One of the best ways to understand many of the concepts within social psychology is to examine real-world examples. The Key Assignment will be to discuss 1 such example (described below), and then explore the various social psychology concepts that are evident throughout the case.

 

 

 

A young Mexican-American man and his wife recently relocated to an upscale neighborhood in the suburbs of Chicago. Although the man speaks with a strong accent, he is fluent in English. The man works for a corporation in the area, and his family makes the average income for those living within that region of the state. Unfortunately, while looking for an apartment to rent, the man has two encounters with potential landlords that leave him feeling frustrated and discriminated against. Upon meeting with the man in person, both landlords denied the man the ability to rent from their facilities. Upon returning to his wife after these encounters, the man complained about the “crooked and underhanded” landlords that he had met as well as the possibility of filing a formal complaint.

What societal factors may have caused the U.S. Supreme Court to abandon the rule of stare decisis in the Lawrence v. Texas and Bowers v. Hardwick cases?

Write a 5–6 page paper on the topic above and include the following:

• Outline the major societal arguments that influenced the U.S. Supreme Court decision in both cases and the subsequent reversal.
• Identify specific examples to support your explanation.
• Examine some of the specific arguments used by the Justices of the Supreme Court in the majority and dissenting opinions.
• Include any philosophical underpinning that might have influenced the thinking of the judges on the court at the time both cases were being decided.
• Use specific references in their paper to support their position.

  • Compare and contrast the crimes of burglary, breaking and entering, and home invasion.

  • In common law, larceny was defined as the taking of another person’s property or the interest in another’s property. Although larceny is still used in many states today, it has been greatly expanded to include other theft expenses.
    • Identify at least 3 related theft offenses that developed from the offense of larceny. Discuss your identified offenses, and provide examples to support your arguments.

Pick 1 event, topic, person, or development from the 16th-18th Centuries. Then pick 1 event, topic, person, or development from the 19th-21st Centuries. Compare and contrast these 2 items. Use the Internet to research one (1) developing nation of your choice. Your research should include an examination of the effects that war and peace have on the distribution of foreign aid, as well as the material covered by the Webtext and lectures in Weeks 1 through 3.

1. Assess the positive and negative effects that peace and war, respectively, have on the distribution of foreign aid in the developing country that you have selected. Support your response with concrete examples of each of the results that you have cited.

You will write 1Journal Article Reviews, which will be based upon your choice of articles from the professional, peer-reviewed journalarticles provided in the Assignment Instructions folder. No outside articles will be accepted. Each Journal Article Review must be approximately 3–5 double-spacedpages (not including the title and reference pages) and must be created in a Microsoft Word document. Use the following guidelines to create your paper:

 

1. Provide a title page in current APA format including only your name, the paper title (referring to the article title), and the institutional affiliation (Liberty University). Keep in mind that current APA recommends that the title length not exceed 12 words. Use the running head in the appropriate place and a page number on every page. Divide your summary into sections with the following Level One headings: Summary, Interaction, and Application (review the current APA Manual for guidance on levels of headings if needed).
2. Develop a summary of the main concepts from the article. Do not duplicate the article’s abstract. If the article describes a research study, include brief statements about the hypotheses, methods, results, discussion, and implications. If any test measures or statistical methods used are given in the article, do not provide detailed descriptions of these. Short direct quotations from the article are acceptable, but avoid long quotations in a paper this size. This section is the foundation of your Journal Article Review (at least a third of your paper). Make sure that you include the core points from the article, even if it means a longer section. 3. In your own words, interact (in approximately 1 page) with the article. Appropriate comments for this part of the paper should include, but are not limited to: your initial response to the article, comments regarding the study’s design or methodology (if any), insights you gained from reading the article, your reasons for being interested in this particular article, any other readings that you may plan to do based upon having read the article, and other thoughts you have that might further enhance the discussion of your article. Your subjective comments in this section must be clearly tied to main points from the article, not peripheral ideas. Again, do not reference any other article.
4. In your final section (in approximately 1 page) write how you would apply the information you have learned from this article to a particular counseling situation. This could be in a church or clinical session. Develop this section as if you are a pastor or clinician and your parishioner or client has come to you with a problem—grief, depression, substance abuse, infidelity, etc.—and is needing your help. Adequately describe the counseling scenario, including the presenting problem. Draw out concepts from the article and apply the concepts to the scenario as if you were guided only by the content of the article. Show the reader how you are expressly drawing from the journal article in this application section; be sure to cite correctly in current APA format.

When building a new organization or when an organization experiences dramatic growth, leaders must determine the structure and culture of the organization. Although the culture will evolve over time and each individual that joins the new organization will leave some imprint on the culture, it is the leaders’ responsibility to define how the organization will look and how individuals will behave.

Prepare a draft document that defines the new organization and addresses the following considerations:

• What type of structure will be best suited to a multinational Internet retailer? Why?
• How would you recommend building a culture that was inclusive of diverse cultures and accommodates highly creative technical staff?

Each state within the United States has its own unique judicial selection process within its own court system.

Using the Internet or Strayer databases, research the judicial selection process for different court systems from different states within the U.S. Court System.

Write a five to eight (5-8) page paper in which you:

1. Discuss the judicial selection process of your state Tennessee. Include, at a minimum, the qualifications and steps that are taken in order to select judges for the different kinds of courts within your specific state.
2. Choose a second state, and describe the qualifications and the selection process for judges within that state.
3. Compare and contrast for both states the qualifications necessary for a prospective candidate to become a judge. Next, identify the steps that the relevant persons / entities need to take in order to remove a judge from office for disciplinary reasons for each state.
