Imagine that you are an office manager and you have been tasked with the job of coordinating and heading the dismissal meeting for an employee layoff.

Write a five-to seven-page financial statement analysis of a public company, formatted according to APA style.   In this analysis you will discuss the financial health of this company with the ultimate goal of making a recommendation to other investors.   Your paper should consist of the following sections: introduction, company overview, horizontal analysis, ratio analysis, final recommendation, and conclusions.  Your paper needs to include a minimum of two scholarly resources in addition to the textbook as references.

Here is a breakdown of the sections within the body of the assignment:

Company Overview

Provide a brief overview of your company (one to two paragraphs at most).   What industry is it in?   What are its main products or services?  Who are its competitors?

Horizontal Analysis of Income Statement and Balance Sheet

Prepare a three-year horizontal analysis of the income statement and balance sheet of your selected company.  Discuss the importance and meaning of horizontal analysis.  Discuss both the positive and negative trends presented in your company.

Ratio Analysis

Calculate the current ratio, quick ratio, cash to current liabilities ratio, over a two-year period.   Discuss and interpret the ratios that you calculated.  Discuss potential liquidity issues based on your calculations of the current and quick ratios.  Are there any factors that could be erroneously influencing the results of the ratios?  Discuss liquidity issues of competitive companies within the same industry.

Recommendation

Based on your analysis would you recommend an individual invest in this company?  What strengths do you see?  What risks do you see?  It is perfectly acceptable to state that you would recommend avoiding this company as long as you provide support for your position.

Writing the Final Paper

1.   Must be five to seven double-spaced pages in length, and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

3.   Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.

4.   Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.

5.   Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.

6.   Must document all sources in APA style.

2.  Social Movements and Technology

 

In contemporary society (2000-present), social movements or uprisings do not need to occur in person. Many have been promoted and fought on the Web. Technology can provide a voice for those who would otherwise not able to express themselves.

 

How important is technology in countries that have limited freedom of assembly? Have you ever been in a social movement that was based on an electronic network? If so, describe the importance of technology to the movement’s goals. Based on your answers to the previous questions, explain how to be a force for positive change in the world?

I need to write a 4 pages application paper about one specific subject in theater art production (Stage craft). • Review the business writing PowerPoint (attached); we’ll finish it up the deck next class along with a discussion/explanation of other tips and techniques (e.g. rubric #7 call to action; rubric #9 parallel construction). Many of the guidelines should already be familiar to you from your presentation work (substance vs. “chapter headings,” feature-benefit-proof, etc.), and you now can begin to apply these best practices to your writing.

  2. Pay close attention to the basic design and format instructions right from the start. That way, you’ll have a good sense of what “one page” entails. In addition to being common business writing standards, these requirements (font, font size and other instructions noted on the rubric) help ensure a level playing field for this assignment. Using a font other than Times or Times Roman, for example, could give you more space or less space on a single page than your peers would have. The word “chunks” refers to sections of a memo — whether it be the intro paragraph (with or without bullet points), different subhead sections, the concluding paragraph, etc.

  3. While slide 49 in the PowerPoint uses bullet points in the opening BLOT “chunk,” you are not locked into that approach. You may choose to write your opening section in narrative paragraph style and use the required 3 to 6 bullets elsewhere. We’ll discuss other bullet uses in class on Wednesday, which may or may not be more appropriate depending upon your specific content.

  4. Make sure you keep up with all the reading that apply to this business writing assignment: SEC Plain English Handbook, with particular attention to chapter 6, and OC text, Appendix 11: Business Writing (Note: pages 123 to 129 are obviously most pertinent; a quick reading of the rest of the chapter should suffice.)
