How can we look at the food as playing a part in the debatable conversations that stem from the food systems that exist in our society?

 Prompt:

The goal of this essay is to turn our attention away from what your food actually is (nourishment), to how the food plays a role within larger rhetorical issues in our society. In other words, how is the food more than just food? How can we look at the food as playing a part in the debatable conversations that stem from the food systems that exist in our society? Food has been commodified for our convenience. However, this also takes away nearly all of our control. When you lose this much control, you are at the mercy of the corporations that control the means of production. We have to trust that these corporations have our best interests in mind. But do they?

This is where you are to focus. The essay, in essence, is not about the food itself. It is about any of the larger implications (consequences) that arise because of our society’s dependency on food. Be warned! I do not want a history of your food, or how it is prepared, or some sort of a Wikipedia article. You need to be engaged in debatable conversations. For example, consider the debate based around consumer responsibility. Is it the consumers’ fault if they fall into the trap of fast food? Or do we blame the corporations? This is a larger implication that may be applicable to a lot of your foods. Still, this is just one example of potential food related conversations you can enter. There are many more to explore.

This essay must be 5 pages, double spaced, MLA format. You must include a minimum of three sources.

Describe two or more conclusions from biological research of disordered eating behavior. (These may include genes, brain functioning, metabolic, hormonal, etc.)

Background

In psychology, Motivation refers to the forces that push and pull us toward specific goals and behaviors. Motivation is generally either internal (biological, cognitive) or external (environmental, situational). In psychology, the study of Motivation often focuses on biological behaviors, such as eating and sexual expression, or achievement behaviors, such as academics or career goals. Explore the biological and psycho-social aspects of disordered eating behavior by completing the following items.

  1. Based on your assigned readings and videos this module, identify somebiological or genetic factors that may predispose someone to disordered eating behavior. What the advantages to manufacturing and distributing products in small batches rather than pushing its factories to maximize outputs?

For this assignment, use your coursepack to review the case of “Rapid-Fire Fulfillment” by Ferdows, Lewis, and Machuca. In 2–3 double-spaced pages, analyze and address the following issues:

  • What system design has Zara implemented to guarantee a new garment to its 600-plus stores worldwide in a mere 15 days from the design, production, and delivery?
  • What the advantages to manufacturing and distributing products in small batches rather than pushing its factories to maximize outputs?
  • Unlike so many of its peers, which rush to outsource, Zara keeps almost half of its production in-house. How does Zara do this?
  • Would you run your factories just during the day shift as Zara did? Is this any way to run an efficient supply chain? Why?

Project Procurement Management: Running Case

Directions: Complete the two tasks associated with project procurement management. Put all your work on one word document. Separate your tasks by headings and/or page inserts.Remember… turn your work in on a word document as ONE attachment for grading.

Project Procurement Management: Case Study

Senior management at Manage Your Health, Inc. (MYH) decided that it would be best to outsource employee training on the Recreation and Wellness system, which will be rolled out soon. MYH also wants to outsource the incentive program designed to motivate employees to use the system and improve their health. MYH feels that the right outside company could get people excited about the system and provide a good incentive program. As part of the seller selection process, MYH will require interviews and samples of similar work to be presented to a review team. Recall that MYH has more than 20,000 full-time employees and more than 5,000 part-time employees. Assume that the work would involve several instructor-led training sessions, developing a training video that employees could view from the company’s intranet site, developing a training manual for the courses that anyone can download from the intranet site, developing an incentive program for using the system and improving health, creating surveys to assess the training and incentive programs, and developing monthly presentations and reports on the work completed. The initial contract would last one year, with annual renewal options.
Assignment – Project Procurement Management: 2 Tasks

Suppose that your team has discussed management’s request. You agree that it makes sense to have another organization manage the incentive program for this new application, but you do not think it makes sense to outsource the training. Your company has extensive experience doing internal training. You also know that your staff will have to support the system, so you want to develop the training to minimize future support calls.

Write a one-page memo to senior management stating why you think the training should be done in-house.
Assume that the source selection criteria for evaluating proposals are as follows:
Management approach, 15%
Technical approach, 15%
Past performance, 20%
Price, 20%
Interview results and samples, 30%

Using weighted scoring model template as a guide, create a spreadsheet that could be used to enter ratings and calculate scores for each criterion and total weighted scores for three proposals. Enter scores for Proposal 1 as 80, 90, 70, 90, and 80, respectively. Enter scores for Proposal 2 as 90, 50, 95, 80, and 95. Enter scores for Proposal 3 as 60, 90, 90, 80, and 65. Add a paragraph to the spreadsheet that summarizes the results and your recommendation.

Was it ethical for Normandale to sell the alleged knock-off products at a lower price? Explain.

Mathis, Inc. is a designer and manufacturer of women’s clothing and specializes in high-end women’s winter fashions. Normandale, a retailer, sells high-end products in malls throughout the country. With Mathis’s high costs, Normandale is unable to make a profit from the sale of Mathis’s products.

Countess Lori-Ann (CLA) is a Mathis competitor. Normandale sends photographs and samples of the Mathis line to CLA and instructs them to make an identical line at a lower price. Mathis labels are easily discernable in the photographs and the samples have the Mathis label attached. CLA copies the Mathis line for Normandale.

CLA sells the clothing to Normandale at a low price allowing Normandale to sell the products for a total gross profit of nearly $3 million, an increase of nearly 50% over its sale of Mathis products. Mathis discovers that Normandale is selling counterfeit products, and sends several cease-and-desist letters to them—to no avail. Mathis then sues Normandale alleging Normandale has engaged in illegal conduct. Normandale counters that it did nothing wrong.

  • What are the differing views on the social responsibility of corporations like Normandale?
  • What ethical code could Normandale implement to prevent similar incidents in the future?
  • Do the owners of Normandale have personal liability to Mathis for damages?  Explain.
  • Do the owners of Normandale have personal criminal liability for their conduct and that

Contrast the advantages of utilizing company-owned plants to using a large network of suppliers.

Unit V Case Study

Read case study, “VF Brands: Global Supply Chain Strategy,” on page 437 of your textbook. Once you have read and reviewed the case scenario, respond to the following questions with thorough explanations and well supported rationale.

1. Contrast the advantages of utilizing company-owned plants to using a large network of suppliers.

2. The development of strategic supplier relationships was discussed in the case. Why is this important to both the company as well as to the suppliers?

3. Analyze the strategic growth plan of VF Brands with respect to their acquisitions. Their mission in these acquisitions was to preserve the organizational culture and unique brand identities of these acquisitions. Why was VF Brands concerned about this?

4. Analyze whether VF Brands should expand the “Third Way” sourcing strategy, expand internal manufacturing, or do more traditional sourcing, include your rationale.

Your response should be a minimum of three pages in length double spaced. References should include your textbook plus a minimum of one additional credible reference.

Explain the concept of federalism; use specific examples of federalism and anti-federalism in your posting.

Federalism is the structure where two or more levels of government operate alongside each other with some autonomy, although they have overlapping jurisdiction and specific functions. During the formation of the U.S. Constitution, there were federalist and anti-federalist arguments being made. Explain the concept of federalism; use specific examples of federalism and anti-federalism in your posting.

Which group had the best arguments? Support your argument with examples. Incorporate some of the shifts that took place between both groups (federalists and anti-federalists) to support your response.
