Directions: Write a 1000-2000 word essay using APA style to document your research.  Remember that your grade depends on the thoroughness of your documentation.  The paper must be in proper APA format, be at least 4 pages in length, have a references section, and site at least 3 peer reviewed articles.

Issues in Ecology

Background: Throughout the world there are numerous environmental problems resulting from human population pressure on local natural resources.  A large proportion of ecological research is dedicated to finding solutions to these issues.

Objectives: Upon completing this assignment, you should be able to describe in-depth an ecological issue, including at least two different perspectives, and how this issue is representative of other similar issues.

Procedure: Pick an ecological crisis anywhere in the world that has attracted significant attention.  Explain the history of the event including how the situation reached a crisis point.  Document as many sides of the situation as possible and include the resolution, if any was reached, of the crisis.  If there was no resolution, speculate on how the crisis may be resolved in the future.

Example topics include:

·         Northern spotted owl habitat vs. logging interests in Pacific Northwest

·         Battle over water rights for farmers or wild fish in Southern Oregon

·         Fresh water use for development or conservation of the Everglades in South Florida

However, you are strongly encouraged to write about something you know and care about.  It will make the research more fun, and you will be able to throw your heart into your work.

Unit II Essay

Write a paper incorporating the external influences that impact business. You should address each facet illustrated below. Your

paper needs to be a minimum of three pages in length, double spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font, using APA style

guidelines. The reference listings and title page do not count towards the minimum page requirement. An abstract is not required.

Your paper should also include a minimum of four sources/references, in addition to your textbook. At least two sources must

come from any of the academic databases located in the CSU Online Library. Please do not plagiarize others’ work or submit a

paper you have previously submitted. All sources quoted or paraphrased must have proper in-text citations with a corresponding

listing in the reference page.

You are to choose one U.S. based company that has global operations in another country. You are to discuss each facet below

and how it may impact the way the company you chose does business internationally. For example, the legal systems are civil

law, common law, and theocratic law. If Coca-Cola does business in Iran, how does the theocratic legal system impact the way

Coca-Cola does business? Thus, you are to; MBA 6601, International Business 3

Topic 1 Discussion topic: Increase in Fixed Costs

Suppose a business experiences a sudden increase in its fixed costs. For example, suppose property taxes increase dramatically. What impact, if any, will this have on the following:
the firm’s AFC (average fixed cost);
the firm’s AVC (average variable cost);
the firm’s ATC (average total cost); and,
the firm’s MC (marginal cost)?
What changes, if any, is there likely to be in these same cost CURVES?

Healthcare Issues and Trends
Issues and trends that affect healthcare delivery are varied and arise from many different sources, such as the emergence of new technologies, changing patient and workforce demographics, and economic fluctuations. Federal, state, and local policies are continually instituted or amended to address new developments or priorities and to rectify problems in healthcare delivery. For instance, changes may be required to address cost containment challenges or disparities in access to healthcare services.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Identify an issue currently in the news that is associated with federal, state, or local efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
Research the issue in a variety of news sources, such as government sites (e.g., the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Mental Health) and online newspapers. Do not use blogs or other informal sources.
Select one article or news item on which to focus for this Discussion.
Reflect on the information in the article/news item and consider how it relates to your understanding of the U.S. healthcare delivery system. Review the information in the Resources and conduct additional research using the Walden University Library and credible websites to deepen your understanding of this issue.

Political Parties, Interest Groups, and Elections

The various political actors involved in the processes, activities, and policies of the U.S. government each have evolving goals and objectives. In addition, these actors have produced differential effects, both positive and negative, on the processes, activities, and policies of the federal government. In this last weekly worksheet, you will assess the positive and negative impacts of political parties, interest groups, or federal elections on the national government. In addition, you will recommend one option to enhance the positive impact and one to diminish the negative impact. This final effort will conclude the process of critically analyzing key features of our national government and prepare you for completion of your Final Paper in Week Five.

You are a business consultant to the National Minority Supplier Development Council. An international petroleum products distribution company, based in the U.S., consults with you on cultural diversity matters. It faces some complex choices at its overseas locations.  While equal opportunity, affirmative action, and individual civil rights are the law of the land in the U.S., this frequently is not the case in other countries. Therefore when moral and legal issues run counter to host-country customs, problems are bound to arise.

Prepare an executive summary, briefly discussing the following specific topics:

• Should U.S. civil rights laws apply to U.S. companies’ foreign operations? Express your opinion on this issue.
