Assignment 1: Judge vs. Jury

The Centervale Police Department (CPD) decided to assign Anne Doil and Justin to work together as partners because Anne has worked well as a mentor to Justin. Justin continues to learn from Anne’s experience and expertise in the field and at the office.

This week, Anne and Justin are attending the court proceedings of a case in which they arrested the defendant. The case is currently set for a jury trial. The prosecutor has substantial evidence against the defendant because Justin and Anne did a great job documenting the case. The prosecutor would like Justin to testify regarding the evidence he collected and the statements the defendant made during the arrest. It is Justin’s first court appearance and he is nervous. Justin confides in Anne that he remembers the theory behind what he has learned and the roles of the players, but is unable to decide whether the judge or the jury is more important in a trial.

In February 2015, Walmart announced that it is increasing wages to just over $10 an hour for all employees. This wage is now substantially higher than the federal minimum wage but still below the $15 an hour rate recommended by many labor activist groups. 1-With regards to risk-response planning, there are four (4) responses to negative risks that an organization may pursue: avoid, transfer, mitigate, and accept. Develop an original and unique scenario to describe and contrast each of these responses.

2-From the selected e-Activity article, describe in detail the way in which the malware was utilized to steal data or gain privileged remote access to a computer or network. 1-From the e-Activity, choose the two (2) performance counters you consider most important to monitor regularly, and predict two (2) critical issues that can occur for each if they aren’t. Provide support for each of your predictions.

2-Differentiate between the conditions that would be appropriate for implementing agent monitoring and the conditions under which agentless monitoring would be a better choice. Provide at least two (2) specific examples that illustrate the major differences between the two (2).

“BitLocker Encryption and the Encrypted Hard Drive Feature” 

1-To offset the drawbacks commonly found in BitLocker encryption, Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 include an Encrypted Hard Drive (EHD) feature to enhance BitLocker’s functionality.  Choose the EHD benefit you believe provides the biggest improvement over basic BitLocker encryption and management. Provide justification for your response.

2-Give your opinion of whether or not there is any possible downside, other than greater cost, to using the EHD feature to enhance BitLocker functionality. Justify whether the enhancement can be worth the extra cost, regardless of any possible downsides you may have noted. Support your opinion with at least one (1) specific example that demonstrates EHD’s worth or lack thereof.

Capacity management in businesses is a function of their operations and environment. In today’s business world, evaluating and managing capacities is becoming significantly more difficult. Therefore, managers need to do a balancing act to reduce costs and effectively utilize available capacities.

Using the online library resources and the Internet, research capacity management.

  • Which type of operation has a more difficult time managing capacities: an environment supporting standardized products or one supporting customized products? Why? State your reason(s) and provide examples.
