Do party platforms really mean anything? Is there really any difference?

This assignment will help you prepare for the next module’s assignment about Workforce 2020. Workforce 2020 refers to the type of workforce leaders are likely to encounter in 2020. The concept refers to the workforce that will emerge from trends such as increased globalization and diversity, more extensive use of technology, and the use of non-traditional staff such as more contractors and other “just-in-time” assets.

For this assignment, you will need to consider trends in leadership and organizational structure, for example, the move toward a more participative leadership style and a more networked organizational structure.

Identify an organization of your choice. This could be your current employer. It could even be a hypothetical organization or that of one of your peers. Be sure you have access to information about the organization and about the industry the organization is in. We would suggest choosing an organization and industry that are changing so that you can explore strategies for change management.

Research on that organization, and then respond to the following:

  • Describe the organization you have chosen. Please include the name and a short description of the organization’s products or services.
  • How does the organization motivate its employees? Describe any programs or methods they use to motivate workers. If the organization does not have any employee motivational strategies, suggest some strategies that you think will be effective.
  • Describe the current state of the organization’s workforce dynamic. Is its workforce growing? Is it changing? How is it changing and why?
  • What are some of the workforce trends that this organization needs to address? What similar organizations can be used as a benchmark?
  • What are some of the industry trends that are affecting the organization overall? Is the industry growing, or declining?

Do party platforms really mean anything? Is there really any difference?

A party’s “platform” is its official statement of beliefs and values. Most members of a political party – including its elected officials – have never read their party’s platform. A widely-held view among campaign professionals and political consultants is that a party’s platform can never help its candidates, but can hurt them if it contains provisions that are considered controversial by swing voters.

Your professor’s view is that party platforms are generally written by the most conservative Republicans and the most liberal Democrats – since those are the only party members devoted enough to hang around party conventions long enough to argue and vote on the platform provisions.

Do party platforms really mean anything? Is there really any difference?

Look at the websites of the two major national political parties and find the 2012 party platform of each:

www.democrats.org/

Write a 2 page essay. Describe the similarities and differences in the two documents. Most importantly, tell me what you would use from each party’s platform in a campaign AGAINST its candidates if you were working for the other side.

Submit in Word. Cite your sources.

Identify any potential ethical issues that may impact the traditional management functions of the company and recommend preventative measures.

The success of an organization depends heavily on its structure, strategies, and culture. In this assignment, you will develop an understanding of the importance of these elements in the success/failure of an enterprise.

This assignment is the first of the two LASA assignments you will complete in this course.

Using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, research methods of conducting internal and external environment analyses. Select at least three (3) scholarly sources to support the information in your report.

Description of LASA:

In this assignment, you will assess an organization’s current position in the internal and external environment.

Scenario:

You have been hired as a consultant to evaluate the performance of a manufacturing or service organization. As part of your function, you need to assess the organization’s current position with regard to their business operations, strategy, and organizational structure, as well as identify potential ethical issues management may face. The executive management team has asked you to submit a report of your findings.

Instructions:

Choose a publicly traded manufacturing or service organization to be the subject of your work for LASA 1 and LASA 2. (You should choose a different organization than you have used for previous assignments.) Select an organization about which there is an abundance of information made readily available to the public (via the corporate website, industry publications, business journals, etc.).

In preparation for your report, conduct your review of the organization using the following approach:

  • Evaluate the company’s business strategy and global competitiveness plan.
  • Conduct an internal assessment using SWOT analysis.
  • Assess the external environment via an external scenario evaluation.
  • Sketch the company’s organizational structure.
  • Using the tools of business process design, define the organization’s business process.
  • Identify any potential ethical issues that may impact the traditional management functions of the company and recommend preventative measures.

The U.S. and Costa Rican Constitutions have similarities and differences. List and discuss any three things you learned that differ between the two constitutional traditions.

The theme for your essay centers on the United States Constitution.  To accomplish this assignment involves the student accessing the NWOSU Institute for Citizenship Studies website, accessing a Constitution Day event presented in that website, watching the presentation and then answering the proposed question.

To get started, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to the web page:  http://www.nwosu.edu/nwics and click on “Signature Assignment.”

    2.      Click onto the last item: www.archives.gov –  National Archives Website on the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.

This will take you to the Charters of Freedom page.  At the top of the page, click “The Constitution.”  Read the content of the page, focusing on the article, “A More Perfect Union:  The Creation of the U.S. Constitution.”

3.  When you are finished, return to the Institute’s main page (http://www.nwosu.edu/nwics) and watch the Constitution Day event at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEVk_FiSWtI

This page features a discussion between Dr. Aaron Mason, NWOSU professor political science, and Dr. Mario Carvajal, former Costa Rican Ambassador to the European Union and an expert on the Costa Rican Constitution.  J.W. Platt, Instructor of History Emeritus, led the discussion as moderator.

Your essay assignment is to answer this question:

The U.S. and Costa Rican Constitutions have similarities and differences.  List and discuss any three things you learned that differ between the two constitutional traditions.

When answering the question, DO NOT make a numerical list, such as 1, 2, or 3.  This is an essay, everything should be in complete sentences and written in a narrative form.

Sources: You are automatically given two sources for your essay–the video and the aforementioned article.  If you deem it necessary, other sources to support your statements or conclusions are certainly allowed.  Sources can be either primary or secondary and must be cited using either APA, MLA, or Turabian style (in text, footnotes, or endnotes are acceptable).  Claiming words as your own from a source without proper citation is equivalent to plagiarism of which punishment is harsh. Even if you just rephrase or paraphrase a concept in a paragraph, you must cite the source.  The citing of any quote is mandatory.  In other words, tell me the source of your information in your essay.

Identify the most important (5–7) strategic issues facing the organization or business unit.

The end result of this course is developing a strategy audit. In this module, you will outline and draft a preliminary framework for your final product. This provides you with the opportunity to get feedback before a final submission.

In Module 1, you reviewed the instructions for the capstone strategy audit assignment and grading rubric due in Module 5. By now, you have completed the following steps:

  • Identified the organization for your report
  • Interviewed at least one key mid-level or senior-level manager
  • Created a market position analysis
  • Conducted an external environmental scan in preparation of your final report and presentation

In this assignment, you will generate a preliminary strategy audit in preparation for your final course project.

Prepare a report that includes the following:

  • In preparation for your course project, prepare the preliminary strategy audit using the tools and framework you have focused on so far including the following:
    • Analysis of the company value proposition, market position, and competitive advantage
    • External environmental scan/five forces analysis
  • Identify the most important (5–7) strategic issues facing the organization or business unit.
    • You may modify the strategic issues in your final report based on the additional analysis you will conduct in the next module as well as the feedback you receive on this paper from your instructor.
    • Keep in mind that it is important to look at the strategic issue(s) from more than just one perspective in the business unit or company—speak to or research the issue from more than one angle to offer a 360-degree approach that does not cause more problems or issues.
    • Strategic issues arise from a mismatch between internal capabilities and external trends such that important opportunities are not being pursued or significant external threats are not being addressed under the current strategy.
  • Include a preliminary set of recommended tactics for improving your company’s strategic alignment and operating performance.
    • You may modify these recommendations in your final report based on the additional analysis you will conduct in the next module as well as the feedback you receive on this paper from your instructor.
    • Keep in mind that recommendations can include, but are not limited to, tactics in marketing, branding, alliances, mergers and acquisitions, integration, product development, diversification or divestiture, and globalization. If you recommend your company to go global, you must include a supply chain analysis and an analysis of your firm’s global capabilities.

Write your report as though you are a consultant to your company and are addressing the executive officers of this company.

Write a 7–10-page report in Word format. Make sure your writing is clear, concise, and in an organized manner; demonstrates ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and displays accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Use the following format for your report:

  • Cover page
  • Executive summary/abstract
  • Table of contents
  • Introduction to company (each subsection should be an assessment)
    • Value proposition
    • Market position
    • Competitive advantage
  • External environmental scan/five forces analysis
    • Current environment
    • Assessment of external factors applying five forces
  • Strategic issues (label each issue and provide a header and the reason for why it is an issue)
  • Summary/key findings and recommendations
  • References

Imagine that you have been granted an interview by a world-renowned, female religious leader. What would you like to know concerning her beliefs, her struggles, and her successes?

Imagine that you have been granted an interview by a world-renowned, female religious leader. What would you like to know concerning her beliefs, her struggles, and her successes? Two of the suggested readings would be excellent sources for choosing a religious leader for this project. (You will not actually interview this person, so feel free to choose any well-known, female religious leader.)

Compile a list of 10 questions that would tell you more about her religion and why she chose to be a leader in it. Do not ask any “yes/no” questions. Good interview questions take just as much critical thinking to develop as answering the questions does. Your questions should demonstrate that you have some knowledge of her religious tradition. Your questions should dig deeper to get to information that cannot be found in the textbook or on the internet, but use that research to guide “the digging” in the interview.

Below are some possible topics for exploration in your research and in forming your questions. You are not limited to these topics:

  • Textual interpretations/misunderstandings
  • Cultural expectations of women
  • Influence of globalization
  • Influence of other religions
  • Religious traditions/practices
  • Effects on her personal life
  • Pressures of being a pioneer
  • Support system

Click here for a list of tips for writing interview questions.

As this interview is for an academic setting, you must use APA citations and references to support the research you conducted to create the 10 questions. You do not need a title page, running head or page numbers for this assignment, but be sure to put your name in the top left hand corner along with the date. Your interview title should include the name

PHL 2350, Philosophies of World Religions 4

of the potential interviewee, and your references should be on a separate page. Use double spacing and Times New Roman size 12 font.
