Understanding and Coping with Change

 

Change is everywhere, yet very few people seem to embrace the concept. We are, for the most part, creatures of habit and follow daily routines. When change occurs, our activities and thought patterns are disrupted.

 

Write a four- to five-page APA formatted paper (excluding the title and reference pages), using a minimum of three scholarly sources in addition to the textbook, analyzing the internal and external factors contributing to an individual’s resistance to change.

 

Describe a situation where you or someone you know was resistant to change as identified in one of following areas:

Self-interest

Lack of understanding

Lack of trust in management

Differing assessments of the need for change

Low tolerance for change

Explain whether the resistance to change was caused by an internal or external factor. Using Kotter’s theory for change, provide a plan for overcoming that resistance. What will be done and how will you know that the plan has worked?

The courts often generate change in many aspects of society including public schools. The following are cases that significantly impacted public education.

2. The following cases are directly related to school finance. You are to prepare a mini-brief on each including Citation (name of the case), Issue, Decision and the impact of that decision.

3. Read text on the Florida Adequacy suit and write 2 or three sentences on the issues.

The use of public funds in non-public schools has always been a hot topic. The courts have given direction in this matter. As a public school administrator it is important to be informed in this area.

   3. C. Lemon v. Kurtzman (memorize the 3 prongs of the Lemon test-it will serve you well).

2. You are reading a literature review written by a novice researcher in your field. You notice that the researcher seems to have relied heavily in the Internet in preparing the literature review. Your hunch is supported when you glance at the reference page and find a long list of web addresses. What goes through your mind regarding the quality and adequacy of the literature review in this situation?

3. Sometimes students believe that taking the time to prepare a complete and carefully design research proposal is something to be preached, but not really practice. Identify at least two different problems related to research design that are commonly encountered when doing research and for each explain how a complete and detailed research proposal would help the researcher avoid the problem.
