Identify the participants of the meeting, the objectives of the meeting, the meeting agenda, and the project’s objectives.

You have completed the project planning activities and are now ready to share the results with the project team. You have scheduled a project kick-off meeting in two weeks and are now preparing your materials.

Deliverable Length:  8-12 slides

Using the Library, develop a 10 – 15 slide presentation that you will use for the kick-off meeting. In the presentation, identify the participants of the meeting, the objectives of the meeting, the meeting agenda, and the project’s objectives. Use the remaining slides to share key results from your project planning activities, such as the scope control system and the communication mechanisms that will be used.

In the communication plan, identify the audiences that must be reached. For each audience, describe the communication mechanism, the frequency of communication, the format, other involved parties, and associated responsibilities.

Be sure your presentation meets the standards for an effective presentation that you have learned in other courses.

What are the pros and cons of government agencies (i.e., agencies within the Health and Human Services umbrella)?  Are these agencies effective?

Health Care Consumer: Trends and Marketing
Instructions: I rather hear about your experiences, experiences of others you know, opinions and ideas when answering the following questions. Must write up 100 to 150 word count.
Today many doctors have patient portals.  A patient portal is a location where the consumer can log on and see their medical data.  They can see their lab results, results from prior years, make appointment, request scripts, watch videos, etc.  Do you think most patients are capable of understanding their lab results they see online without a doctor’s interpretation?
Technological advances have made it possible and necessary for health care professionals to communicate in different ways.  It is important to understand not only how to effectively communicate, but also to know to whom you are communicating.  For example, nurses will communicate differently to a physician than they would to a patient.  Also, it is important to proofread text messages and emails more than once prior to sending.  Certainly the forms of communication have changed dramatically in the last decade.  I work with multiple surgeons, and their method of communicating with patients is face to face, with doctors, via web conferencing, and their office staff work on the patient portal.  Today we also have more technological equipment in the OR that is used to communicate to the doctor vitals, perfusion, and a host of other patient data.  We are also seeing a strong trend in global surgeries, where it is being performed by a surgeon in one location, while another in another country is showing how to do the surgery. With so many different ways to communicate, how do we know we are communicating effectively?
What are the pros and cons of government agencies (i.e., agencies within the Health and Human Services umbrella)?  Are these agencies effective?
The FDA actually tests less than 1% of our food for safety.  They usually do not get involved with products unless there are outbreaks of diseases, such as Salmonella.  The little that they do test are usually imported from specific countries known for unsafe foods.  They also do not test food supplements, such as St. Johns Wort, and other popular ones OTC.
What about other agencies such as the CDC or the Office of Aging?
When you communicate, you also need to decide how you will tailor it – will you communicate to the masses or to the individual, or will it be to a select group?  Can anyone give examples?
There are many ways to establish the marketing function for an organization, two of the more common ways are by product and by market.  The product oriented structure is the more common method used in health care marketing.  For this structure the product line manager is responsible for the bulk of the responsibility and accountability.  Many times this person is the nurse.  Now for the market oriented structure a health care organization may design a marketing campaign around its major customer groups, but the focus will be on the customers who have purchasing requirements such as large corporations. Can anyone provide examples of how their organization structures marketing?
Define conformity and give an example. Name three reasons why people conform.
Give examples of disadvantages of advertising.
Social media originated in 2002 and allows us to build social networks with people who share similar interests.  Social media is highly accessible and represents a shift in how people share information.  It’s a fuse of sociology and technology.  Social media has improved how we can outreach to particular communities whether it be by: internal to the organization, geographically isolated, disease specific, demographically oriented, or widespread to the masses.  Yet, the FDA has a problem with social media.  What is that problem?

You work for your local public health department and they have asked you to create a 1 page paper to be sent out to your community describing the state of your health care market.
Research your local community.
Describe- include the following:
Cultural demographics of your community
Age breakdown of your community
How the demographics and age affect your local health care market

Examine a copy of a manual for a software program such as a word processor, spreadsheet, or database, or examine a help system for a program you use regularly.

Part I

Examine a Manual or Help System for Task Orientation

Directions: Examine a copy of a manual for a software program such as a word processor, spreadsheet, or database, or examine a help system for a program you use regularly.  Study the table of contents, looking at all the elements in the documents (there may be more than one document included in the printed set).  Find instances where you think the manual or help reinforces the user’s workplace and workplace tasks.  How much of the document is in “how-to” format?

Part II

Evaluate the Manual

Directions: Look back at the “Five Key-Task Orientation Questions” and answer each one for the manual you have looked at.  These answers will be fairly short, but should cover all aspects of the manual that are relevant.

Part III

Response

Directions: For this third part of the homework assignment, you should reflect back on the answers you provided and write a response between one and a half and two pages in which you explain how effective the manual is.  If you find any places in the manual that you think could use some revision based on the first two parts of this assignment and on your readings, explain how the manual is lacking, and then explain how it could be revised and what could be added to strengthen it.

Make sure your lecturer and/or tutor has explained this concept to you.

Assignments will be marked on the basis of fulfillment of the requirements, and the quality of the final product.

Obtain a current events article related to a topic in this class. Why is the article important?

1.  Obtain a current events article related to a topic in this class. You can use any legitimate resource but make sure it is within the past 18 months – see external links for assistance.  The article can be about an issues or a recent case.  Remember this class also covers child abuse and elderly abuse so you can use those articles as well.

2. Write a 2-3 paragraph opinion the article and (really important) state how it applies to this class – and state where in your book it applies to this class.   Why is the article important,   Why did you feel that you should bring this to the attention of the class.  What “caught your attention?”

Research and prepare a report on the Big Bath Hypothesis.

You are a junior accountant with Factional Ltd, a large, publicly-listed company operating in the high-tech sector. Factional Ltd has recently appointed a new chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Magnus Bouche, who is due to take up his appointment very shortly. Last night, at the invitation of a friend, you attended a prestigious charity function which, coincidentally, was also attended by Mr Bouche. At one point during the night, you found yourself standing quite close to (but unobserved by) Mr Bouche and overheard a part of his conversation with friends, including his comment that the first thing he intended to do as CEO of Factional Ltd was to “take a bath”.

You are not sure of what it means to “take a bath”, but the conspiratorial tone of the conversation and the fact that one of Mr Bouche’s friends responded to the comment by asking about the likely impact on Factional Ltd’s share price, while another laughed and said something (which you couldn’t quite hear) about Mr Bouche’s put options in Factional Ltd shares, have aroused your suspicions.

This morning, you spoke confidentially to your supervisor in the accounting department of Factional Ltd, Ms Betta Golightly, telling her about the overheard conversation and asking her whether she knew what it meant to “take a bath”. She replied that she had heard of the Big Bath Hypothesis and knew that it related to earnings management, but confessed that she didn’t know about any likely capital markets impacts. She then asked you to conduct some research and prepare a report for her, outlining the following:

  1. Possible motivations for an “earnings bath”
  2. How an “earnings bath” may be achieved

iii. Whether an “earnings bath” has implications for a firm’s share price

  1. Whether an “earnings bath” has implications for the value of a firm’s stock options.

Your report will provide the basis for Ms Golightly’s decision on whether the matter should be brought to the attention of Factional Ltd’s audit committee (a sub-committee of Factional Ltd’s board of directors).
