Whether managing a non-profit theater group, a global delivery service, or a fast-growing church, all organizations face constraints. The case studies featured in your readings this week are all very different in terms of their size, structure, markets, and goals, yet each could benefit from constraint and paradigmatic analysis as it grapples with complex business problems.

Review the case studies for the week, and select one for this Assignment. Note that all organizations aim to create value, regardless of whether they are for- or non-profit, public or privately held, large or small. Each case describes an organization that seeks to achieve its goals through its operations and initiatives.

For this Assignment, prepare the first draft of a systems diagram, identifying the primary system archetypes that the case describes. Identify the key paradigm-based constraints that prevent subjects in the case study from seeing other options.

Assignment

For the case you selected, complete the following:

Develop robust systems diagrams that capture the system behaviors and outcomes for your client’s organization. Include a 5-Why effect-cause-effect analysis, and a causal loop diagram (CLD) that identifies appropriate system constraints and delays and that also identifies the key system archetypes described in the case. (1 page for the 5-Whys diagram, 1 page for the full CLD).
Write a persuasive, detailed, prioritized description of your findings and make specific recommendations that integrates the analyses you have performed. (1-2 pages, single-spaced)

Identify a current trend in technology for improving global business that is likely to affect a global business within the next 3 years.

Prepare a 1,050- to 1,400-word evaluation of the value or expected effect on a global business that the identified trend will likely have over the next 3 years. An evaluation usually involves judgments based on standards, generally accepted criteria, or benchmarks.

Alternatively, prepare an 8- to 10-slide Microsoft^® PowerPoint^® presentation and script in the notes area of the slides to present or discuss your evaluation.

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: a narrative and a PowerPoint presentation. You must submit two (2) sections for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for.

Imagine that you have just been hired by a new company as the director of the HR department. You have been tasked to hire a new secretary for the department and to develop an employee compensation and benefits package that will be used for that position upon hire. Develop a PowerPoint presentation to present this information to your Vice President. Go to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) Website, located at www.bls.gov, for information regarding organizations and pay in your geographical area.

Section 1: Narrative
Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

Choose the type of organization for which you are designing the package.
Develop an employee compensation and benefits package for this new position. Support your ideas for the compensation/benefits package.
Use at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Comprehensive Case Analysis Guide

 

• Central Issue

Describe the central marketing issue(s)/problem(s) in 3 to 4 sentences.  Also, discuss decision criteria and/or constraints for the analysis and decision making process.

 

• Opportunity/Environmental Analysis

Prepare a table that lists the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats confronting the organization.  Critically present the relative importance of internal strengths and weaknesses as well as external opportunities and threats to organizational success and goal fulfillment.

 

• Alternative Solutions/Strategies

Prepare a detailed description of at least 3 comprehensive and unique alternative solutions/actions for each marketing issue/problem identified for the case.  Discussion of each alternative should not only include a description and the primary advantages and disadvantages of the proposed solution but also should include clear linkages to established marketing concepts and practices.  All elements of marketing strategy should be addressed: target market, product, pricing, promotion and distribution.

 

• Recommended Solution(s)/Strategy(ies)

Identify and then justify the alternative solution/strategy recommended for each marketing issue/problem.  Justification should include relevancy to key internal and external factors as well as to organizational mission, goals and objectives.

 

• Implementation & Evaluation

Discuss how the recommended strategy/solution(s) should be implemented by the organization, including timing, involvement of key stakeholders, and responsibilities of the marketing manager.  Discuss how management will evaluate whether the recommended strategy/solution(s), once implemented, is(are) achieving the desired result(s).  Also, present any likely or anticipated effects on leadership, existing policies or practices, organization culture, organization structure and employee behavior.  Prepare a detailed time-line for implementation.  Assign responsibility for each task.  Include evaluative criteria and/or instruments for assessing the degree to which the implemented strategies/solutions are achieving the desired results.

General Motors (GM) has inserted a technology in many of their vehicles called OnStar. OnStar is a GPS device that tracks data from individual vehicles, such as speed, location, and seat belt usage. In September 2011, it was reported that GM sells this information about their customers vehicles to insurance companies and law enforcement agencies. The use of this technology and the sharing of GPS data can assist law enforcement in the recovery of stolen vehicles. It also was reported, however, that OnStar can continue to collect this GPS data even if the GM customer opts to turn off the OnStar service. Some argue that this is a violation of the right to privacy. Others argue that individuals who buy a vehicle with this built-in technology have given tacit (or implied) consent for the use of the personal information that it obtains.
