hypothesis testing

Create a research question that compares the means of any two populations. Write down the research question. For example, a research question might be whether the mean Graduate Record Exam quantitative score for females is significantly less than the mean Graduate Record Exam quantitative score for males.
Create the correct Ho (null hypothesis) and Ha (Alternative or research hypothesis) to represent your research question. Include the Ho and Ha here. Why does the Ho always have an equal sign?
Suppose you perform the hypothesis test and determine that your p value is NOT less than your alpha value. Given this, write a full conclusion for your research question (assume alpha is .05).
If you incorrectly reject your null hypothesis, what error type would this be and in words what error would you be making in your conclusions?

Pregnancy and High Risk Pregnancy and Nutrition Needs During Lactation

Pregnancy and High Risk Pregnancy
Kim, a 24-year-old female, is 28 weeks pregnant with her first baby. She is 5’7” tall and currently weighs 173 pounds. She walks 30 minutes per day, but it is getting harder. Thus, she walks quite slowly. She had a 3-hour oral glucose tolerance test in which she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. She is in your office and informs you her blood sugars need to be less than 90 mg/dL fasting and less than 120 mg/dL 2 hours post meals. She is having a hard time keeping her blood sugars down 2 hours after a meal. She currently is consuming 3 meals a day, in which she consumes 60-75 grams of carbohydrates. She also has about 4-5 oz. of meat at these meals and a relatively low amount of fat (about 30 grams per day).

1.Based on the fact her blood sugars are higher than 120 mg/dL 2 hours post meals, what recommendations would you have? (Consider the amount of carbohydrates per each meal, protein, and fat, and if you would recommend snacks)
2.Since she is pregnant, what at least 2 micronutrients, include the RDAs, she needs to consume on a daily basis?
3.Would you recommend she continue with her exercise? If so, what alternatives can she do since she has trouble walking?

Nutrition Needs During Lactation

Kim, a 24-year-old female, had her baby and currently is breastfeeding. She worries her baby is not receiving enough milk. She does not want to pump because she heard this may reduce the amount of milk that comes out of the breast and it may confuse the baby when exposed to a bottle and then a breast. She knows she needs to eat more, but wants to lose her pregnancy weight within 6 months; a reasonable goal in her view. She gained 34 pounds during this pregnancy, but was 14 pounds overweight prior to pregnancy. She also was a gestational diabetic, but so far her blood sugars are within normal limits. She continues to take her pre-natal vitamins, but does not know what more she needs to eat to keep her milk up.

1.What nutrients will she need to consume more of during lactation than she did during pregnancy (include the RDAs)?
2.What advice would you have for her to lose the weight, but also keep up her milk with proper diet?

Short Critique 4

English 273 Short Critique Papers Specs

To dig deeper into the process of interpreting literature, write a short paper making an interpretative argument over one of the week’s readings. The goal is to offer your insights, reactions, and interpretations of the meaning and significance of a piece literature. You want to make an arguable claim and briefly explain and support it. These short papers will help you generate ideas for your longer papers and record your thoughts throughout the semester.

Papers will be graded pass/fail. To receive credit, each paper must meet all these specifications:

● Papers are due electronically on Moodle by midnight of the last day of that class week, and must be over the literature for the week; you may not write about the historical introductions, or in-class example readings. Late papers are not accepted unless you use a Token.

● Papers should follow correct MLA formatting for headings, titles, and page numbers.

● Papers must be mostly free of distracting mechanical errors such as subject-verb agreement problems, inadequate proofreading, or incorrect or missing punctuation. There should be few if any serious grammatical errors, such as fragments, run-ons, and comma splices..

● There is no firm length requirement, but you must write at least one healthy paragraph (that’s 4-5 sentences) doing each of the following:

1. Briefly summarize the text by giving a quick overview of the story or poem’s setting, characters, and main plot points. You should cover who the major characters are, what the setting is, what the main conflict is as you see it, and what the resolution is.

2. Offer your interpretation: What themes, oppositions, and/or repetitions are there? In other words, what’s one thing you think the text argues? Be sure to give supporting evidence: what in the text supports your interpretation and backs up your claims? Cite specific passages using the author’s last name and page or line numbers in MLA citation format. No works cited page is needed.

3. Explore possible literary contexts: Do you see any similarities in style or content to other pieces you’ve read in or out of this class? Still nothing? How about movies or TV shows? Or is any historical or biographical knowledge help out here?

4. How would you critique the ideas in the text? Do you agree or disagree–or some of both–with the worldview the text presents? Or are you not sure what to make of it; has the text led you to questions you hadn’t considered before?

Comparative Critique

Choosing from the three shared essays, select one as your target. Using ideas, key terms, examples from the other two texts show your reader something new. Perhaps you might show us that while the target seems to be arguing one thing, it is actually arguing something else. Perhaps you might show us an unresolved contradiction in your target text—the author seems to have elements of their argument that contradict each other. Or maybe you show us a gap in the target’s argument—there is something they have not considered, and if they did, they would need to change their argument. There are many possibilities.

Restorative Justice in Canada (Victimology)

APA or ASA Style
No First-person
8 pages (excluding title page, references)

Please try to use the sources attached in the Research Proposal below:

The purpose of my term paper will be to take an in-depth look at restorative justice relating to victimology. Through both conceptual and empirical research the term paper will explain what restorative justice is, its values and principles in society, the different practices and whether they are effective or not in society, along with challenges restorative justice practices can have. The Prohibition Party to Pure Theory of Law, an encyclopedia said “Criminal behavior upsets the peaceful balance of society, and these different practices help to restore the balance”(Punishment, pg.1). Restorative justice is an important study because the main goal is to make society and the communities we live in better places. Through the research and studying done in the term paper it will give the ability to know whether restorative justice is both effective and a better fit than retributive justice or other practices for societies to follow.
The study will contribute to the efficiency of restorative justice practices. Rodriguez wrote, “Juveniles who successfully completed the restorative justice program were less likely to recidivate than were juveniles in a comparison group.”(Rodriguez, pg.1) Restorative justice allows offenders to take responsibility for crimes they have committed and gives them a chance to be reintegrated into society. Part of the problem with offenders is they don\’t understand their actions hurt the whole community. Dzur said\’ “Restorative justice offers citizens for understanding and owning up to the punishment that is neted out on their behalf are central to restorative justice as a normative theory.”(Dzur, pg.1) These practices are what is working to help society, very similar to what Rodriguez talked about in regards to restorative justice. The term paper will be approached from all angles looking at personal experiences to scholarly sources. Surveys, studies, statistics, interviews, observations and more will all be taken into account. Sources and information will mostly be Canadian based including a review of restorative justice from the Canadian department of justice. The department of justice made findings saying, “Victims and offenders who experience a restorative justice program express high levels of satisfaction”(The Effects, pg.1)
