This is an essay exam and should not be organized like an academic paper. I suggest answering each question with your word processor then carefully proofreading before copy/pasting into the boxes provided. Quote correctly from the texts when necessary to back up your assertions and show your understanding.

Part of what Iam doing here is checking to see if you know how to introduce and comment on quotations, and if you know how to select appropriate quotations that support the point you�re trying to make. Here is a copy/paste from the Virtual Salt website.

1. Introduce your quotations. A quotation should never suddenly appear out of nowhere. Some kind of information about the quotation is needed. Name the author, give his or her credentials, name the source, and give a summary. You won’t do all of these each time, but you should usually name the author. For example:

a. But John Jones disagrees with this point, saying, “Such a product would not sell.”

b. In an article in Time Fred Jackson writes that frogs vary in the degree of shyness they exhibit: “The arboreal tree frogs seem to be especially. . . .”

2. Discuss your quotations. Do not quote someone and then leave the words hanging as if they were self-explanatory. What does the quotation mean and how does it help establish the point you are making? What is your interpretation or opinion of it? Quotations are like examples: discuss them to show how they fit in with your thesis and with the ideas you are presenting. Remember: quotations support or illustrate your own points. They are not substitutes for your ideas and they do not stand by themselves.

It is often useful to apply some interpretive phrasing after a quotation, to show the reader that the you are explaining the quotation and that it supports your argument:

Respond to each question in essay format. Each response should be a minimum of 150 words.

Sub-optimizing goals can create systemic issues within an organization. Explain how this might occur. Keep this short. Think of it as an elevator speech that your might need to provide to an executive – 1 to 2 very precise but not pedantic paragraphs.
Explain the role of data in requirements development. Explain which requirements categories need data and what types of data would be necessary.
Look at the attached diagram. What would the impact be of automating step (A)? What would the ROI be? Explain where you would look for data to support this change and define the exact ROI.

Why is designing an effective organizational structure vital to the success of an organization?
Look at the attached Entity Matrix. Will that class be enough to change physician behavior so that physicians will enter their own patient orders into a computer system? What clues do you see to support your decision? If something more is needed, suggest what else may be needed. Explain your reasoning.

Your paper should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Please include citations to support your ideas.

Findings chapter
Big structural changes needed so the chapter/subheadings reflect the cycles of action research. The findings chapter needs to match the methodology chapter. In the methodology I said that I would look at generating meaning over time as cumulative cycles feed into the next to create the findings through action research process. At this time the findings are static they do not feed into each other and read as if each stage rather than cycle ends with a definite conclusion and does not flow into the next cycle or offer implications for it. Stating the number of people said x does not fit with the methodology. The chapter needs transparency for how the themes were reached and analysed. It must be a self contained chapter that can be understood fully through reading just this and not the rest of the thesis. Signposting is required as to how sources fit together, justification of them and their implications for the next cycle of action research. Analytical coding – tabulation should be in the appendices. The chapter must reflect the phases of action research within cycles of data gathering. Phases are informing each other to reveal themes eg. The first stage focused on x and the data from this generated xx and was used to inform cycle 2 xxx. Reflect on the stages of the research and the sources of evidence. The core purpose of the study is to look at the process to improve practice to uncover understandings. In the introduction to the chapter reflect on the processes and relate stages to action research cycle and summarise. Do not talk about frequency of response as it must match the analysis that I use which is cycles to generate themes. Start by identifying key themes then develop my discussion and link this to literature. Provide headings for all of the tables in the chapter and refer to them in the text. I have groups of quotes must explain how I arrived at these labels. Check the mode of analysis is consistent between chapters. Provide citations when say something is evident from responses of students. Avoid general statements and support all statements with the sources of evidence over time and for initial analysis. Do not use words such as half/most as these are too general and not justified. Explain how all of the points arise and how themes appear over time and across action research cycles. Be specific over what opportunities means especially when used in relation to teamwork. Do not use the words results as it is cumulative over time. Which cycle of the research do points link to? Return to research design and cycles throughout chapter. What determined the choices made? Must be careful that the analysis of how things are reached is not methodological as it is a findings chapter.

Research Assignment Instructions and Rubric

The Research Paper. The research essay is an original essay where the student poses a research question, gathers materials, focuses the research, shapes the argument, and frames the material in relation to the larger themes developed in the course. For this essay, students will pursue their own research interests that build on the issues discussed in the course, as detailed in their annotated bibliography. You should cite sources from a variety of types of texts (books, journals, websites, etc.) with a full works cited page, including any class readings that you use. Your essay should have a clear thesis statement in the introduction, and a clearly flowing argument with sufficient supporting examples, quotes, discussion and analysis. The Research paper should be at least 2500 words in length and include APA style and format with reference/bibliography page.

The science fiction genre reflects the contemporary morals and values of culture and society. Take a story, either a text (short story or novel) or a movie and research the elements of the story that justifies its inclusion in the genre of science fiction. If you have chosen a movie, please be sure to read the book that the movie is based upon so that you can intelligently comment upon the differences between the movie and the book, as we have done with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

What are the “speculative” elements? How closely related to current scientific understandings are the speculative elements? Make the logical connections for your reader. Analyze the story in order to identify the various other genres that contribute to the science fiction. Is there a romance, a coming of age story, a detective, or other genres? What are they, and what role do they play in the story?

If you are using a movie as one of your examples, be sure to include a visual rhetorical analysis of one of its scenes or shots considering the above textual concerns.

What are the cultural assumptions, fears, biases that inform the story’s main themes? Highlight the passages, shots, sequences that develop these concerns and explain how they work to move the story forward. How do these concerns reflect the contemporary concerns of culture and society? Finally, make your own conclusions as to the success of the narrative in representing the possible future or futures.
