1.) Explain what total cost of ownership means to you. Illustrate in practical terms how decisions made in the planning and execution of a project can impact the cost of maintaining the product.

 

Software or computerized tools such as Microsoft Project, Excel, and other simulation or statistical tools are often used to assist with cost estimating. These computerized tools simplify and automate the use of different cost estimate techniques and also facilitate faster calculation.

 

2.) List and differentiate common estimating techniques. Analyze each one to determine how to select and use one that is most appropriate for your project. Discuss the available computerized tools that will help you in the application of the different estimating techniques.

David Ricardo was the first economist to elaborate the theory of comparative advantage in his book On the Principles of Political Economy and Taxation. Ricardo wrote:

Under a system of perfectly free commerce, each country naturally devotes its capital and labour to such employments as are most beneficial to each. This pursuit of individual advantage is admirably connected with the universal good of the whole . . . It is this principle, which determines that wine shall be made in France and Portugal, that corn shall be grown in America and Poland, and that hardware and other goods shall be manufactured in England. (1817, p. 188)

Think about the 10-year historical period you chose for your final project. Identify trade policies of the time and discuss the following points:

• What are the main goods and services the United States traded internationally?
• What trade barriers were in place during that decade?

World View Chart Assignments

 

A world view is a fundamental or basic orientation of thinking – like a mindset – which guides a culture and / or a person’s life. Like a point of view, it can be built of concepts, ideas, values, emotions, and ethics. Weltanschauung is the German word for this idea. Your goal for this course is to understand the world views of these various religions. In order to prepare you for your final assignment, you will outline the world views of various religions in the chart below, adding to it each week.

For this assignment, students will complete the weekly area of the chart, filling in the aspects of each religion as it is presented in the readings and resources. This chart, when complete, will be the starting point for the written assignment, due in Week 10.

For each weekly submission:

Review the weekly lectures and supplemental materials provided, then complete the chart by elaborating on each section related to the weekly content.
Identify key details and examples from the weekly resources to serve as a basis for the content being recorded in your chart.
Write clearly and coherently using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and mechanics.

Select the public health program that is working toward reducing a health disease such as diabetes, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, or asthma. Based on your selection, respond to the questions below.

 

Write a brief introduction to address the program by including an informative and historical overview explaining the need for the program, the theoretical background on which the program is designed, the services offered (in brief), and the significance of the program.

Describe the health disease and include data on current incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates and projections for the next five years. Address interventions and treatment options to change the status quo of this epidemic. Present the data in a tabular or graphical form.

•   Compare and contrast how this disease is affecting different racial and ethnic groups. On the basis of your calculations, what information can you conclude?

 

• Identify the resources needed to treat this disease, including facilities, equipment, pharmaceuticals, research, funding, and healthcare professionals.

 

•         Using the projections, estimate the resources needed to treat these diseases over the next five years. Explain the estimates.

Assignment 2: Discussion Question

The finance department of a large corporation has evaluated a possible capital project using the NPV method, the Payback Method, and the IRR method.  The analysts are puzzled, since the NPV indicated rejection, but the IRR and Payback methods both indicated acceptance. Explain why this conflicting situation might occur and what conclusions the analyst should accept, indicating the shortcomings and the advantages of each method.  Assuming the data is correct, which method will most likely provide the most accurate decisions and why?

Jacob, a 13-year-old male, is caught shoplifting a hoodie at a local department store. Security detained Jacob and called the police. Jacob was then interviewed at the local police station. His parents were called and attended his interview with the detective.

The detective asks Jacob, “Why did you take the garment? Didn’t you think you would be caught? What did you think your parents would say? Why did you do such a stupid thing?”

• What do you think is wrong in this scenario?
• What do you think Jacob is feeling?
• What do you think Jacob’s nonverbal behavior would exhibit?
• If you were the detective, how would your questions differ? Give an example of three questions you would have presented Jacob.

Research conducted by Bradberry and Greaves (2003) shows that emotional intelligence skills are more important to job performance than any other leadership skill. By increasing your own self-awareness and observing your own behavior, you will find areas where you can improve your communication abilities.  Choose a leader whom you know well and evaluate his or her emotional intelligence competency from the perspective of emotional intelligence theory.  In what ways is this leader emotionally intelligent?  What is his or her greatest need for improvement in emotional intelligence?

REAL LIFE APPLICATION: Of the four competencies of emotional intelligence (becoming self-aware, self-management, social awareness, relationship management), which do you find the most challenging in your leadership? What are two specific goals that you will set in order to increase your emotional intelligence competency?  A critical component of growth as a leader is to develop a peer network through professional organizations, such as the American Management Association, that are related to your degree field.  Include in your goals the most relevant professional organization within your degree field and whether you will become a member.  Also include in your goals whether you will utilize a mentor or coach to help you grow as a leader.
