Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of deficit spending and the effects of federal government borrowing on the economy i.e., the “crowding out” effect.

During the Great Recession, like any other economic downturns, as unemployment rises, aggregate income declines causing a major decline in tax collections. On the other hand, with the rise in unemployment, spending on safety net programs rise. So, there are not too many good options available to resort the health of the national economy.   It will be very difficult to defend cuts in the federal government programs and especially the programs geared to sustain the minimum of the standard of living for the recent “poor.” So, government needs to increase its borrowing. Deficit spending refers to government spending exceeding what it brings in federal income and corporate taxes during a certain period. Deficit spending hence increases government debt. Most economists accept that deficit spending is desirable and necessary as part of countercyclical fiscal policy. In such a case, government increases its borrowing and hence its deficit to compensate for the shortfall in aggregate demand. This is derived from Keynesian economics, and has been the mainstream economics view.   Following John Maynard Keynes, many economists recommend deficit spending to moderate or end a recession, especially a severe one. When the economy has high unemployment, an increase in government purchases creates a market for business output, creating income and encouraging increases in consumer spending, which creates further increases in the demand for business output. (This is the multiplier effect).  This raises the real gross domestic product (GDP) and the level of employment and lowers the unemployment rate. Government borrowing under such circumstances increases the demand for borrowing and thus pushes interest rates up. Rising interest rates can “crowd out” (discourage) fixed private investment spending, canceling out some of the demand stimulus arising from the deficit

10.4 1-Using this Climate and Energy Policy page, identify the organization that created this video, explain their stated position on the topic of climate change, and then describe the extent to which you believe this stated purpose affects their credibility.

2-This video asserts that those who believe in climate change are claiming that the earth is on fire, the planet is dying, and it’s our fault for living. Explain how this characterization of the opposing side is arguably an example of the “straw man” fallacy.

3-At one point in the video, the narrator says, “Are the people who say they want to save the planet finally going to tell you that many times the only thing that’s green about their solutions is the money lining the pockets of corporations heavily invested in so-called “green” technologies? And are they going to admit that the cost of force-feeding these technologies into every aspect of our lives could bankrupt a world already teetering on financial ruin?” Explain how these function as loaded questions.

1-Using this About Us page, identify the organization that created this video, explain their stated position on the topic of climate change, and then describe the extent to which you believe this stated purpose affects their credibility.

2-While this is a video about climate change, the beginning and end of the video spend time offering evidence that information spreads differently and we are more connected than ever before to support the fairly indisputable argument that the world has changed. Explain how this is arguably an example of the fallacy of the “red herring.”

3-At one point in the video, the narrator talks about industry “funding politicians who deliberately deny the truth” then almost immediately shows Senator Jeff Sessions. Explain how this functions as innuendo.

4-In addition to presenting verbal claims, both videos use appeals to emotion as persuasive techniques. Reflect on the language, images, and music used in the videos, and then provide one example of an appeal to emotion you see at work in each of the videos.

5-Pay attention to the pronouns used in the videos—”we,” “they,” and “you.” Why do you think the video creators chose to rely heavily on these words? Is there a difference between the way each video uses these same words?

10.6  1-Look at the list of scientists who signed the “No Need to Panic” article and the scientists who signed the “Check with Climate Scientists” article, do a web search on at least three from each article to find out their credentials and backgrounds, and then compare your findings. Do you see any biases that might compromise their objectivity? Explain your answer.

2-The “Check with Climate Scientists” article’s opening argument consists of comparing the scientists writing the “No Need to Panic” article to dentists practicing cardiology. Do you think this is a fair argument or an example of an ad hominem attack and a weak analogy? Explain your answer.

3-At one point in the “No Need to Panic” article, the authors imply that the current state of science is beginning to resemble the time in the Soviet Union when biologists who believed in genes were sent to the gulag or condemned to death. Do you think this is a fair argument or an example of a slippery slope fallacy or a weak analogy? Explain your answer.

4-How do these articles differ in their portrayal of the economic consequences of fighting climate change, and what support does each article provide for their positions?

Explain the concept of financial leverage and analyze how it can affect capital structure decisions.

To expand operations, firms often require more funds than can be generated from operations. These additional funds require a long-term source of capital. There are two primary means of raising the required additional funds: borrowing the funds (bonds), or selling ownership (stock shares). There is a cost to the firm of raising capital using either method. The firm expects to receive a financial benefit from the assets acquired with the raised capital. To ensure the benefit outweighs the cost of the capital, the firm must determine with some accuracy the cost of the capital and compare it to the benefit to be received. Determining the cost of borrowing is straightforward. Calculating the cost of selling shares in the firm is more complex.

Do the following to complete this assignment:

Explain the cost of capital and how it is determined.

Explain the concept of the optimal capital structure and how it can be determined.

Explain the concept of financial leverage and analyze how it can affect capital structure decisions.

Provide an example of a highly leveraged firm and estimate the leverage’s effect when the firm is doing well, and when there is a downturn in sales.

Analyze three (3) advantages and three (3) disadvantages of using a standards-based integration strategy.

The Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) strategy allows businesses and organizations to offer their products and services to customers and trading partners using a standards-based integration protocol. Web Services depends on SOA for delivery. SOA uses Extensible Markup Language (XML) to exchange data and information to its products and services consumers. One of the SOA characteristics is that the integration is loosely coupled, thus simplifying integration.

Write an eight to ten (8-10) page paper in which you:

  1. Analyze five (5) ways in which SOA reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO).
  2. Examine five (5) ways in which using XML enables data and information exchange between clients and servers using Web Services in an SOA environment.
  3. Compare and contrast the loosely coupled architecture to a tightly coupled architecture in terms of TCO, maintenance, and implementation issues.
  4. Analyze three (3) advantages and three (3) disadvantages of using a standards-based integration strategy.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
