In this assignment, you will build upon the two (2) challenges that you had identified in Assignment 2, Question 4.

Use the Internet or the Strayer Library to research articles on public agencies or non-profit organizations for which your proposed challenges may not be considered actual challenges.

Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:

1. Propose two (2) ethical concerns that management may need to address. Create the context in which such concerns may or may not be ethical in nature. Provide a rationale for your response.
2. Analyze the overall manner in which organizational structure impacts organizational ethics. Select one (1) public agency or one (1) non-profit organization in which your challenges may not be considered actual challenges. Provide a rationale for your response.
3. Use the Inventory of Public Management Skills Management, located on pages 11 to 12 of the textbook, to construct a self-evaluation. Assess your level of development in each of the skills. Propose two (2) to three (3) activities that would help you to improve the skills in question.
4. Use the results of your self-evaluation and recommendations from Question 3 to formulate a response to the challenges that you have presented that creates a win-win situation for the organization, the employees, and the public. Predict two (2) potential obstacles to success and two (2) plans to overcome such obstacles.
5. Include at least four (4) academic references (no more than five [5] years old) from material outside the textbook and no more than one (1) governmental Website. Note: Appropriate academic resources include academic and governmental Websites, scholarly texts, and peer-reviewed articles. Wikipedia, other wikis, and any other Websites ending in anything other than “.gov” do not qualify as academic resources.

You are an investigative reporter for a large news network. You are working on a news piece identifying how theories of crime explain specific crimes including the demographics of perpetrators and victims. Based on your research, develop a presentation that addresses the following:

• Define the crime. Include both the legal definition and others as necessary.
• Summarize demographics of the crime for both the perpetrators and the victim. Be sure to cover the following:
  • Gender
  • Ethnicity
  • Socioeconomic characteristics
  • Other relevant diversity issues
• Choose two theories of the causes of crime that have been discussed and analyzed so far in the course; apply those theories to the selected crime. Be sure to cover the following:
  • Explain the type of each theory in detail.
  • Discuss the development of each theory and the main theorists associated with them.
  • Compare and contrast the two theories of crime selected. Discuss the ways in which they fit with the crime and the specific demographics associated with the crime.
• Based on your research, develop your own hypothesis of the cause of this crime. Using the theories that you have chosen, you can develop your own “combination” theory.
• Give valid reasons and scholarly, peer-reviewed sources in support of your theory.

You are allowed to present your theory in first person; however, be careful not to abuse this privilege.

Your presentation should include the following:

• A title slide and a reference slide (these will not count towards the total number of slides).
• At least five sentences of speaker notes for each section to clarify anything not included in the slides. (As this is a presentation the slides should cover the main points and the details should be covered in the speaker’s notes.) The speaker notes should be properly referenced.

According to the textbook, ongoing challenges in the global business environment are mostly attributed to unethical business practices, failure to embrace technology advancements, and stiff competition among businesses. Imagine that you have been appointed as Apple’s Chief Compliance Officer and must prepare a video presentation for Apple’s suppliers regarding Apple’s Supplier Code of Conduct to deliver via a web meeting. To prepare for your presentation, review Apple’s Supplier Code of Conduct, located athttps://www.apple.com/supplier-responsibility/. Next, use a tablet, smartphone, laptop, desktop, or traditional video recorder to record a maximum of a five to seven (5-7) minute dynamic video on Apple’s Code of Conduct. Alternatively, you may submit a four to six (4-6) page paper instead of the video submission.

In addition to the recorded video, you must also create a presentation using PowerPoint (or other equivalent software) summarizing the important changes and explanations regarding the code of conduct that you communicated in your video presentation to email to the suppliers after the meeting for future reference.

You must submit both parts of the assignment to receive full credit.

You may want to upload your video to a file sharing service, such as Dropbox, if your email will not let you send a large video file. Part 1: Video Presentation OR Paper

Prepare and present a video that is a maximum of five to seven (5-7) minutes OR write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

1. List specific changes that Apple has made to its Code of Conduct in recent years. Provide at least one (1) example of each change.

Your PowerPoint presentation must follow these formatting requirements:

You are about to start a business (you pick the type of business). For your second “paper”, you will actually be writing a grant proposal. In a grant proposal there are three main ingredients:

 

1. WHY is this research important?

You need to convince the funding agency that your research is worth the money they will give you to conduct it. What will your research contribute to the world? Does it investigate a solution to a known problem? Does it try to identify a tricky problem that is not yet totally quantified? Does it use a new methodology to investigate an old problem? This part of your proposal should feel like you are justifying to the general public why their tax dollars should be spent on your work.

 

2. WHAT research is already done and will be done?

You need to briefly, but adequately, describe the current state of affairs and then point out the specific hole that you are going to fill. This will be a very condensed version of your review paper, so you will need to work on picking out the most important aspects of what has been done before. What is important will entirely depend on what you are proposing to do. For some proposals you might focus on theories, for others you might focus on methods, and for others still you might focus on results. Consider the future end result of your research and then use that end result to inform what you should discuss beforehand. DO NOT get bogged down in tiny details!!

 

3. HOW are you going to conduct your research?

The bulk of your proposal will be describing the set of experiments you are going to conduct in order to fulfill your research mission. You should describe TWO experiments that will address your specific research question. For EACH experiment, you should make sure to (1) specify the research question for that experiment, (2) describe the methods you will use to study the question, (3) briefly describe how you will analyze the data, and (4) describe (or visually depict) the expected results.
