Describe McKinnon in the context of the frameworks and theories of cyber-crime and cyber criminals discussed.

Alleged computer hacker Gary McKinnon of the United Kingdom has publicly admitted to compromising computer systems belonging to NASA and the Department of Defense. Using information from your classroom, additional materials provided by your instructor, and your own independent research, discuss the impact of these widespread intrusions, and comment on McKinnon’s self-proclaimed motivations. Describe McKinnon in the context of the frameworks and theories of cyber-crime and cyber criminals discussed in the classroom. Are the efforts to extradite McKinnon to the United States simply a political stunt, or are they an important precedent in prosecuting international cyber-crimes? Finally, share what you know about computer security and best practices to make recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future. Your submission should be a minimum of four pages in length, and it should conform to APA formatting and citation standards. A title page and reference list (APA style) are mandatory, but they will not count toward the four-page requirement.

Analyze and apply the concepts of freedom versus responsibility and ethical decision making.

Imagine you are a recently-hired Chief Operating Officer (COO) in a midsize company preparing for an Initial Public Offering (IPO). You quickly discover multiple personnel problems that require your immediate attention.

  1. John posted a rant on his Facebook page in which he criticized the company’s most important customer.
  2. Ellen started a blog to protest the CEO’s bonus, noting that no one below director has gotten a raise in two (2) years and portraying her bosses as “know-nothings” and “out-of-touch”
  3. Bill has been using his company-issued BlackBerry to run his own business on the side.
  4. After being disciplined for criticizing a customer in an email (sent from his personal email account on a company computer), Joe threatens to sue the company for invasion of privacy.
  5. One of the department supervisors requests your approval to fire his secretary for insubordination. Since the secretary has always received glowing reviews, you call her into your office and determine that she has refused to prepare false expense reports for her boss.
  6. Anna’s boss refused to sign her leave request for jury duty and now wants to fire her for being absent without permission.

As an astute manager, you will need to analyze the employment-at-will doctrine and determine what, if any, exceptions and liabilities exist before taking any action. As you proceed with your investigation, you discover the company has no whistleblower policy.

In preparation for this assignment, use the Internet or Strayer Library to research your state’s employment-at-will policy.

Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:

  1. Summarize the employment-at-will doctrine discussed in the text and then evaluate three (3) of the six (6) scenarios described by determining:
    1. Whether you can legally fire the employee; include an assessment of any pertinent exceptions to the employment-at-will doctrine.
    2. The primary action(s) that you should take to limit liability and impact on operations; specify the ethical theory that best supports your decision.
  2. Examine your state’s policy on employment-at-will. Analyze at least one (1) real-world example of an employee or employer utilizing your state’s employment-at-will doctrine in the last five (5) years. Include a summary of the main issue and the outcome in the identified real-world example.
  3. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia is not an acceptable reference and proprietary Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Analyze and apply the concepts of freedom versus responsibility and ethical decision making.
  • Analyze and evaluate laws that protect against discrimination in the workplace.
  • Analyze and evaluate the employment-at-will doctrine and exceptions, as well as the protections afforded whistleblowers.
  • Explore the legal and ethical issues surrounding employee and consumer privacy.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in law, ethics, and corporate governance.
  • Write clearly and concisely about law, ethics, and corporate governance using proper writing mechanics.

Identify and evaluating the effectiveness of literacy strategies used by the instructors to support reading in the classroom.

Read the Marzano et al. book (assigned in Module 1) in preparation for the practicum observation, and do a Web search for additional literacy strategies that can encourage literacy growth.

(2)                Identify and evaluating the effectiveness of literacy strategies used by the instructors to support reading in the classroom. Reference strategies from the Marzano et al. book and/or from Web sites utilized for this assignment.

(3)                Create a class/student profile of 1250-1500 words that describes both the class (first) and a student (second) in terms of literacy traits. Address the considerations listed above and interpret what you saw as it relates to the overall literacy and learning process.

(4)                Venn Diagram

(5)                Construct a Venn diagram that illustrates the literacy skills the student demonstrated at the onset of the lessons (intro), those that intersected (through), and those that are left to master (beyond). The time you spend with the student should facilitate this process through an investigation of the student’s prior knowledge and literacy experiences (into), a best practice activity to stimulate literacy growth (through), and an assessment of what future literacy goals should be set. As you work with your student, consider, on an individual level, how fluency, vocabulary skills, and comprehension skills impact learning, how the differences in interacting with expository and narrative text impacts this student’s understanding, whether literature motivates this student, and whether you see evidence of critical literacy in your student’s approach to text.

Take 2 to 3 reasons and explain why these were thought to be a reason for America to once again go to war with Great Britain.

The Paper is to be between 6 and 8 pages in length. Going over the minimum page length requirement is acceptable; however, I am not looking for a 15+ page. Also, you must demonstrate knowledge of how to conduct research. This means you are required to find and use a minimum of 5 scholarly sources (e.g. GMC Textbook, GMC Library, and Google Scholar). All papers are to have an APA title page and an APA reference page. The APA title page and APA reference page do NOT count towards the minimum page requirement! Your body of work needs to be between 6 and 8 pages! Also, you do not need to put your footnotes at the bottom of each page throughout the body of the paper. Instead, you may do the following for this paper: “The War of 1812 was started by America.” (Kucsan, 2009) or (the authors last name). Now if you are using more than one article by the same author then you need to put in the title of the article…such as (Kucsan, 2009, Consequences of the War of 1812). If you are using 2 different works with authors of the same last name then do the following; (Kucsan, P, 2009) Just put in the first initial. General APA Formatting Guidelines: •Font Type: Times New Roman •Font Size: 12 point •Margins: 1 inch on all sides •Spacing: Double-spacing •Justification: Left •Paragraph Indentation: Use the Tab key to indent all paragraphs one half-inch from the left margin.

Identify one of the social work issues/fields of practice included in the first class assessment (Community Resources) that interests you.

Identify one of the social work issues/fields of practice included in the first class assessment (Community Resources) that interests you. If you have an area of interest that isn’t included in the list, check with your instructor for approval first. Then, write a well-researched paper that discusses the issue/field of practice in relation to the following guidelines: Why are you, in particular, interested in this area? What else has been written about this topic? How do dominant worldviews conceptualize this issue/field of practice? What other conceptualizations are there about this issue/field of practice? How do values and ethics relate to this topic? How do power and privilege relate to this topic? How might your inquiry and reflection influence your experiences and interactions after this course is over? Use weekly class readings, class discussions, and additional peer-reviewed articles to support your ideas. I have found that it takes somewhere around 10 pages (double-spaced) to sufficiently complete this paper. You’ll need to have a minimum of 10 references, 7 of which must be peer-reviewed journal articles.

Identify the facts from the scenario which support your decision on whether or not a contract exists for the purchase of the automobile.

Jim and Laura Buyer visit the local car dealership because they are interested in buying a new car. The car they currently have is aging and is starting to have mechanical problems. Jim and Laura would share the new car, and use it to go back and forth to work and school. Before going to the dealership, Jim and Laura decide that they can only afford $400.00 a month in car payments.

Once at the car dealership, Jim and Laura meet Stan Salesman. Stan shows them several vehicles and Jim and Laura test-drive several of the cars. Jim and Laura particularly like the blue 4-door sedan. Therefore, they agree to give Stan Salesman a $100.00 deposit to hold the car for a day. Stan Salesman does not give them the receipt but guarantees that the $100.00 is refundable. No documents were signed.

The next day, Stan Salesman calls Jim and Laura to ask them when they would like to take delivery of the car. Jim and Laura, on the way home from the dealership, decided that they were not going to buy the car because they did not want to spend that money each month. Therefore, Jim and Laura tell Stan salesman that they have decided not to buy the car and request their $100.00 deposit back.

Stan insists that the $100.00 was a deposit on the car and was meant to be part of the contract to buy the car. Stan is very persistent and insistent that Jim and Laura have contracted to buy the car; therefore, the $100.00 will be applied to the purchase price of the car. Jim and Laura are shocked and angry as not only do they not want to spend the money, but now feel as though they are being duped by Stan Salesman.

Jim and Laura have an appointment to see a lawyer in a few days, but know you are a student taking a business law class and come to you for advice. They are very frazzled, and understandably upset that they may have just purchased a car. Since you have been taking business law, you have read and understand the elements of a contract and the defenses to a contract. Therefore, although you are not a lawyer, you provide some basic advice from what you’ve learned in your business law class.

In three to five (3-5) pages, advise Jim and Laura based on the above facts as presented, the material provided in the text, and material covered in the lecture. In your paper, be sure to address the following:

Define the elements of a legal contract using examples from the scenario where applicable.
Decide whether or not there was a contract for the purchase of the automobile.
Identify the facts from the scenario which support your decision on whether or not a contract exists for the purchase of the automobile.
Use at least two (2) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as quality academic resources.
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
