Due Week 4 and worth 200 points

The Project Paper focuses on a suggested topic related to art, architecture, history, music, or literature. The project will reflect your views and interpretation of the topic. This project is designed to help you stretch your mind and your abilities to be the creative, innovative, and critical thinker you already are!

Choose one (1) of the topics from the list of topic choices below. Read the topic carefully. Write a three to four (3-4) page paper (750-1,000 words) that responds to each of the items described in the topic.

 

For the topic you choose:

1. Support your ideas with specific, illustrative examples. If there are questions or points associated with your chosen topic, be sure to answer all of the listed questions and address all of the items in that topic. If your topic asks you to do several things related to the topic, be sure to do each of the things listed.
2. While some of the topics tend to lend themselves toward particular writing genres, you are not restricted to the specific format suggested for the individual topic. For example, you may do an “interview,” a “proposal,” a “letter,” a “short story,” a “blog,” an “essay,” an “article,” or any other written genre for almost any of the topics. The project is intended to be fun as well as informative, so feel free to be creative with the delivery of your information.
3. Use at least three (3) good quality academic sources, with one (1) source being the class text. Note: Wikipedia and other similar Websites do not qualify as academic resources. You are highly encouraged to use the Resource Center tab at the top of your Blackboard page.

Note: Your instructor may require you to submit your topic choice for approval before the end of Week 2.

Topic choices (pick 1):

• Office Art Memo. Memorandum. Your boss, who knows you have been taking a humanities class since he pays for your tuition reimbursement, has tasked you with managing the art budget for your company, expecting you to choose various pieces of art for the new corporate offices.  (Note: Replicas of the works are acceptable since they are more cost-efficient and you are working on a budget.) Include the following:

• New Composition. Speech. Your uncle’s birthday is in two (2) months, and everyone knows that he loves almost all kinds of music. As a birthday gift for him, you want to have a special piece of music composed in his honor which will be played at a family birthday celebration. Write a speech that you will make to the composer’s agent. Include the following:

• Harlem Renaissance Poets. Essay & Poem. Choose two (2) poems by different authors from the Harlem Renaissance. Write an essay that:

• Women’s Roles Then & Now. Script. Script a conversation between two (2) notable women from the 18th and / or 19th century on the roles women should play in society. Within the dialogue, include:

• Other topic choice recommended and approved by the professor and supported by the grading rubric.

 

The Project Paper will be graded on:

• The level to which the instructions were followed.
• The extent to which all four (4) parts in the topic were addressed.
• The adequacy of information, examples, and details which support the general claim or main idea.
• The clarity and relevance of the explanations and descriptions.
• Adherence to standard rules of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.
• The inclusion of three (3) required references (two [2] additional sources besides your textbook) documented using APA style.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

• Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA Style format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions specific to the selected topic. (Note: Students can find APA style materials located in the Additional Resources section of their Student Center within their course shell for reference.)
• Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

• Explain how key social, cultural, and artistic contributions contribute to historical changes.
• Explain the importance of situating a society’s cultural and artistic expressions within a historical context.
• Examine the influences of intellectual, religious, political, and socio-economic forces on social, cultural, and artistic expressions.
• Use technology and information resources to research issues in the study of world cultures.
• Identify major historical developments in world cultures from the Renaissance to the contemporary period.
• Write clearly and concisely about world cultures using proper writing mechanics.

In this first discussion, I would like for you to focus on “What is Professionalism?” Why is professionalism important when you are attending college, while you are working in your chosen profession and even when you are answering questions in a discussion forum for an online class?

Your discussions must be at least 300 words in length. They must answer the initial question appropriately. The answer must be meaningful and clear. Mechanics and grammar will be graded as well. You must also reply to at least two other posts of your classmates with meaningful and substantive responses

Discuss one (1) project where you used a problem-solving approach to address what turned out to be common-cause variation, or where you used a process improvement approach to deal with a special cause.

 

If you do not have a personal experience that echoes either of these situations, you may use Internet to search for a case that reflects either of these situations.

  Answer the following questions in the space provided below:

3. Was the case you described a special-cause or common-cause?
4. Do you feel the solution or approach used appropriate for the cause?
5. What would you do if you could do it again?

Consider the scenario and respond to the following:

• Are the two employees’ requests reasonable accommodations according to law?
• What factors need to be considered in making decisions on the requests?
• Assuming that one of the requests is unreasonable, how would you inform the employee that the requested accommodation cannot be made?

Assignment 1: Compensation Practice

Use the Internet or the Strayer Library to research a publicly traded company for which you would like to work.

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

1) Briefly describe the company you researched, its compensation strategy, best practices they are applying, and compensation-related challenges they are facing.

2) Analyze how your company applies compensation practice to determine the positive or negative impact to the company and its stakeholders.

3) Examine the ways in which laws, labor unions, and market factors impact the company’s compensation practices. Provide specific examples to support your response.

4) Evaluate the effectiveness of traditional bases for pay at the company you researched.

5) Use at least three (3) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

From a security standpoint, how do they relate to the key elements needed to protect personnel and property? How do they correspond and align with a comprehensive security plan?

 

Obtaining trademark protection for your business name, slogan or logo is very important, not only to protect your intellectual property and unique business identity, but also for shear business value.  A trademark is often a key business asset.

Review the general requirements for obtaining a trademark in Oregon by reading page 40 of “How to Start a Business in Oregon,” which can be found at

Then, download a trademark form from the Oregon Secretary of State’s site at:

Next, create something that would qualify for trademark protection (e.g. a logo or slogan).  You do not need to be an artist—just make something up and provide a rough sketch if you are applying to protect artwork associated with your business (stick figures are okay!).

 

Describe how your trademark would be used in commerce.  Otherwise fill out the application completely, using a fictitious company name.  Be sure to include all words, designs and borders that comprise the mark on the form.

 

Submit the work using Moodle or in class—not to the state!  It is due no later than the day of the final.
