Current Events Project

Students will collect 5 news stories (from newspapers or reputable online resources) related to the topics we have covered in class.

Directions:

1. Look through your local newspaper or other, reputable online sources (websites for local news stations, online versions of newspapers, etc.). Select 3 current event articles or stories that relate to a topic we are covering in class. Your selections should be on the same topic.
2. Create a 5-minute Power Point presentation that includes the following information:
3. An overview of the stories you selected – who, what, where, when, etc.
4. What are some of the immediate needs of the people who are involved in these situations?
5. What things to human services professionals need to consider when supporting the individuals in these situations?
6. What support systems are available in the local area that could help the individuals in your news stories?

Important Details:

1. Choose a professional-looking theme.
2. Carefully proofread your work for spelling and grammatical errors.
3. Do not over use graphics. If they apply directly to your article, it is okay to use them.
4. Be sure you provide a link to the source if you are locating your news stories from online resources.

Describe the typical design of a college course and the outcomes that result for students in these courses. In addition, describe a situation in which you found yourself falling into this style of learning.

In Chapter 2, (Hubbard – O’brien-Microeconomics) you learned about the concept of opportunity cost, and the Section 2.1 review video demonstrated this concept. In your initial post, respond to the following:

• Describe various opportunity costs of attending a four-year college (assuming a full-time schedule). Given these opportunity costs, why do people choose a four-year college experience?
• In your own life, what are the trade-offs you face when choosing online classes versus traditional face-to-face classes?

Reaching Your Intended Audience
Assignment Overview

During your Case 2 assignment, you were asked to map out the steps necessary for designing a media campaign. Effective communication strategies are essential to reach your target audience. However, the method needs to match the intended audience. In addition, working under budget constraints can be a daunting task and an area a health educator conducting a communication campaign needs to account for.
Case Assignment

Identify at least 4 different methods to reach an intended audience.
Describe each identified method of reaching an intended audience and provide examples of the method in use, related to a health topic of your choice.
Provide at least 3 different budget strategies a health educator could use when implementing a health communication plan.

Length: 2–3 pages.

Comparative Analysis of Enterprise Systems (Individual assignment)

Students will compare the SAP ECC ERP 6.0 platform with a second ERP system.  Student may use the Microsoft GP 10 platform, available from the instructor, or select another ERP platform including new enhancements to SAP (Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle ERP options, SAP S4 HANA, or others).

 

Students will select one business area on which to focus their analysis.  Using system documentation, online documentation and possibly live systems, students will compare and contrast the use of each system as used in their selected business area.  Students will prepare a paper with their analysis.

 

The paper and the executive summary will be graded for content in the areas listed below.  Papers will use APA style, including citations and references.   Executive summary highlighting major points of each area is limited to one page single spaced.

·         Discussion of SAP capabilities supporting the selected business area

·         Discussion of an alternative system’s capabilities supporting the same selected business area

·         Analysis comparing and contrasting the systems

·         Factors managers should consider when deciding which system should best support a given business environment

 

The paper will include a one page executive summary, which will be shared with the class (a non graded version).

Discussion 6

 

1.       Read: Swanson and Chermack (2013) e-book as well as the American Psychological Association (2010) and Baltes (1987) articles for this week (make sure to cite all of these sources and discuss in the post).

 

2.       Create your own developmental theory on bullying (you may address bullying in a broad sense, or choose an aspect of bullying (e.g., cyber-bullying, school bullying, sibling bullying) to address theoretically).

 

a.       Develop a hypothesis (see below)

 

b.      Create a framework for the theory (see below)

 

c.       Provide research and review research (see below)

 

i.      Research several peer-reviewed articles on bullying . Look for patterns in the data presented in the articles and compile at least three peer-reviewed articles with similar findings on which to build your theory.

·         Hypothesis-Create a purpose statement that defines the phenomenon, identifies the need for better understanding of this issue, and explains human development in the context of bullying trends.

 

·         Framework-Apply the findings within your chosen developmental research articles to the creation of your own research questions and create a hypothesis on bullying behaviors.

 

·         Research Critique-Evaluate the unique scholarly perspectives presented in your research and explain how they support your hypothesis on bullying.

 

·         After creating your hypothesis, you will devise an experiment to test it. Although you will not actually complete the experiment, describe it in detail including the sample, independent and dependent variables, materials needed, procedure, and expected outcomes.

 

·         Analyze any ethical considerations which might affect the viability of your experiment and describe how you would address any ethical concerns regarding the use of your experiment.

Create a script for your verbal portion of the screencast, in which you walk your audience through the important points of your program. Include APA citations within the body of the script. Utilize a screen casting tool of your choice to record a screencast of up to 5 minutes displaying your visual presentation as you read your prepared script. It is highly recommended you practice reading through your script while displaying your visual presentation before recording your final product.
