Instruction:

For this project you will investigate a topic in world history up to 1000 CE. Write an essay of 1200 words, in which you examine the decelopment of one or two aspects of science during a narrow time period( for example, try to limit it to 25 years, e.g. 1600-1625). These aspects might be : the scientific research conducted, science in a determined geographic location, an institution(s) of science, the indivuduals or communities related to an aspect of scientific development, expeditions etc.

Please submit a 250 word proposal of your researhc project ( detials below) that includes:

1) A foraml title that describes the project ( not just ” History Proposal”)

2) Youe Name, Course Numer and Section

3) A paragraph with a preliminary description of your project as you plan now. Include some details about the people, science, and historical context involved, and make sure to discuss how it related to the courese.

4) A bibliography with:

a) at least ONE Primary  Source( a document or object produced by the people/ during the time you are investigating. You need to explain why this is a primary souce and how tou are going to use it.

b) and TWO secondary sources that are scholarly historical articles or books about the topic, Discuss how these sources will help you to place the primary source in its historical context. Provide citations for these( not URLS)in this or a similar format:

You learned that group behavior can influence human behavior and society as a whole. You will now have an opportunity to apply your understanding of the dimensions and theoretical perspectives that influence human behavior and identify services that promote healthy functioning. In this assignment, you will generate a case study on group behavior that resulted in a negative outcome. You will then create a report applying two behavioral theories and provide recommendations for effective behavioral strategies or other services.

Tasks:

In an 8- to 10-page paper:

• Describe a case example of group behavior that resulted in a negative outcome (for example, hazing or bullying) in a community or social service setting. Explain the rationale for selecting this group and setting.
• Identify a minimum of two behavior models and theories that apply to the example and highlight the manner in which the setting influences the behavioral outcomes. Justify your chosen models and theories.
• Recommend specific effective behavioral strategies and services that can improve healthy functioning of the group.

According to Collier (Basta! Land and the Zapatista Rebellion, 1994),

When in 1992 President Salinas de Gortari brought land reform—the issue on which his party had originally risen to power—to a halt, he signaled an abrupt end to a traditional government covenant with the peasantry and deprived many peasants not just of the possibility of improving their livelihoods, but of their power as a constituency.  The Zapatistas are trying to reclaim that constituency  (Collier, 1994:8).

The above quote says a great deal about the relationship between the peasant sector and the Mexican state that emerged after the Mexican Revolution.  It also suggests a relationship between the economic restructuring of Mexico’s economy and the rise of the Zapatista rebellion.  Indeed, the transition to free market economic principles and the adoption of neoliberal reform

permanently transformed the lives of Mexicans in the urban and rural sectors of Mexico’s economy. Such changes were social, political and economic in nature.

With this in mind, discuss the significance of the Mexican Revolution to the transition of the New Economic Model (Neoliberalism) in Mexico.  How did the Revolution address the problem of “two Mexicos” that emerged under Diaz? What were the goals of the Revolution?

In what ways did meaning of the Revolution change with the Presidency of Salinas de Gortari?

How do the testimonials provided by Hellman demonstrate and provide insight into understanding how free market mechanisms (NAFTA) would influence the lives of individuals?   Were all sectors impacted the same way? (Hellman discusses this in her book) Has Mexico returned to an era where there are “two Mexicos”?  Where would you place Mexico today in the context of its political and economic development? Why? (Make sure to cite a current event to support your position, discuss it in the conclusion of your paper).

Make sure to put the discussion in proper historical context by clearly explaining the significance of the Mexican Revolution, the factors that led to the rise of the PRI and ISI (state-led development model and what it entailed) and the factors that led to the adoption of Neoliberalism and its policy prescriptions.   Make sure to refer to at least (5) testimonials in Hellman’s work.  DO NOT OVERQUOTE.  You are welcome to include the documentary LA TORMENTA QUE AZOTO MEXICO (The Storm that Swept Mexico) or any other class materials in your discussion.

The assignment basically is talking about the” buyer power” which is one of the forces of porter’s 5 forces model. I want you to write a page and a half or two pages on the “buyer power” in the industry of a company called “Big Lots” . so your analysing the industry exaplaining the role of the “buyer power” in the industry. he goal of conducting a competitor analysis is to gather information about the company’s competitors and systematically formulate a strategy to become the market leader in the industry. In formulating any strategy, it is imperative that the company understand its organizational structure as well as the internal and external forces which could impact their strategic decisions.

Based on the company you chose in the previous module (UNITEDHEALTH GROUP), analyze the organization’s mission, vision, and values, its ability to compete, and the effectiveness of its management team in executing strategy. Some of the factors to be considered in doing this evaluation include the company’s internal resource capabilities, its relative cost position, and its competitive strength. In addition, evaluate the competitive strategy of your selected organization and examine how this strategic approach drives the rest of the strategic actions the company undertakes in terms of product line, production emphasis, marketing emphasis, and the means for sustaining the strategy. Make sure to include at least one analytical tool such as SWOT analysis, Porter’s, BCG, etc. in your analysis.

Research your selected organization’s strategy and analyze the following elements:

Mental Health Agency Interview Assignment 

Identify a mental health agency (a Community Mental Health Center or a local provider) or agency providing advocacy services for mental health (e.g., NAMI, Mental Health Association, etc.) in your area.  Have a conversation with someone in that agency exploring what he or she perceives to be the three most critical issues in mental health today.  Write a 2-3 page, double- spaced paper that includes whom you spoke with and their position, the name of the agency, and a summary of your conversation, focusing on the critical issues identified by that person.

Law-related Public Policy Research Paper  

You will be required to research and write a short paper (4 to 5 pages, double spaced) on some more specific aspect of the legal ramifications of mental health in the community.  Subject matter may be related to treatment of persons with mental illness in the criminal justice system, civil rights of persons with mental illness, consent to treatment, access to mental health care, prescription privileges for psychologists, institutionalization,   involuntary commitment laws, the not guilty by reason of insanity defense, etc.  You can use a combination of peer-reviewed articles, legal cases, and source documents, with 6-8 citations for A level work.  Make certain you cite your resources.  We urged you to refer to historic legal cases related to mental health care.  APA format must be used and points will be deducted for inappropriate citation style.  For students without an APA style manual, most APA style requirements are online (see for example,http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ orhttps://www.library.cornell.edu/research/citation/apa).  Points will also be deducted for grammatical and spelling errors (see rubric below for details).

You will be required to complete a 15-20 page, double-spaced paper (not including references), on a mental health policy issue of your choice.  The paper should briefly trace the history of the issue, describe current state and federal policies addressing the issue and discuss recommendations for future action.  You must refer to readings that have been assigned in class in your paper.  As previously stated, APA format should be used and points will be deducted for inappropriate citation style (note that we are requiring 12-15 citations for A level work). Points will also be deducted for grammatical and spelling errors.

Choose a single work of art from the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection which falls within the chronology of our syllabus (Prehistory – 1300 AD). Write a 3 page formal analysis of the work which presents an argument and conclusion about the work supported by formal evidence.

Description: A formal analysis includes an analysis of the forms appearing in the work you have chosen. These forms give the work its expression, message, or meaning. A formal analysis assumes a work of art is (1) a constructed object (2) that has been created with a stable meaning (even though it might not be clear to the viewer) (3) that can be ascertained by studying the relationships between the elements of the work. To aid in writing a formal analysis, you should think as if you were describing the work of art to someone who has never seen it before. When your reader finishes reading your analysis, she/he should have a complete mental picture of what the work looks like. Yet, the formal analysis is more than just a description of the work. It should also include a thesis statement that reflects your conclusions about the work.

The thesis statement may, in general, answer a question like these: What do I think is the meaning of this work? What message does this work send to the viewer, and how do the formal elements of the work accomplish this? What does the form, rather than the narrative, tell us about the artist’s intentions? Your job is to find an answer to such a question (of your choosing) solely through the formal qualities of the work. The thesis statement is an important element. It sets the tone for the entire paper, and sets it apart from being a merely descriptive paper.

In the introduction (first paragraph) you should include the Name of Artist, Title (which is italicized every time you use the title in your paper), and Date. Also include a brief description of the work, what you think the subject is, and where it is from. Your thesis statement is usually one of the last lines of your introductory paragraph.

From that point, the rest of the formal analysis should include not only a description of the piece, but especially those details of the work which support your thesis. Yet, your paper should not be a random flow of ideas about the work (i.e. stream of consciousness writing). Rather, your paper should have a sense of order, moving purposefully through your description with regard to specific elements (ex: one paragraph may deal with composition, another with a description of the figures, another with the background, another about line, etc.). Finally, in your conclusion (the final paragraph) you should end your paper with a restatement of your thesis and summary of your main points.

It is important to remember that your interest here is strictly formal; NO RESEARCH IS TO BE USED IN THIS PAPER. In other words, you are strictly relying on your ability to visually ‘read’ a work of art and make interpretations about it based on your analysis of it. You should not be analyzing the content based on what you know about the figures, narrative, or history of the work.

Eg. compare:

1) “The apostles are looking at Christ in the middle because he is the son of God.”

2) “The central figure, surrounded by light, is larger than the figures below, who all look up towards him, their gazes drawing lines to the central figure which guide the viewer’s own eye. This framing of light through colour and light contrast, hierarchical scale, and linear focus serve to emphasize the importance of the central figure in the composition.”

The second example uses formal elements as supporting evidence for the prominence of Christ in the composition, while the first just relies on an external knowledge of Christian values. Remember too that your analysis should not be just a mechanical, physical description. Please use descriptive language and adjectives to describe your work. Begin with a general description of the work, and then move on to the more specific elements. Always back up your statements with visual evidence!

Format: your paper should be 3 pages long (not including images/title page) and should be double spaced, using 11 or 12 point Times Roman font and 1” (inch) margins. Please include an image of your chosen work (available from the Met online collection) and full ID information at the end of your assignment.
