability, threat, and control.
  • Describe two examples of vulnerabilities in automobiles for which auto manufacturers have instituted controls. Tell why you think these controls are effective, somewhat effective, or ineffective.

  • Preserving confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data is a restatement of the concern over interruption, interception, modification, and fabrication. How do the first three concepts relate to the last four? That is, is any of the four equivalent to one or more of the three? Is one of the three encompassed by one or more of the four?
  • Reports of computer security failures appear frequently in the daily news. Cite a reported failure that exemplifies one (or more) of the principles listed in this chapter: easiest penetration, adequate protection, effectiveness, weakest link.

  • Describe an example in which absolute denial of service to a user (that is, the user gets no response from the computer) is a serious problem to that user. Describe another example where 10 percent denial of service to a user (that is, the user’s computation progresses, but at a rate 10 percent slower than normal) is a serious problem to that user. Could access by unauthorized people to a computing system result in a 10 percent denial of service to the legitimate users? How?

Assess how an organization can create a fair, market-competitive compensation system that provides greater rewards for those who earn it, yet is viewed as fair and equitable by the organization.

Discussion 1

A basic premise of a market-based economy is that each individual has the opportunity – through education, experience, hard, work, etc. – to improve his or her job earning potential. As a result, some employees may enjoy greater earnings than their colleagues. Assess how an organization can create a fair, market-competitive compensation system that provides greater rewards for those who earn it, yet is viewed as fair and equitable by the organization.

Discussion 2

The job description is often referred to as the building block of human resources. Nearly every employment action – recruitment, compensation, discipline, etc. – is predicated on an effective job description.

Today, there is considerable debate whether job descriptions should be broader and more generic, versus narrow and more specific. Distinguish between the advantages and disadvantages of each approach, and which you see as the more preferable approach.

Analyze the elasticity of demand for products within the selected industry relevant to Katrina’s Candies.

Estimating Demand and Its Elasticities” Please respond to the following:

  • From the scenario for Katrina’s Candies, examine the procedure Herb will use to estimate the demand model developed in the scenario for Week 1. Analyze the elasticity of demand for products within the selected industry relevant to Katrina’s Candies. Determine the factors involved in making decisions about pricing these products that you believe to be the most influential.

Discuss the advice that you would give them as to the potential State and Federal constitutional challenges to these provisions and the likely outcomes of such challenges.

Bob lives in the State of Idaho.   Mary lives in the State of Maryland.  Bob was on a trip and having fun with his son, Bob Jr. and his wife Gail. The Bobs were driving in the State of Nevada, when they came upon Mary driving her car.   Mary appeared to be having trouble driving her car  .   There was an accident and all parties were injured. Bob wants to sue Mary for damages.  Where can suit be brought and why?    Cite your authority from the text with page numbers.   Does Mary have any control over where suit can be filed.   Just prior to trial, the witness officer, was killed in the line of duty so the Bobs lost the suit.  The officer was to be a witness for Bobs.  The suit was in the media, and after the Bobs appealed the case, a witness, Maybe Ann, came forward and stated that Mary was texting at the time the accident occurred.  Should Maybe’s testimony be heard and allowed?    Two months after the trial it was determined that the accident had caused injury to Mary’s brain which will cause Mary to loose her sight.    Mary wishes to file suit against Bob.   Where can she file suit?  Are there any reasons why she can or cannot file suit?

Is it reasonable for appellate courts to not hear new evidence in an appeal?  Should new available evidence be grounds for appeal?  In many cases additional evidence is available by the time of the appeal.  If this is the case, wouldn’t justice be best served by allowing the appellate court to consider it?  And even if there is no new evidence available, should the appellate court be able to reconsider the trial evidence and impose a different verdict from that of the jury?

If new evidence could support an appeal, no case would ever be final.  The parties would always have to worry that the other side might find new evidence.  The appellate court cannot hear new evidence because there are no juries at the appellate court level, and the evidence would likely involve factual matters.  Lastly, if the appellate court could replace jury verdicts with its own fact finding, it would be usurping the role of the jury.   Would it be different if the trial was by a Judge.  Does Mary have a right to a trial by jury?

State what your views are on the purpose of the appellate courts.    Where do courts get their power?  Do the states have the same court structure and rules?   Is there a right to an appeal?  Is this a constitutional right?

Separate your answers under the heading that applies.   Issue Rule Application Conclusion

Learning Activity #2

Assume you are the attorney for the  County School Board and the State Highway administration. Discuss the advice that you would give them as to the potential State and Federal constitutional challenges to these provisions and the likely outcomes of such challenges.  Discuss all possible legal concepts and how and why they should be applied to the facts.  Remember to cite the text with page numbers and any other legal resources.  Is there anything wrong with the statute?  If so what part and why?

Describe your approach in managing this project through both a Scrum-based approach and a plan-based software engineering approach.

You are the lead software engineer at a large educational institution consisting of twenty three (23) campuses located across the Midwestern United States. Your team has been asked to spearhead an effort to implement a new software program that will serve as a centralized student information center for all of your online students. This system is being designed to reduce the cost of managing students’ information and to automate the processes associated with this information. The total online enrollment currently stands at 10,000 students. As the project manager you will need to decide whether to utilize the Scrum approach to project management or a more conventional, plan-based approach.

Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:

  1. Describe your approach in managing this project through both a Scrum-based approach and a plan-based software engineering approach.
  2. Identify how to address the most challenging aspects of this software development project under both approaches and describe how to address such challenges to ensure a successful outcome.
  3. Develop a visual rendering of each approach using Microsoft Visio or its open source alternative, Dia. Note:The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
  4. Evaluate the effectiveness of a Scrum approach compared to a plan-based approach based on the following factors:
  5. Planning the allocation of people to projects
  6. Estimating the cost of projects
  7. Maintaining team cohesion
  8. Managing changes in project team membership

Explain the 2 dimensions of conceptualizing these disorders.

The number of children through adolescence with SED (severe and impairing emotional disorders and/or behavioral problems) is signficant.

1. Explain the 2 dimensions of conceptualizing these disorders.

2. Using additional resources (2 minimum, but not Wikipedia or WebMD), support or refute the premise that the numbers of children with SEDs is signficant.

3. Provide an analysis of the potential causes and treatments for the observed numbers of children or adolescents with SEDs. You may include holistic perspectives if supportive documentation is provided. Remember that you must provide a thorough analysis of causes and treatments for several externalizing and internalizing disorders.
