The core assignment of this course is a documented research paper (1500-2000 words in length = approx. 6 – 8 pages double spaced, 12-point font).

• The essay should support a thesis statement with information gained from research or investigation.
• The paper will not be just a report presenting information, but will be an essay that carefully examines and presents your own historical interpretation of the topic you have chosen and your interpretation of the information you have gathered.
• The paper may include consideration of problems and solutions, define key terms, or refute arguments against your thesis statement.

It will be important to choose a topic of interest to you.

• Approach this assignment with an open and skeptical mind, then form an opinion based on what you have discovered.
• You must suspend belief while you are investigating and let the discoveries shape your opinion. (This is a thesis-finding approach.)
• Once you have found your thesis, write the paper to support it.

You will use some of the following critical thinking skills in this process:

2. Gathering information, summarizing sources
3. Analyzing and evaluating sources

Because this may be a longer essay than you have written before and a complex process is involved, it is recommended that you complete this paper using the following steps:

1. Choose a topic related to U.S. History after 1877 (Chapters 16-28) that you would truly like to explore and that you are willing to spend some time on. Your chosen topic should be focused. Pose a question that you really want to answer. You may want to begin with more than one topic in mind.
2. Do some preliminary reading on the topic(s). You may begin with the textbook, then further explore the information available. Refine your topic. Summarize your topic, your interest in the topic, the questions you want to answer, and a hypothesis you want to test.
3. Gather information from a variety of sources. Use a minimum of four sources for your paper, and at least one must be a primary source.
   • Examples of primary sources are ones that are used in our discussion forums 2 – 8.
   • They are sources that are contemporary to the times under investigation.
   • An example of a secondary source is our textbook, though the textbook also contains excerpts of primary sources, which you may use as a source in your essay.
4. Outline the results of your research and then plan for your essay (note you are not required to submit the outline).
5. Write the final draft and be sure to include a Works Cited List; be sure to use the correct MLA documentation style.

You are being asked by your boss to evaluate investing in natural gas transportation. Starting with the Integrative Cases at the end of each section of the text you will submit three papers . Each paper must be submitted in hardcopy (double spaced) and use the following format:

a. Your boss wants you to be concise. No more than Three (3) pages.

b. Put your name and case number at the top of each page

c. Back up your analysis with solid sources

2. Case 2. Use the case on page 304. Again this case was written in 2010-2012. The case predicts a major infrastructure project. Is it happening? Would you recommend investing in the natural gas highway? What environmental issues have impacted (+ or -) the natural gas highway? Again focus on infrastructure, we’ll take on fracking in the final paper.

Your write-up should also compare and contrast stock analysts’ viewpoints on the financial management of the company. Collect the reports written by stock analysts (or newspaper articles reporting on the analysts’ reports) and their predictions for the company. See if you can find opposing views and include the viewpoint of your group. This part of your write-up should not exceed two pages.

In this assignment you will analyze the organizational behavior of your current or former employer. Describe how the following areas influence the organizational behavior in a negative or positive manner:

1. Type of culture (Pluralism, Dualism or Salad bowl)
2. Modes of communication in the organization (i.e., written or verbal)
3. Nature of authority (i.e., recognized social rank)
4. Motivational techniques (e.g. intrinsic or extrinsic used to influence productivity and performance)
5. Areas of EQ (emotional quotient) embraced by the organization
6. Virtual elements (i.e., teleworking and virtual offices)

Organizational Culture Analysis

Symbols of culture are called artifacts. Artifacts are the most visible and accessible level of culture. These include behaviors, stories, rituals (everyday practices that are repeated frequently), and symbols (e.g., company logos, company colors). For example, the president of a company volunteering at Habitat for Humanity is an artifact of culture. An example of symbols as an artifact of culture is Ashford University’s shield that serves as our logo and is printed on transcripts, diplomas and letterhead paper. Submit a two- to three-page paper (excluding the title and reference pages) describing the culture of either your current or past place of employment.

Your paper should provide examples of and address each of the following topics:

• Observable artifacts
• Espoused values (These are what organizational members say they value, like ethical practice.)
• Enacted values (These are reflected in the way individuals actually behave.)

In addition, describe how each item listed above impacts the values and culture of the organization.

Your paper must use a minimum of two scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook. Your paper must also follow the APA Style guide.

PrepareAs we have been discussing, the mise en scène of a film is the use of a variety of design elements to create the visual theme. 	ReflectLast week, we examined how different lighting styles and choices affected the final impact of a film. This week, we will consider different types and categories of sound at work in film and assess how they contribute to the overall sense of meaning in a film. There are many types of sound in a film. Some are diegetic (sounds that are represented as coming from within the world of the film); others are non-diegetic (sounds that come from outside the world of the film). Your text describes the different categories of sound that fall under those types. What types of sounds, and what categories, are most effectively used in the film under consideration?
	Write (due Thursday, Day 3) Using specific examples from your chosen film, construct a discussion post of at least 200 words in which you Describe each of the three basic categories of sound (dialogue, sound effects, and music). Explain how the different categories of sound are being used in your chosen film. Assess the impact of sound in establishing the theme. How does the use of sound inform the mood of the scene, or the film overall? Can you identify specific sounds in your film that allow you to infer a particular genre? Write a program that would allow a user to enter student names and Final grades (e.g. A,B,C,D,F) from their courses. You do not know how many students need to be entered. You also do not know how many courses each of the students completed. • Where did the sugar come from? What kind of sugar is it? See questions above on where and by whom was it grown.
• What ingredients are in your bagel? Where do the ingredients come from? Where is the bagel made?
• Where is your peanut butter made? Where were the peanuts grown? By whom? Are there additives?
