4. Project Experience

Please use this section to recount your project experience by answering the questions given in the template.

Describe how you would correct the design issues with the system to make the restaurant managers happy.

Case Study : Security

A large, fast-food chain unveiled a new touch screen register for its franchises. Each cashier was assigned a user id and password combination to log in to the register. The system allowed the incorrect password to be entered four (4) times before the register would lock and require a manager to unlock it with a key card. To prevent unauthorized access, the registers would lock after three (3) minutes if the screen was not touched. When the register locked, only the cashier who was logged in prior to it locking could unlock it without a system restart.

After a few days in operation, restaurant managers started complaining about the amount of time they were spending unlocking the registers. Some cashiers were forgetting their user Id and password, so other cashiers would log in for them. It also seemed that the button layout made it easy for the cashiers to key in the incorrect password. The managers also complained that cashiers would leave for a break or end their shift and forget to log out of the locked register. The managers would have to reboot the system, a three to five (3-5) minute process in order for the next cashier to log in. Additionally, managers noticed that grease was building up on the touch screens, making them less responsive.

Write a five to eight (5-8) page paper in which you:

Analyze the new system and determine the design issues with this new system.

Describe how you would correct the design issues with the system to make the restaurant managers happy.
Create a design plan that:
Lists and explains the tasks associated with improving this interface.
Contains at least six (6) tasks.
Includes realistic time estimates for each task to be completed.
Analyzes the development of the system in your plan.
Analyzes the testing of the system in your plan.
Analyzes the implementation of the system in your plan.
Examine how this system balanced security and usability, and explain the challenges of incorporating system security and system usability into a design.
Suggest changes that could be made to the security of this system to still meet security objectives but make the system more usable.
Use Microsoft Visio or an open source alternative, Dia, to create a graphical representation of your proposed interface. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
Include charts or diagrams created in Excel, Visio, MS Project, or one of their equivalents such as Open Project, Dia, and OpenOffice. The completed diagrams/charts must be imported into the Word document before the paper is submitted.

Discuss the significance of religion and government on other characteristics of the country’s culture.

Select a country from the following list, and do some research into both the political history and the religious history of the country:

Japan
North Korea
Iraq
Syria
Afghanistan
Egypt

Write an essay in which you complete the following:

Explain the general evolutionary lines of both the governmental and religious cultural histories of the country, giving probable reasons for evolutionary trends that you see.
Analyze the ways in which the two lines of cultural tradition—government and religion—interact with each other. What influence does one have over the other?
Discuss the significance of religion and government on other characteristics of the country’s culture.
What influences and impacts do you see on the overall culture, both social and business, of the religious and political interactions?
What have been the primary influences on the people and their culture?
How do you think recent events affecting the people of the country have their roots in what you have learned about historical cultural trends in religion and government?

It is not necessary to follow APA document format, but you must use APA reference and citation format, for the sources you use to support your explanations and arguments.

Discuss the process by which the patient in the case study is referred through the healthcare system from primary care to tertiary care and rehabilitation.

The discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week based on the course competencies covered.

To support your work, use your course and text readings and also use outside sources. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates. Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion.

Radical Mastectomy

This week, your case for review is about a radical mastectomy. Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research about the healthcare insurance, facility, and provider practices involved in the care of patients suffering from radical mastectomy.

Based on your readings and research, answer the following:

  • Discuss the process by which the patient in the case study is referred through the healthcare system from primary care to tertiary care and rehabilitation. What parts of this process works well and what can been improved?
  • What is the significance of the patient’s payer in determining her care?
  • Do you feel that the patient’s referral from primary care to specialty care is handled appropriately? If no, why not?
  • What is the role of Telemedicine in this week’s case study?

In your discussion, be sure to use the new vocabulary that is relevant to the topic.

Discuss interrogation tactics that lead to false confession, specifying at least two examples and explain the reason they are considered coercive.

ou are a forensic psychologist working with Forensic Consultants, Inc. An attorney is using your services as a consultant in a case. During a meeting with the attorney, the attorney tells you that the client, while undergoing police interrogation, confessed to murder. When the attorney asked the client, the client reported to being not guilty.

As you conduct a preliminary investigation, draw up a plan on how you will assist your the attorney with this case. The plan should answer the following questions posed by the attorney:

What specific factors about police interrogative tactics do you think will be important to the defense strategy? Discuss interrogation tactics that lead to false confession, specifying at least two examples and explain the reason they are considered coercive. Include information about how this would look in an actual interrogation and how the client experienced this behavior.
Will you look for any specific personality characteristics in the client? What are they and why will they help or hurt your case? Are issues of competency going to come up? Discuss information about what types of people are more at risk with coercive interrogation tactics. Include at least one research study that has demonstrated this risk.
What type of personality assessment instrument will you want to use to either identify or rule out the characteristics listed in question 2? Be specific and support your answer: Identify at least one psychological test that can be used and include information on why it would be useful in determining whether a person was vulnerable.

Based on the client’s response to police interrogation, how should you conduct your interview? Specifically, what should you avoid when attempting to gather accurate information from the client?

Create a presentation to give to the attorney. You will need to explain each of your arguments. You should expect to have 30 minutes to present your arguments. You should include detailed speaker notes to assist in your presentation. Please make sure to have at least 12 slides for review besides a title slide and a References slide. Each slide should be thoroughly referenced and cited based in psychological research, using APA formatting.

Describe four forms of communication used in the work environment. Discuss the benefits and concerns with each communication method.

Effective Communication in the Workplace

Organizations work to improve overall written and verbal communication to encourage a win-win situation for improved patient or customer care, increased team motivation, and supportive management. Effective communication encourages active listening among people and improved understanding of a situation embracing both similarities and differences in each employee. Let’s read the following scenario to emphasize the importance of effective communication in a workplace.

You are the keynote speaker to improve overall communication effectiveness in your organization. Your presentation consists of 12–15 Microsoft PowerPoint slides (not including the title and reference slide) along with speaker notes. You are addressing an audience comprising all department heads and management staff.

Your overall focus is on common communication problems, various methods of learning, issues with feedback, and improving overall attitude through communication.

Address the following areas including detailed speaker notes. The speaker notes area is the white space below the slide where you can type information similar to a Microsoft Word document. Your Microsoft PowerPoint presentation consists of professional color slides, with detailed speaker notes to include examples to support each slide.

  • Describe four forms of communication used in the work environment. Discuss the benefits and concerns with each communication method. For example, body language, written, oral, and e-mail.
  • Describe four methods of learning and listening. How does a person learn (auditory, visual, etc.) if he or she has a preferred method? How can the person adjust to learning in ways not in his or her preferred method?
  • What environmental and personal barriers hinder communication? Be specific and provide at least three examples.
  • What impact can diversity in the work environment have on effective and ineffective communication according to age, gender, cultural, or religious diversity?
  • What three errors do managers commit when providing ineffective feedback?
  • Describe three issues managers and team members face if they are not prepared to provide instant communication? What negative result can occur if one is not prepared?
  • Describe four methods to overcome communication barriers and provide detailed examples.
  • Provide three key elements with specific examples on how effective communication can reduce errors, improve professional relationships, and assist staff with clear communication.

Note: Ensure slides are professional in appearance, color contrast, and font. Provide references in APA format. Use correct spelling and grammar. Speaker notes below the slides should contain substance.

Support your responses with examples.

What media will you choose to communicate through over the next several months?Explain.

Managing Change

You are the chief operations officer (COO) of a Fortune 1000 company, and your company is preparing to implement a major change in standard operating procedures in the next six months. This is an initiative that you have personally spearheaded over the past year and one which you know—while extremely valuable to the company and its employees in the long-term future—will almost certainly elicit a lot of initial unhappiness, anxiety, uncertainty, and push-back from both customers and employees of the organization—especially if the key components of the change initiative are communicated carelessly.

Think about the communications problems you face as the COO—right now, over the next six months, and for up to a year after the change is implemented. What will you have to do to ensure that your message is well-received and clearly understood by both external and internal customers (employees)? What media will you choose to communicate through over the next several months?

After considering this problem at some length, please draft an email to your chief executive officer (CEO) in which you sketch out the plan and describe your communications strategy.

Your well-written paper must adhere to the following parameters:

3 pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Both your analysis and draft email to the CEO must be included.
