Explain in your paper how the company handled communicating the change to its stakeholders.

An important part of any change project is how the change is communicated to the organization, to the change agents, to the line workers, to the customers, and to the public. Along with media relations issues, communicating change (especially in a publicly traded company) can involve multiple legal and regulatory aspects, as well as personnel and management concerns. Perhaps the single most difficult piece of handling Kotter’s “establish a sense of urgency” is that too many inexperienced or immature change agents read this to mean “panic the troops.” Never do this.

This project piece will have 3 parts:

  1. The main part of your project this week will ask you to pick ONE of Apple Inc and Kodak’s change plan, and develop a communication plan for the company. This plan should be submitted by using an excel spreadsheet attachment, setting out the Stakeholders, the timeline of the communication plan, the method of communication, the rationale for why you chose this method of communication, the purpose of the communication and identifying “who” will do the communicating.
  2. Pick ONE of the communication pieces which you would have used which is listed in your communication plan, and write the communication in a Word document (either the text or the script, if the communication would have been oral.) If you use any form of communication from templates you find online or in a textbook, be sure to cite your source. Your instructor will grade this based on how well it relates to the audience/stakeholder group to which it is intended.
  3. The “real world” aspect of this project is that you will write a 1-2 page analysis of one of the media pieces about one of the company’s changes written (or provided via oral media) by the company. For this section of the project, please analyze any media, news, or other communications which explained the change going on in the organization. Explain in your paper how the company handled communicating the change to its stakeholders.

Write an unambiguous definition for each attribute.

Petrie’s Electronics Case Questions Solutions

  1. Again, review the DFDs you developed for the Petrie’s Electronics case. (I have placed the level 1 diagrams in the Project Workbook – Week 3 folder in doc sharing, use your homework solution for the Record Customer Activities level 1).

Use these DFDs to identify the attributes of each of the six entities listed in this case, using Figure PE Figure 7-1; I have also placed the Visio diagram in doc sharing, Project Workbook – Week 4).

Write an unambiguous definition for each attribute. Then, redraw PE Figure 7-1 by placing the six (and additional) entities in this case on the diagram along with their associated attributes.

List at least 2 attributes for each of the six entities and describe then in a short sentence or bullet statement. Then redraw PE Fig 7-1 to look like figure 7-21.

  1. Using your answer to Question 2, designate which attribute or attributes form the identifier for each entity type. Explain why you chose each identifier.

Look in the book for the definition of an identifier – an attribute that will make each entity unique (sometimes called candidates Key or primary keys; i.e. student ID etc.). Pick an identifier for each of the six entities that will make them unique. Identifiers are underlined in attribute list in entities – so look in the book for some examples)

  1. using your answer to Question 3, draw the relationships between entity types needed by the system. Remember, a relationship is needed only if the system wants data about associated entity instances. Give a meaningful name to each relationship. Specify cardinalities for each relationship and explain how you decided on each minimum and maximum cardinality on each end of each relationship. State any assumptions you made if the Petrie’s Electronics cases you have read so far and the answers to questions in these cases do not provide the evidence to justify the cardinalities you choose. Redraw your final E-R diagram in Microsoft Visio

Discuss the alternatives to the current policy option by enumerating and explaining each policy option in turn.

Policy Paper:
What is a Health Policy Paper?
The issue addressed should be a legitimate contemporary health policy issue within which the current policy is clearly discernible.
There should be clear alternatives to the current policy.
There must be sufficient data present to provide the target audience (i.e. the decision-maker) with information to make a decision on the policy proposal.

Format for the Policy Paper
Below are the guidelines for writing a policy paper. Some variation may occur depending on the topic of the paper and the research methods being used. Policy papers should be approximately 8 pages in length.

Executive Summary (.5-1page in length)
At the beginning of the paper explain who the target audience is (i.e., the decision-maker for your policy proposal) and the main points that the decision-maker should know. It may be best to write this section last because it will serve as a summary of the entire paper.
At a minimum, the summary should include the following:
A statement of current policy
Reasons for initiating changes
Policy options to be considered
Pros and cons of each option
Recommended course of action
Reasoning for selecting that course of action

Body of Paper
The main portion of the paper should be dedicated to establishing the background and discussing the reasoning behind the policy recommendation. Students should include all of the basics from the executive summary, but fully elaborate on each point that the paper is making. The following is an outline describing what the main body of the paper should include.
Overview / Background
Statement of purpose – Why is the decision-maker being asked to consider a policy change at this time?
Review the Current Policy – What are we currently doing, why are we doing it this way, what is the public’s perception of the policy? Assess how well it is or is not working.
Statement on the Necessity for Change – What circumstances (e.g., changes in government, leadership, stability, etc.) have changed that make a new approach advisable or necessary?
Discussion
Discuss the alternatives to the current policy option by enumerating and explaining each policy option in turn.
Pros and cons of each policy option should be discussed next. Identify the political, economic, and security implications for each option. Each policy option should be compared and contrasted to the other options as well as to the current policy. This is the most important part of the paper.
Recommendation
Clearly identify which option will be recommended and which options will be discounted.
Clearly lay out the argument for why that option is better than each of the others.
Implementation
Write a detailed recommendation for specific steps on how and when to implement the recommended policy option.

Viable Alternatives
Policy papers must present several policy alternatives, and they must be serious alternatives. As a general rule, three options should be presented. One serious alternative will often be to maintain the status quo.

Cost-benefit analysis
Policy papers should include a clear cost-benefit analysis. The student should be certain to think through all possible outcomes clearly and thoroughly. The cost-benefit analysis should seriously consider the feasibility of implementation, not only in terms of economic or strategic implications, but also in terms of political feasibility. Moreover, the analysis of likely effects must not be completely one-sided. There are always going to be some benefits and some costs to any policy proposal.

Clear Criteria
Students should present clear criteria for evaluating the problem at hand and the policy alternatives to be considered. This will involve prioritizing among a variety of possible values. Trade-offs are the heart of the policy process – if solutions were easy or obvious, the problem would not be around for the student to analyze.

Clear predictions
What are the likely result of the proposed policy option? Be specific and reasonably detailed. What level of certainty can one have about them? And what middle-run indicators would demonstrate success?

Health Policy Topics:
Food Safety Policies
GMO’s
Healthcare-associated infection
Death with Dignity
E-Cigarettes regulation
Mental Health coverage, Mental Health Parity Act
Ninety-Day Grace Period- ACA 90 day grace period before an insurer can discontinue someone’s coverage for failure to pay a monthly premium.
Ideas (Health Policy Briefs, www.healthaffairs.org/healthpolicybriefs/archives)

What is Not a Policy Paper?
An historical analysis is never an appropriate topic for a policy paper. A policy paper must focus on a current policy issue. For example, an analysis of what George W. Bush should or should not have done in 2001 would work well as a research paper, but it would not be acceptable as a policy paper.
Comparative or case studies normally fit better as research papers than policy papers. For example, a comparative study of conflict resolution in South Africa and Northern Ireland, although certainly providing an analysis with contemporary relevance, would work far better as a research than a policy paper.

Discuss the initial budget process, the variances, and potential reasons for the variances.

You are a manager for a pet supplies manufacturer. This responsibility requires you to create budgets, make pricing decisions, and analyze the results of operations to determine if changes need to be made to make the company more efficient.

Using the workbooks and budget variance report you created for Final Project Part I, you will make recommendations about possible changes. You will look at the possibility of making some components of one product instead of buying them, and you will determine how to evaluate the company as a whole and managers in particular. You will create a budget analysis detailing your findings.

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed in your analysis:

a) Budget Process and Variances

1. Discuss the initial budget process, the variances, and potential reasons for the variances.

2. What are the changes you think the company should make based on the variance analysis? What will the changes accomplish?

3. What are the ethical considerations of the changes you have selected? Why are you recommending these particular changes?

b) “Make” or “Buy”: Suppose you were to consider buying a particular component of one of your products or making the product in-house.

1. What factors would you consider in such a “make” or “buy” decision?

2. What are the ethical considerations of your decision? What implications could this decision have?

3. For each option (i.e., to “make” or to “buy”), how will this impact the efficiencies of your operation?

c) Nonfinancial Performance Measures

1. What suggestions would you make for nonfinancial performance measures that the company should adopt? What are the pros and cons of each?

2. What are the ethical considerations of your suggestions? Explain the significance of each.

Explore actions you can take to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, and waste disposal costs.

Part b:

Environmental Footprint

carefully review the Grading Rubric before beginning the assignment.

The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to learn more about how connected you are to the ecosystems and biosphere that you inhabit. You will learn how your everyday choices impact our environment. Most importantly, you will learn about the benefits of joining the increasing number of people who are making choices that reduce their environmental impact.

First, calculate your ecological footprint (If you are having difficulty getting any of the proper information from the calculator, you may need to try a different web browser.  For instance, if you are using Google Chrome, you may need to use Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla, etc.  If you are using one of these and are experiencing difficulties, you may need to try Google Chrome, etc.).
Use the Footprint Calculator to measure your ecological footprint and learn “how many Earths” it takes to support your lifestyle. Be sure to choose the “detailed response” option for each question.
Answer each question in the quiz honestly and record your answers and results in the Environmental Footprint Reporting Form.
Second, calculate your household carbon emissions.
Use the Household Carbon Footprint Calculator to measure your carbon emissions and determine your environmental impact and the benefits of solutions.
Section 1: Estimate your current total household emissions (from home energy use, vehicle use, waste).
Section 2: Explore actions you can take to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, and waste disposal costs.
Section 3: See how much you can save (in dollars and emissions) by taking the actions you chose in Section 2.
Answer each question in the quiz honestly and record your answers and results in the Environmental Footprint Reporting Form. Complete Tables A and B as well as assignment questions 1 through 4 in complete sentences on the Environmental Footprint Reporting Form.

Identify and explain three strategies that will help Chloe with her fluency.

How might you go about creating a literacy-rich environment in your classroom? Share specific examples of literature you would consider essential reading for students. Why these?

2) What are some techniques to encourage the acquisition of high-frequency words in the classroom?

Homework 2 due 9/29/2015

Use the following scenario from The IRIS Center to complete the tasks below:

Chloe is a quiet fifth grader who is naturally organized and thrives on structure. Chloe’s mother reports that she tends to be focused on tasks, even in play. Chloe’s teacher, Mrs. Clifton, has also noticed that she is diligent with academic tasks. When reading aloud in class, Chloe is able to read all sight words and decode most multi-syllable words she encounters. However, Chloe’s fluency is not at the level of most fifth graders. Mrs. Clifton reports she is a word-by-word reader and does not read with proper tone or expression, but she feels Chloe has the skills needed to become a fluent, expressive reader. She has decided to implement strategies that will help Chloe reach her goal, which is:

• Given readings at the fifth-grade level, Chloe will read fluently.

Paulsen, K., & the IRIS Center.(2004).Comprehension & vocabulary: Grades 3–5.

Research three strategies regarding fluency instruction that will assist Chloe in reaching her goals.

In 500-750-words, identify and explain three strategies that will help Chloe with her fluency.

In addition, select a fifth-grade passage from a basal series (or a fifth grade passage from Appendix B of the Common Core standards) and describe how you would have Chloe’s parents use it at home.
