Imagine that you are a Human Resources Director at a mid-sized company. Recently, concerns have arisen over some unethical actions within the workplace. Various employees have approached you with their concerns, and it is time for you to address them. Compose a companywide email addressing the six ethical guidelines for work. Make sure you are concise yet informative in your approach.

1. Is this e-mail technical or academic writing? Why? What is the most important difference between the two?

2. What are the different parts of an audience in a companywide e-mail? How did you approach dealing with each of their concerns?

We are bombarded by statistical information from a wide variety of sources every day. A lot of the statistical research performed in the world is conducted with a great deal of integrity, validity, and reliability. However, many statistical studies are—intentionally or unintentionally—plagued by bias.

As a member of society, and as a consumer, it is prudent to develop the skills that are necessary to critically examine reported statistical claims.

Review this module’s readings to better understand the credibility of statistical studies. Next, conduct an Internet search to find a study whose statistical results have been published in a public forum. Then, apply the guidelines to critically analyze the content, design, and reported results of a statistical study. Do the following to complete this assignment:

What was the goal, population, and type of study?
Who conducted the study?
Is there any bias in the study or the samples used? If so, describe.
Are there any problems in defining or measuring the variables of interest? If so, describe.
Are there any confounding variables? If so, describe.
Are the results presented fairly? How did you make that determination?
Is the study’s conclusion reasonable? How did you make that determination?
Are the results practical? How did you make that determination?

Write your initial response in a minimum of 200 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

 

Do you agree with your peers’ identification of bias in the study? Are there other sources of bias to consider?
Based upon the peers’ analysis, and your review, would you accept the conclusion of this study? Why or why not?

What tools does the Federal Reserve have to pursue monetary policy? Which tool does it use most?

Discuss what challenges an HR department may face when their company decides to expand into other countries. Do you think it would be beneficial if the company that is expanding is already affiliated with an international union? How would it affect the challenges that HR is already faced with?

Use the Internet or Strayer databases to research information related to the budgeting processes within the various types of health care organizations. Next, determine the most-effective budgeting approach for a hospital, indicating how this approach can lead to effective financial management of the facility. Provide support for your rationale.

• Assume that you are an administrator for a hospital, and you need to acquire a new technology system so that you may comply with regulatory requirements. Create an argument to be presented to the leadership team in which you justify the need for your facility to invest in this new technology. Then indicate the value to the organization and provide support for your argument.

This week, you begin writing your journal entries. This journal is designed to give you practice in academic writing, which is very different from the personal essay writing that you have been practicing. Academic writing entails making a point and supporting that point with information from a reputable source. There are three ways to support a point with information from a source: quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing. This week, you will practice quoting a source and citing that source in your journal entry. Please be sure to read and review the “Example Journal Entry – Quotes” document, which describes how to integrate quotations.

Both of the personal essays we have read this week, “Sister Flowers” and “I Want a Wife,” use narrative and/or descriptive elements (refer to sections 6.3 and 6.4 in Essentials of College Writing), and each has a clear purpose.

Unit III PowerPoint Presentation Open Source Software Research Project Research an open source software project. Examples of open source projects are listed on page 123 of your textbook. You are not restricted to the open source projects listed on page 123; you may research one of your own choosing that interests you. In MS PowerPoint, create a presentation with slides that describe the open source software and how it works. Discuss the role this open source software has in management information systems. Remember, management information systems is the management and use of information systems that help organizations achieve their strategies (page 10 of your textbook). Your PowerPoint must have a minimum of four slides. Be sure to use the 7X7 rule in PowerPoint: no more than 7 lines per slide and no more than 7 words per line. Use of images, graphics, and diagrams is encouraged. Be sure to include your sources on a references slide in APA format.

In a seven- to eight-page paper (not including the title and references pages),

1. Include a revised version of your introduction, research question, background research, hypothesis, research design, sampling plan, secondary data plan (if applicable), measurement scales (if applicable), observation plans (if applicable), survey plans (if applicable). These revisions must be based on the feedback from your instructor about these sections in Week Four.
2. Describe your plans for analyzing your data (e.g., content analysis, statistical analysis, etc.) and your plans for how you will present your results.
3. Include an APA-formatted references list.

Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
