Provide a summary which includes the purpose, history and goals of the ethical standards.

This assignment is designed to help you synthesize and apply the current version of the ethical guidelines of forensic psychology to what you have been learning about the relationship of substance abuse in the criminal justice system, assessment, diagnosis and ethical considerations.

After thoroughly reading the ethical guidelines of forensic psychology, review the following scenarios and questions and respond to each question thoroughly.  Your paper should reflect an understanding of applying the ethical standards to the course material.

  • Provide a summary which includes the purpose, history and goals of the ethical standards.  What is your initial reaction to the ethical guidelines of forensic psychology?
  • Review and summarize the standards related to confidentiality.   What steps will you take as a counselor in the criminal justice system to be in compliance with the ethical standards?    After reviewing the textbook and online lecture, how will you handle “red flags” and the limits of confidentiality, yet be in compliance with the ethic guidelines?
  • You are presented with a client who is ordered through the court to undergo an examination or treatment.  The client refuses to sign the confidentiality agreement, and has made it quite clear he is not going to participate.  Identify what action you will take and provide the standard(s) which guided your decision.   Be sure to include a summary of what confidentiality is and why it is important. Your significant other is a recovering addict.
  • According to the module lecture countertransference may occur when counseling an individual who has similar behaviors to the counselor’s family members.  Review the standard 4.07 from the ethical guidelines of the American Psychology-Law Society and the online content.  Discuss what options the counselor has to be in compliance with the standard.  Be sure to include a discussion of countertransference.
  • Compare and contrast the ethical issues of confidentiality and countertransference: Which issue do you believe will be most difficult to deal with, and why? After reviewing the ethical guidelines and applying the guidelines to treatment and evaluation issues provide your opinion of the relationship of substance abuse treatment and sanctions of the court.

Your report should be at least 5 pages long. Remember to also include a cover page and reference page, and to support your arguments with information drawn from the ethical guidelines of the American Psychology-Law Society, the  online content, the textbook, and other credible, scholarly sources to substantiate the points you are making.  Apply APA standards for writing and citations to your work.

Describe someone you admire, either a historical figure or someone alive today.

Nellie Interview Questions

1 –    Describe someone you admire, either a historical figure or someone alive today.

I admire Michelle Obama.  We worked at the University of Chicago around the same time and I would see her in passing.  She would smile and greet my group as we walked in the hallway.  She always seemed to be in deep thought or contemplating a very serious situation.  My friends and I used to whisper among ourselves and say, “She’s married to that young Illinois senator, Obama, and he’s going to run for president”.  One of my friends wanted to ask her, if her grandson could interview her for his class, but, she was afraid.

Michelle Obama, first lady, wife, mother, and lawyer.  She is educated and genuinely cares for the causes she believes in.  The two causes, I admire her taking a stand for are, the Military families support and the “Let’s Move” and “Eating Healthy” programs for the children.  She has really brought national attention and recognition to the concerns surrounding these issues to the American public.

2- Explain why you selected this person and why you admire this person.

Michelle Obama is an outspoken advocate for the people.  She has used her position and education to promote concern and action in the community.  The “Eating Healthy” initiative is my favorite because the school system my children attend has less than average meals and my children, as well as others, have stated that the meals are sorely lacking and they dump it.  My husband works in the school system’s environmental department and sees how much food is wasted by the children. I have thought about writing to her; many times, concerning the preparation and food choices offered.  She is forthright in her messages; a very good communicator, and practices her belief in health foods and meals.

My Personal Questions I asked the Interviewer

  1. You stated who you admired- Does this person strength has this person contribute to you in your life ( it could be a quote, something they did or didn’t do, etc.)

Many people have made derogatory remarks concerning FLOTUS Obama, yet, she never addresses nor confirms that these remarks bother her.  She remains grounded and focused to her tasks as spokesperson for her beliefs, a diligent advocate for the concerns she addresses.

  1. The person you admire- Did he/she helped you define your weakness? If so, if you do not mind sharing- how? Did it make a difference for the better or for the worse then formed into greatness?

I admire her strength and courage.  I have had untruths and derogatory remarks made about myself and it makes me angry, but, I have learned self-soothing techniques and promote my good qualities, through action, therefore, derogatory beliefs dissipate.

3-     How has this person changed your life? Change is an important word. Change could be for the better and for the worse. Everyone has room and can make room to change. However, how has this person change your life and train of thinking?

I have become an outspoken advocate for my children’s education and transportation in the Merrillville school system.  If I make a complaint and it is not addressed, I move up the chain of command.  If the community does not respond, then I go regional, if that does not work, I go to the state.  I support our state representative; I have sent him many emails and called his office concerning my children.  All concerns have been addressed and resolved.  I give positive input and always get positive feedback!
