Explain and describe what parts of the interaction employed effective listening and speaking in the negotiation.

Assignment 2: The Importance of Listening and Responding in Effective Negotiation

The purpose of this assignment is to highlight the importance of listening and responding in negotiations and to identify ways to improve listening and speaking in various negotiation situations.

Consider a situation you observed or participated in where a negotiation occurred. This can be a situation at home as child negotiating a later bed time or a situation at work such as a co-worker negotiating for additional time off. An example of a negotiation is provided in the Webilography and is entitled: Classic Sesame Street: Ernie and Bert Can’t Communicate. Determine the kind of listening skills used in the interaction of your chosen negotiation.

Prepare a 3-5 page paper which addresses the following:

Respond to the following:

  • Describe the negotiation you observed or participated in.
  • Explain and describe what parts of the interaction employed effective listening and speaking in the negotiation.
  • Explain and describe what parts of the interaction employed ineffective listening and speaking in the negotiation.
  • Suggest and explain at least two alternative strategies which could have been used to improve communication within this negotiation.

Make sure you clearly articulate your chosen negotiation and thoroughly explain each section in your paper. Apply current APA standards for writing style to your work and cite at least 2 references (one of which may be your text book) in your paper.

What is journalism’s ethical responsibility to society?Discuss.

Write a 1,400- to 1,750-word paper that contrasts ethically responsible and irresponsible news reporting.

Answer the following questions:

  • What is journalism’s ethical responsibility to society?
  • When, if ever, is deception permissible in journalism?
  • What ethical obligations do reporters have to their sources?
  • Under what conditions is a journalist ethically obligated to maintain privacy?

Illustrate your response to each question with at least two examples: one example of ethically responsible reporting, and another example of ethically irresponsible reporting.

  • Consider using contrasting examples of coverage of the same issue to highlight differences between journalistic practices that are ethically responsible and irresponsible. You may use case studies from any of the assigned chapters of Media Ethics, or you may conduct external research using popular news sources, issues, and coverage.
  • Remember that this assignment asks you to compare different approaches to news reporting; sources that simply provide opinion or commentary should not be used as examples.

Seasoned nurse educators possess wisdom about teaching (a kind of “with-it-ness”), which they have developed through practical experience over the years. As a person new to nursing education, you have a great deal to learn from a seasoned mentor. In order to gain access to that knowledge, you will conduct an interview with an experienced nurse educator either in a hospital or college setting. Your interview may be conducted face-to-face, online, or by telephone.

For this assignment, you are to:

  • Generate a list of questions you will ask during the interview such as teaching strategies, theories, technology, and evaluation techniques.
  • Conduct the interview.
  • Your  discussion post should include:
    • The setting.
    • How the interview was conducted.
    • The questions asked and the responses given.
    • Anything else you think to be important.

Compare and contrast the age-related changes of the older person you interviewed and assessed with those identified in this week’s reading assignment.

Assessing and Planning Care for an Elderly Person (5 pgs)

In order to gain an insight into the world of elder adults, it is important to understand how they view themselves and the values they hold. Additionally it is important to assess and determine his/her needs and establish appropriate interventions for this individual.

Choose an older adult to interview. This cannot be a patient in your clinical setting. You can use a friend, family member, or co-worker. The older adult should be 65 years or older. Use the format provided to record the responses. A list of questions is available for you to start with. Include 2–3 questions of your own to get a complete picture of the older adult. Summarize your findings and also contrast the responses with findings in your readings and other current literature.

Attached patient questionnaire should be used as an example.

After gaining permission, conduct a physical and mental functional assessment of the older adult you have chosen. Review your readings for the process of functional assessment.

Make use of the tools discussed this week to complete a comprehensive assessment of your patient. Search the Internet for resources on these tools.

  1. Tinetti Balance and Gait Evaluation
  2. Katz Index of Activities of Daily Living
  3. Assessment of Home Safety
  4. The Barthel Index

Make sure the older adult is clearly identified on the tools. Do not include their name, but do include professional or other designation, and age. Your name should also be identified on the tool. (This should be a part of your Appendix.)

Compare and contrast the age-related changes of the older person you interviewed and assessed with those identified in this week’s reading assignment. During this data analysis process provide at least 4–6 preliminary issues that you have identified. Identify three alterations in health that you would propose and describe them. Identify a minimum of three comprehensive interventions for each problem.

Make sure that you integrate personal cultural awareness and cultural competency.

Paper should be 5 pgs, not including the questionnaire or tools used. These should be attached as an Appendix. Remember to use headings to identify the different sections in your paper.

Discuss a school ritual where the students seemed to be performing gender.

Please read the article “Becoming Mr. Cougar” and then respond to the questions below.

1) C.J. Pascoe, the ethnographic research in this study, identifies a gap in current research dealing with sexualized adolescent identities. What is the potential gap he identifies and how does his research fill this gap?

2) How does River High participate in “institutionalizing heterosexuality and masculinity,” according to Pascoe? Please include at least 2 different examples of how Pascoe uses observations from the school to demonstrate this.

3) Early in the chapter Pascoe discusses some of his frustrations with starting to conduct his research. He mentions the “twin assumptions” schools tend to make regarding teenagers. What are these “twin assumptions” and why does this frustrate Pascoe?

4) Pascoe discusses an interesting juxtaposition between the “official” and “unofficial” gender/sexuality curriculum at the school. Please provide an example of an official and an unofficial part of this curriculum. Does it seem like River High was open to changing any of the “official” policies? Why or why not?

5) Pascoe describes encountering a “cultural object” in his classroom observation with Ms. Mac. How does Pascoe describe the importance of this cultural object and what seems problematic about the teacher’s reaction to this object?

6) In addition to reinforcing heterosexual identities through teaching, Pascoe suggests the teachers also reinforce these behaviors in a more passive way as well. Discuss one or two ways that teachers reinforce masculinity.

7) Discuss a school ritual where the students seemed to be performing gender. How was this a performance that reinforced traditional ideas of heterosexuality?

8) Pascoe talks quite a bit about gender differences in how male and female students are treated by each other and by the school administration but the rules are very different for black students. How do some of these rules differ and why?

9) What was your impression of this study? Was there anything you really agreed or disagreed in terms of Pascoe’s findings?

Do you think GDP is the best measure of living standard? Why? Why not?Explain.

Finding ways to improve humanity’s living standards is the point of economics. Having a good measure of living standards, you may think, is therefore pretty fundamental to the discipline. For decades economists have turned to gross domestic product (GDP) when they want an estimate of how well off people are. By how much are Americans better off than Indians, or than their parents’ generation? Chances are the answer will start with GDP.

GDP is really a measure of an economy’s output, valued at market prices (to the extent that you have them). As societies produce more, and therefore earn more, their material well-being rises. So it is no surprise that so many economists and official statisticians broadly accept GDP as a measure of living standards.

Do you think GDP is the best measure of living standard? Why? Why not?

Describe what the law and ethics dictate should take place in this area of criminal justice (such as an explanation of charges during an arraignment), and discuss how what you observed did and/or did not conform to these expectations.

Observe Chosen Court

you should have spent a minimum of two hours observing criminal court proceedings that you will use to prepare your Court Report, . For the Court Report, prepare a well-written 2-3 page paper, about your court observation experience. Provide the details of the proceedings of the court you visited (court name, date, judge, type of proceedings) and the name(s) of cases(s) you observed. Describe the proceedings that took place, what you learned, and what (if anything) was surprising to you. In addition, pick one aspect of the court proceeding (such as arraignments, sentencing, role of court personnel, the attorneys’ ethical responsibilities, etc.) that you will study further for your final Portfolio Project.

Formal Outline

submit an outline of your final paper.

List of Sources

Submita list of sources to be used in your final paper.

No points will be assigned for these deliverables at the time of their delivery, but points will be deducted from your final grade on the Portfolio Project if you fail to submit these in the weeks required (see the Portfolio Project Rubric). Additionally, you will be expected to account for the instructor’s feedback on these deliverables as you will be revising them to be used in the final paper.

The Final Paper

In the final paper, synthesize observed data from your court experience with research gleaned from at least five reliable, academic sources on the area of criminal justice you selected earlier in the term (arraignments, jury trials, sentencing, etc.). Compare and contrast what you personally observed in court with one or more normative positions argued or implied in your library research regarding how that particular area of criminal justice should function.

Specifically, your final paper should include:

  • Your revised Court Report
  • An analysis of the area of criminal justice you observed and researched. First, describe the area of criminal justice. Then, analyze the components of that area of criminal justice, including relevant laws and policies, ethical obligations of involved legal professionals, and the ways in which societal variables such as race, class, gender, and level of educational attainment affect proceedings in that area of criminal justice. Use your research to corroborate your discussion.
  • A comparison and contrast between the realities of what you observed and what your library research taught you. Describe what the law and ethics dictate should take place in this area of criminal justice (such as an explanation of charges during an arraignment), and discuss how what you observed did and/or did not conform to these expectations.
  • An evaluation of the conformities and the nonconformities you described in number 2 to arrive at a conclusion about what you observed versus the ideal in our criminal justice system, including suggestions for how the system could improve or, at least, better mirror the considerations of the law and of ethics.

Present your response in an analytical research paper of 15 well-written pages.
