Assume that your project has started to slip dramatically. Let’s further assume that the project deadline is fixed and can’t change. Your project currently has one developer working on module of code with 21 day duration on the critical path. You are desperate to shorten this timeframe and you are considering adding a second resource to this activity but, the resource does not have all the right skills and he might work five days just to reduce the overall time by two days. From an economic perspective is this a good move? Why?

Gold plating is what we call it when the project team does work on the product to add features that the requirements didn’t call for, and that the stakeholder and customer didn’t ask for and doesn’t need. Is this a good practice from an economic perspective? Why?

What is the difference between project managers who considers themselves implementers of others solutions versus project managers who view themselves as the CEO of a small business?

Few CEOs have been subject to as much criticism and attacks as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Most famously, he was portrayed as the villain in the move The Social Network. Shareholders have complained about his leadership and failure to increase the stock price of Facebook, and others have claimed he is socially inept and too young and immature to be a CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation.

However, in spite of this criticism Zuckerberg is unarguably one of the most successful CEOs and entrepreneurs in corporate history. His small project that he created while he was a college student has become world dominant in the social media business and is still growing and expanding. So in spite of all of the criticism he clearly has been a successful leader.

For this assignment, do some research in the online library and find out what you can about Zuckerberg’s leadership style. Take a look at both the criticisms as well as what you think he is doing right or what lead him to his strong success.

Ethics Program Implementation

As you can see by your reading, a lot of energy goes into the implementation of an organizational ethics program. And Lockheed Martin has clearly allotted considerable resources to assuring their program is successful.

In this assignment we’ll be focusing on what the company did to assure the the implementation of a successful program that was flexible enough to accommodate the changing needs of the organization.

Assignment Overview

In this assignment you will be asked to consider the role of a Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer. Many large corporations have such an individual who provides leadership and oversight to the company’s business ethics related endeavors. Recall that Lockheed Martin has such an executive level position. However, not all companies have such a position. In this assignment you will be asked to discuss the role of the Ethics Officer and to do some additional research to consider what smaller organizations might do with respect to providing leadership in the area of organizational ethics.

Assignment Instructions

In this assignment please provide a short overview of your reading and describe the role of the chief ethics (and compliance) officer. Not all companies can afford to have somebody at the executive level overseeing organizational ethics.
