THIS IS WHAT THE PROF SAID ( am attaching a sheet with directions for the reading journal. For the first segment, please comment on the documents you think are most interesting in Chapters 16-19 of the Johnson book. You will want to relate these documents to chapters 16-19 in the Roark book. You do not need to write about every chapter–this is an opportunity to focus on a few topics that you think are especially interesting.

You can get 60 points for about four pages of good quality writing. Three and a half pages of excellent, thoughtful writing would be great…that would be much better than four pages of fluff. You can write as much as you like and you can get a few extra points if the journal is especially thoughtful and well focused 🙂 )

Let me know if you have any question

Define “Nature.”

Define “Nature.”
Go to the Oxford Dictionary, as well as etymology dictionaries (online and in the library). [Note: We aren’t looking for “nature” in terms of trees, animals, and weather!]
Analyze the historical roots of the word. What ancient language does it derive from? What did it originally mean?
What does it mean today? Get at least two current definitions from credible, modern dictionaries.
What do you think the word means for most people today? How does this meaning contrast with its original meaning? Why do you think this difference in meaning exists today?
Your answer should be at least one and a half pages, double-spaced. You may write more.
Document your sources, including dictionaries, according to MLA or APA style.

Write a 1 page reflection outlining strategies for adjusting to each item on the list.

THE SECOND PAGE : Pick two items from the left column of the list of “mistakes students make” in the text (see Landis; p.102-103) and write down a commitment regarding how you will implement the required changes mentioned in the right column (1 page).

Islamophobia as a racial issue in USA

Thought Paper

Students will write a critical thought paper on a racial issue in America. The thought paper is conceived of as a tool for the student to use to examine her/his thoughts and reflect on her/his feelings about race relations. The research involved in writing the thought paper will, hopefully, help the student gain a deeper understanding of the contemporary issues and problems of today. Informed citizens make better choices. Moreover, the paper is designed to require students to practice disciplined thinking about her/his personal attitudes and opinions.

chapters 16-17-18-19.

Among the many tropes of fantasy, both Brooks’ “An Unfortunate Influx of Filipians” and Jim Butler’s “Jury Duty” heavily center on magic and mythical creatures.

Among the many tropes of fantasy, both Brooks’ “An Unfortunate Influx of Filipians” and Jim Butler’s “Jury Duty” heavily center on magic and mythical creatures. Selecting one of the two topics, address its use in the stories. While there may be some comparison of the trope’s presence in both works, do not make comparison the primary focus of the paper. Discuss how the works use the trope, and its impact on the story. Analyze how well or not the trope furthers the story through the climax. While you may need to summarize parts of the story, that must be kept to a minimum. Do not write a plot summary of the works as your paper.

Paper requirements:

The paper is a minimum of 4 pages in length. It must be typed Times New Roman 12 point font (smaller fonts are difficult to read; larger fonts tell me your paper is too short), 1” margins around (the default is 1.25”. You should adjust the margins, but if you forget, it will not be a problem). In text and Works Cited page in MLA format. There are handouts on shared files to show how to correctly format; for the Works Cited page, follow the guidelines for a work in a anthology. Remember, the authors are Brooks and Butler respectively; Speakman is the editor. His name should not appear in the body of the paper.

The paper is due at the beginning of class on Wednesday September 21. You must print out and submit a hard copy AND submit the paper electronically to Mt Assignments. Failing to do both means your paper is not properly submitted and will be penalized.
