Discuss (a) how these crimes are committed, (b) their impacts on organizations, and (c) the tools a security professional has available to reduce opportunities for such crimes to occur.

Paper: White-Collar Crime
For this assignment, we will focus on the various tools and techniques available to the security professional in order to mitigate white-collar crime.
Select two of the white-collar crimes listed below.
(a) Computer crimes
(b) Credit card fraud
(c) Embezzlement
(d) Workman’s Comp fraud
(e) Environmental crime
(f) Securities fraud
(g) Healthcare fraud
Discuss (a) how these crimes are committed, (b) their impacts on organizations, and (c) the tools a security professional has available to reduce opportunities for such crimes to occur.
Locate an example of one of your two white-collar crimes. Please make sure it is current, that is, within the past 2 years. Analyze the crime and how it was discovered, then discuss possible measures that could have deterred those found guilty.
For this assignment, you are required to prepare a report of three to five pages (excluding title page and reference page), and post it in the respective Dropbox for this week.
Remember to include at least two authoritative references. They must be cited within the paper as well as listed on a reference page. See the APA citation tutorial in the Course Syllabus.

How can human resource management strategically contribute to the organization’s mission and vision on a daily basis?

Effective management of human resources contributes to mission accomplishment and vision achievement. Given that a vision is the future preferred status for an organization, it is critical to align people with the processes and resources necessary to propel the organization forward. As easy as this may seem to the uninformed, there are many challenges as pressure is applied to consistently reduce costs while delivering superior goods and or services.

Whether you are part of a small entrepreneurial start up, a civil servant with a mature and large government entity, or a volunteer for a non-profit organization, someone is fulfilling the role of HR oversight. No matter what type of organization you are working for the HR functions typically associated with building human capital are: analysis and design of work, recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, employee relations, personnel policies, compliance with laws, and strategies for supporting the mission.

This assignment is designed to integrate the reflection of personal experience, and the information covered in the textbook. Assuming you are Juanita, answer the following questions:

  • How can human resource management strategically contribute to the organization’s mission and vision on a daily basis?
  • What skills might Juanita have to develop to better fulfill her role?
  • How might Juanita engage line managers to become more involved in what has traditionally been HR’s function in this organization? Why?
  • Which aspects of human resource management would she want to entrust to specialists? Why?

Explain which of the HR practices described in the case you think contribute to greater efficiency and effectiveness of TSA employees. Why?

Read the Case: TSA and do the following:

  • Summarize the case in 1-2 paragraphs.
  • Explain which of the HR practices described in the case you think contribute to greater efficiency and effectiveness of TSA employees. Why? Recommend at least two other practices which could be employed to increase efficiency and effectiveness of TSA employees. Justify your response.
  • Explain which of the HR practices described in the case you think can contribute to ethical behavior by TSA employees. Why? Recommend at least two other practices which could be employed to encourage ethical behavior of TSA employees. Justify your response.
  •  Explain at least 3 practices you would recommend to ensure TSA follows equal employment guidelines. Justify your response.

Provide four reasons for obeying the law or ethical principles that do not involve punishment or reward. Is there a difference between people who obey the law out of fear and those who obey the law out of a sense of duty or character?

Glaucon (Ring of Gyges) says that we obey the laws only from fear of punishment. Provide four reasons for obeying the law or ethical principles that do not involve punishment or reward. Is there a difference between people who obey the law out of fear and those who obey the law out of a sense of duty or character? What are those differences? When is it acceptable not to obey the laws? What types of laws ought we obey and which ought we disregard? Be sure to back up your answers with information you have learned from the readings in the week.

How is “vision” displayed in the graphic novel Darkroom by Lila Quintero?

This is a two paged double spaced theme analysis paper about “vision” in darkroom, a graphic novel by Lila Quintero. I am trying to focus on how her perspective changes throughout the book. An example would be her adding her eyes throughout the book to show that her growth and what she learned or seen that changed her perspective. Another example of vision of be her vision of the imagined. During the civil rights movement protest, she included an image of a black protester’s eyes in fear. I think it meant how she could picture those imagined scenes because she wasn’t there physically at the civil rights movement. Please elaborate more on it, you might have to read few pages of the book which can also be downloaded online for free. Thank you.

Compare the Z-distribution with Student’s t-distribution (t-distribution), focusing on the four attributes of probability distributions (random variable name, behavior [curve], mean, and standard deviation).

PLEASE READ THE QUESTIONS/PROBLEMS CAREFULLY; SHOW ALL YOUR WORK AND REASONING, Just the answer, without supporting work, will receive no credit.

  1. Considering the definition of “point estimate,” used in determination of an “interval estimate” (construction of a confidence interval) for an unknown population parameter, determine just the numerical value of the point estimate for a sample of your choice when

  1. an “interval estimate” for the unknown population mean is of interest.
  2. an “interval estimate” for the unknown population proportion is of interest.

NOTE: You may consider either one sample or two different samples with the size(s) of your choice.  For the proportion case you may consider gender, if people are involved in your sample; or, you may consider “defective” and “non-defective” if members of your sample are, say, calculators.

  1. When you construct a 95% confidence interval, what are you 95% confident about?
  2. All other things remaining the same, is a 90% confidence interval narrower or wider than a 95% confidence interval? Briefly and clearly explain your answer.  HINT: Think of the corresponding margins of error (or error bounds).

  3. All other things remaining the same, what is the impact of an increase in sample size on the width of the confidence interval? Explain your answer briefly and clearly.

  4. Briefly,

  1. compare the Z-distribution with Student’s t-distribution (t-distribution), focusing on the four attributes of probability distributions (random variable name, behavior [curve], mean, and standard deviation).
  2. compare the format of the Z-table with that of the t-table, focusing on the fundamental differences in format and the information involved.

  1. Briefly answer the following questions:

  1.  When should we use the t-table, instead of the Z-table, while constructing confidence intervals or conducting tests of hypotheses.
  2. When must the requirement of the normality (or approximate normality) of the population distribution be met when we use Z or t?
  3. What would be the impact on the confidence interval, if a mistake is made and Z table is used instead of the t-table?  Support your answer with a brief description and/or computation.  HINT: Examine the superimposed graphs of Z-distribution and t-distribution given in Lane, and focus on the relative magnitudes of Za/2 and ta/2, each being a factor in the margin of error (error bound).

  1. (Show your work.) In a recent Zogby International Poll, nine of 48 respondents rated the likelihood of a terrorist attack in their community as “likely” or “very likely.”

  1.  Use the “plus four” method, as explained by Illowsky, to create a 97% confidence interval for the proportion of American adults who believe that a terrorist attack in their community is likely or very likely.
  2.  Explain what this confidence interval means in the context of the problem.

You can use the statistical tables provided on LEO (Content > Course Resources > Statistical Resources).

  1. (Show your work.) A Nissan Motor Corporation advertisement read:  “The average man’s I.Q. is 107. The average brown trout’s I.Q. is 4. So why can’t man catch brown trout?”  Suppose you believe that the brown trout’s mean I.Q. is greater than four. You catch 12 brown trout. A fish psychologist determines the I.Q.s as follows: 5; 4; 7; 3; 6; 4; 5; 3; 6; 3; 8; 5. Conduct a hypothesis test of your belief. Use a significant level of 5%. The standard deviation of the I.Q.s listed is approximately 1.62.  You can use the statistical tables provided on LEO (Content > Course Resources > Statistical Resources).
  2. (Show your work.) According to the Center for Disease Control website, in 2011 at least 18% of high school students have smoked a cigarette. An Introduction to Statistics class in Davies County, KY conducted a hypothesis test at the local high school (a medium sized–approximately 1,200 students–small city demographic) to determine if the local high school’s percentage was lower. One hundred fifty students were chosen at random and surveyed. Of the 150 students surveyed, 82 have smoked. Use a significance level of 0.05 and using appropriate statistical evidence, conduct a hypothesis test and state the conclusions. You can use the statistical tables provided on LEO (Content > Course Resources > Statistical Resources).

  3. (Show your work.) A study is done to determine if students in the California state university system take longer to graduate, on average, than students enrolled in private universities. One hundred students from both the California state university system and private universities are surveyed. Suppose that from years of research, it is known that the population standard deviations are 1.5811 years and 1 year, respectively. The following data are collected. The California state university system students took on average 4.5 years with a standard deviation of 0.8. The private university students took on average 4.1 years with a standard deviation of 0.3. What would be your conclusions based on significance levels of 5% and 1%? You can use the statistical tables provided on LEO (Content > Course Resources > Statistical Resources).

Analyze the key elements of buying products through customer service or direct services from the Coca Cola Company.

It is critical to make the best of every interaction with the customer.

Analyze the key elements of buying products through customer service or direct services from the Coca Cola Company.

Create a blueprint (diagram) for Coca Cola detailing the service delivery process involving the frontline employee–customer contacts before, during, and after the purchase. Each contact should be clearly identified and deliberated.

On the basis of the blueprint, select possible contact point failures where you would create improvements in the form of new or improved services. Why do you consider these to be contact point failures?

For these contact point failures, identify and analyze at least two areas for improvement or creation of new services. Why are you suggesting these areas? How will customers benefit by improving these areas or creating new services?

In addition, write a statement positioning the brand around the new or improved services.

  • Present your analysis as a 6-page report in a Microsoft Word document formatted in APA style.
  • On a separate page, cite all sources using APA format.

Factors that affect demand, supply, and prices in the market in which the competitor organization operates.Discuss.

Imagine you are part of a strategic planning group at a large corporation that is considering developing a new proposed product. The marketing director has asked your team to do a competitive market analysis to determine the product’s potential success. The analysis will focus on your primary competitor in the product’s market.

Select a potential competitive organization and a product in that organization.

Write a 1,400- to 1,750-word paper analyzing the current market conditions. Address the following topics:

  • A short history of the organization and a description of their product
  • Factors that affect demand, supply, and prices in the market in which the competitor organization operates
  • Define the market for your chosen product, including an analysis of its competitors, and customers.
  • Any issues or opportunities your organization faces that affect its competitiveness and long-term profitability with regards to your product: This may include but is not limited to the following elements:
    • Price elasticity of demand
    • Technological innovation
    • The relationship between the amount of labor & capital employed and the law of diminishing marginal productivity
    • Cost structure
  • Factors affecting variable costs, including productivity and others that change the supply of and demand for labor
  • Factors affecting fixed costs

Make recommendations on how your organization can maximize their profit-making potential and successfully compete in the new market. Consider the effect your recommendations may have on marginal revenues and costs.

Use a minimum of 3 peer reviewed sources.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Evaluate the different types of learning your employees exhibit and create a list of potential learning needs that should be considered as you begin designing your training.

Preparation is key to any good research paper and presentation. Next week, you will be creating your Final Paper and Presentation. It is important to begin gathering your information and sources to fulfill this project successfully. For your Final Paper, you will be designing a training moduleproposal (not a full training module). The title of this training module is “The Importance of Understanding Your Learners’ Needs”. Essentially, you will be proposing the information you would include for assisting managers gain knowledge in how to meet the learning needs of their departmental employees.

In this week’s paper, you will be setting the stage to demonstrate your understanding of the psychology of learning and how it can be applied to a real-life scenario by creating a list of learning principles you may want to incorporate into your training module. The group you are hypothetically assigned to train has already been designed for you.  See the “PSY331 Final Assessment Scenario“.

Although the Final Paper requires you to apply five principles to your training, that you feel will best meet your diverse learners’ needs, you will include a minimum of seven principles in this assignment that will provide you with options for your final design. The principles you choose may be from the following areas of learning psychology: behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, or humanism. Be sure to review the Final Paper instructions in Week Five for further guidance. You will also include five content areas that you would want to include in a training such as this.

For this assignment, you will be evaluating the different types of learning, which are indicated in the scenario for the final assignment, and then list what content you intend to include in your training, based on their needs.

Your paper must include the following:

  • an explanation of Behaviorism, Cognitivism, Constructivism, and Humanism (one to two paragraphs each.)
  • a description of seven areas of content (principles of learning) that you feel are the most important when teaching others about the importance of meeting leaner needs
    • Will you include information about multiple Intelligences or Emotional Intelligences?
    • Will you include how scaffolding differs from person to person?
    • What do you think is the most important?
    • Demonstrate your understanding of these principles by describing how they are important in creating effective learning.
  • a description of seven strategies, based on theory, that you will include in your own training module to ensure learning success by the group of individuals you are wanting to train (will you use repetition based on Behaviorism? Will you use motivational rewards based on humanism?).
    • Analyze how learning and learning theory may affect this situation by listing seven possible strategies you might use in this training scenario and supporting their application through theoretical explanations.
    • an explanation about why you would use each strategy based on theory and each content matter based on importance (in your opinion).

To complete this successfully, also apply your research skills to this content by synthesizing supporting evidence from at least three scholarly sources from the Ashford University Library that defend these strategies as the best options for your training.

Be sure to review the Final Paper instructions in Week Five for further guidance.

Writing the “Applying Learning Theory to Life” Paper

    9. Ashford 6: – Week 5 – Final Paper
    10. Final Paper and Presentation

    11. You are one of many training specialists in your company. You have been asked to design a training module for managers on how to meet the learning needs of their departmental employees. Meet the employees.  The all have different needs.  You will need to decide on these needs first.

The title of the training will be “The Importance of Understanding Your Learners’ Needs”.

If your proposal is chosen as the training module for the company, you will be granted a substantial bonus and a raise.   Woohoo!  But you have to get the job first.

For the written portion of your final assignment, you will create a training module design that includes five strategic principles that you will apply in the training to assist your own training module in being successful, and a minimum of five principles of learning that you want to “teach” to your group of managers. You will base your choices on the hypothetical group of managers that you want to train. These principles may include any theoretical elements that have been introduced to you in the course. Examples of principles from these areas are provided below:

      • Behaviorism – repetition, reinforcement (feedback), association, and classical and operant conditioning
      • Cognitivism – assimilation, accommodation, the information processing model, and intellectual stimulation
      • Constructivism – scaffolding, metacognition, problem-solving and inquiry-based learning
      • Humanism – holism, personal agency, and motivation

You may also wish to review the following online sources to guide you in making decisions for your training:

      • Cognitivism
      • Humanism in Education
      • Workshop: Constructivism as a Paradigm for Teaching and Learning
      • How to Use Behaviorism in a Classroom.

      Examples:

You may want to apply an activity to your training that uses repetition based on Behaviorism that suggests that reinforcement of responses is done through repetition, giving the student small sequences of tasks and providing constant flow of positive reinforcement to encourage effective learning of responses. Why would you think this is important? What learner needs did you notice?

A reminder – You do not need to design the activity or learning. Simply explain what you will teach and why and how you would teach it and why.

Or you may want to include a scaffolding strategy, such as linking the information to past experiences each manager has had, based on Cognitivism. What would this look like as a training session?

For the content you may want to include the importance of Emotional Intelligence differences or Multiple Intelligences? There are many we have discussed in this course. This is up to you, but you must include 5 areas of content you think would be the most important to teach. Remember the focus of your proposed training is “how to meet the learning needs of their departmental employees”. You are the expert.

Your grasp of each of the five principles you include in your content, as well as the applied principles from your course activities, will be evaluated based on your assessment of learner needs, the accuracy of your description, and the application of each in your proposed training module. Be sure to download the “PSY331 Final Assessment Scenario” document to view the specific information for the employees and training. You should follow these steps to complete your assignment:

        1. Evaluate the different types of learning your employees exhibit and create a list of potential learning needs that should be considered as you begin designing your training.
        1. Determine which five psychological principles/elements you will apply to your training to benefit those who you want to train.
        1. As you apply the principles to your activity, explain why you have chosen them based on your learner group.
        1. Research your training assignment.  You will be training managers on the importance of understanding how we learn and the importance of their employees’ learning styles and needs.
        1. Analyze psychological principles related educational issues and decide what learning styles and learner need content you should include in your training.
        1. Align five areas that you will include in the content of the training with the strategies/principles you have chosen.
        2. Research the employees you will be training (see the “PSY331 Final Assessment Scenario” document) and use critical thinking and creative strategies to solve potential training problems.
        3. Apply basic research methods and gather resources that will support your content.
            • You must utilize at least four scholarly sources to support your proposed training course.
          • Cite your sources in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
        1. Write your paper.
      1. Pitch your idea through a great presentation.

      A Suggested Outline

Through the use of headings and subheadings, you should be able to thoroughly explain what you would like to teach and how you will approach your training. Please see the “PSY331 Suggested Outline format” document for an example.

      Focus of the Final Presentation

After completing your paper, it will be time to sell your idea. You will create a presentation with the goal of having your training module chosen for use by the company to train its management teams. For this presentation, you will produce a screencast presentation using PowerPoint and Screenr.com.  You will only be allotted five minutes for your presentation, so you will need to showcase you ideas effectively. Learning how to market yourself and sell your ideas will be extremely advantageous to you in your current and/or future career, so you should think outside of the box and be as creative as possible in the presentation portion of this final assignment. Additionally, this final assignment will help you build technical skills that will potentially aid you in your current and/or future career.

Consider the following questions as you create your presentation:

        • How will your training module “win out” over the other candidates for this project?
        • What makes your training module great?
        • In what ways are you able to meet all of your learners’ special needs?
        • Is your training engaging? Why?
        • How does your training consider the diversity of the learners?
        • How does your training consider items such as the time it takes to go through each module and/or how it will impact employee work productivity?
      • In real life, this pitch could mean a big promotion or bonus. How will you get this promotion?

Create a script document and a PowerPoint presentation from your paper by highlighting the points that really show why your training is the best option.  The script will assist you in creating a video presentation, which cannot exceed the five-minute time limit allowed for your screencast. The PowerPoint presentation should be a minimum of six content slides and must include the following elements:

    12. A minimum of five principles of learning you have studied in this course, which you included in your paper and applied to the development of activities you created for your training.

    1. The needs of your learners that were considered.

    1. An outline of the overall content for your learning material. Include at least five specific skills that will be addressed. (This is separate from your five applied teaching techniques.)

    1. A brief analysis of why it is important to apply learning theory to training/educating.

    1. A brief explanation of how your current understanding of learning theory may assist you in your future career.

Using Screenr.com or Screencast-O-Matic, create a screencast of your presentation.  Include a title for your presentation in the description box when you publish your screencast.  Refer to the “Screenr.com Quick-Start Guide” for assistance.

Your presentation time is limited to five minutes, so it is highly recommended that you practice reading through your script prior to beginning the screencast capture. Please do not read your slides. This is boring, and it will not impress your manager (or get you that raise).

The slides should provide selling points that support the training module included in your paper. You should have put a lot of time and effort into your paper; the presentation is where you convince your boss how great it is and why the company should go with your proposal.

Copy and paste the URL link to your screencast at the top of your script document and at the bottom of the reference slide in your PowerPoint presentation. Although the reference slide must be present, you will not read through it due to the five-minute time constraint of the presentation. You must utilize at least four scholarly sources in your paper that are cited in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. All sources used within the writing assignment and/or presentation must be cited properly. You will submit both your written paper and PowerPoint presentation files for the final assignment for grading.
