Part I – Analysis of the External Environment

As part of the Strategic Business Plan, you have been asked to:

• Identify and analyze the major driving forces for change in the external environment of the motorcycle industry.
• Analyze the dynamics of competition using Porter’s Five Forces Model of Competition. Correctly assess the dynamics of competition.
• Provide at least three statistics about the size of the motorcycle industry such as revenue, growth rate, number of units sold by manufacturer/country, etc.
• Summarize the strategic issues firms in this industry face and identify their biggest threats.

This section should be titled “The Analysis of H-D’s External Environment.”

Part II – Internal Environment Analysis

Financial

Gather the financial information necessary to do a complete ratio analysis and the Balance Score Card (BSC) key metrics information.

If you were going to create a BSC, what would be the key metrics you would measure in each of the four BSC areas:

• Financial
• Customer
• Internal Business Process
• Learning and Growth

Perform a ratio analysis using H-D’s five-year financial performance. Interpret the meaning of the ratios and financial performance.

This section should be titled “The Analysis of H-D’s Current Strategy: Two Views.” Be sure to include the ratio analysis. You may also include other graphics to support your narrative.

Competitors

Based on your analysis, you must decide which two competitors present the biggest competitive threat to H-D.

Perform a financial ratio analysis for the competitors after looking at trends in financial performance over five years, and compare the trends to industry averages.

Be sure you have a clear ranking of the industries’ competitors.

This section should be titled “Competitor Analysis.” Be sure to include the financial ratio analysis. You may also include other graphics to support your narrative.

Answer the following questions in the space provided below:

Explain the importance of variation to health-care organizations and answer the following questions.

1. What might be the key processes for health-care organizations?
2. What are the potential common causes of variation that would have an impact on the key processes of health-care organizations?
3. What special causes might be more important than the others?
4. How might health-care organizations’ business environment be dynamic and change over time?

 

You have just been hired as a training coordinator for a large security organization that was previously using an outside organization to develop the majority of its training. Although management has realized the advantages of the organization having its own in-house training program, they are also of the opinion that the lower level security supervisors and officers might not be as accepting of this new training coordinator. They have asked you to prepare a presentation to the security supervisors explaining this new initiative, with the understanding that the security supervisors will then relate this information back to the officers who work directly for them.

 

You have decided there are several key areas that you want to review with the supervisors. Respond to the questions below, explaining how you will develop a response in your training program for the security supervisors. Keep in mind that your paper should be 500 words in length, not counting the cover sheet, abstract, and reference section, and that the paper should meet all APA standards and requirements.

Analyze the health status of a specific minority group.

In an essay of 750-1,000 words, compare and contrast the health status of the minority group you have selected to the national average. Consider the cultural, socioeconomic, and sociopolitical barriers to health. How do race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and education influence health for the minority group you have selected? Address the following in your essay:

1. What is the current health status of this minority group?
2. How is health promotion defined by the group?
3. What health disparities exist for this group?

Describe at least one approach using the three levels of health promotion prevention (primary, secondary, and tertiary) that is likely to be the most effective given the unique needs of the minority group you have selected. Provide an explanation of why it might be the most effective choice. Cite a minimum of three references in the paper.

Examine a topic of lifespan development connecting research and life. Below is a list of options from which you are to select a topic for the Week Three assignment. Make sure that the topic you select for this assignment is different from the topic you selected for the Week Two assignment and the topic you plan to utilize for your Final Paper (including its outline).

Once you have chosen your topic, examine the various theories of human development learned in the course and choose one or two that best assist you to understand the issues involved in your topic.

For this assignment address the following:

• Examine various theories of human development, describing relevant terminology, and addressing how the theory assists in the understanding of issues involved in the selected topic.
• Identify and describe at least two domains of human development (physical, biological emotional, cognitive, and/or social) and how they are impacted by the chosen topic.
• Identify and describe the stages of development that are affected by the chosen topic.
• Describe the cultural and historical perspectives of the chosen topic, demonstrating an understanding of how the topic has been perceived over time and by other cultures. Provide relevant examples.

Writing the Assignment

The Assignment:

1. Must be two to three double-spaced pages in length (excluding title and reference pages), and formatted according to APA style.
2. Must include a title page with the following:

3. Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
   1. Begin with an introduction to the selected topic in which you define all concepts that will be discussed in the paper.
   2. For example, if you select “How do memory and intelligence change as we age?” as your topic, you will need to define the terms memory, intelligence and aging.
4. Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
5. Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
   1. Conclude with an answer to the selected question. Did the evidence you surveyed answer the question satisfactorily? Include your analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the available evidence.
   2. If possible, suggest the course that future research should take if answers to the selected question are less than conclusive.
   3. Must use at least two scholarly sources.
   4. It is important that you ask yourself if the articles specifically address the selected topic. It is not always easy to find the right articles. Thus, give yourself some time to search before you finalize your selection.
   5. You may reference your textbook and other required materials from the course; however, these will not fulfill the resource requirements.
6. Must briefly summarize each article including the purpose of the investigation, its methodology, and results.
   1. If possible, select peer-reviewed articles that summarize the evidence available in a given field of study (e.g., meta-analysis combines the findings of different studies to uncover trends, commonalities and differences).
   2. Order the articles in the way you think you will discuss them in your paper. Then develop a summary of the scientific evidence that answers the question you selected.

Part 1. Library Research Assignment

A painting company has determined that for the company to expand globally over the next several years, its executives must be aware of any political and economic concerns that may arise during the expansion.

Use the library, course materials, and other Web resources to write a report (3–4 pages) for the senior management team. Your report will inform their strategic decisions about the company’s expansion.

Please address the following:

• Describe at least 2 political and 2 economic issues that may arise during global expansion, and propose methods of addressing them. (Choose issues that are distinct from those that are purely domestic).
• Explain the importance of and implications of each issue with regard to the company’s proposed expansion to France.
• Find an example and explain in general terms how another company has handled one of the international expansion issues you raised (does not have to relate to France).

Part 2 Slides

As your organization considers international expansion, one important decision it faces is how to modify its organization structure to accommodate internationalization. You have been asked to research different organization models used by other multinational corporations (MNCs) and prepare a short presentation based on your findings.

Your presentation should include the following:

• A list and brief description of at least 4 different organization structures used by MNCs
• A more detailed explanation and comparison of 2 of the structures
• Effective use of at least 1 table, chart, or other visual representation of information
• Description of a real world example of an MNC that uses one of the models you researched
  • How does this organization coordinate and transfer useful knowledge across borders?
  • Why does the organization structure chosen make sense for this particular firm and/or industry?

Your report must include a reference list. All research should be cited in the body of the presentation. (Note: the 5–6 slides with in-depth speaker notes length requirement excludes the title page and reference list pages).
