Anthropologists are interested in framing broad hypotheses about human behavior. In order to do this, it is imperative to use examples from multiple cultures to ensure that their conclusions are not grounded in a single case.

In this assignment, you will be taking on the role of an ethnologist, using multiple ethnographic accounts to study human behavior and culture.

Do the following:

• Identify two to three societies to compare, such as an African society (for example, Ethiopian, Liberian, etc.), Indian, Chinese, Korean, or one of the many Native American groups (for example, the Cherokee, the Inuit, etc.).
• Choose one aspect of human culture discussed in the course:
  • Domestic life and kinship
  • Subsistence and economy
  • Religion
  • Culture change

Using the module readings, Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, write a research paper to include the following:

• Describe the background information of each of the societies you have chosen. You need not analyze this background information, only provide details regarding these societies.
• Analyze the aspect of human culture you selected for each of the societies.
• Compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the societies in relation to the topic you chose—for example, standard of living, education, or employment opportunities.
• Summarize and address human behavior in relation to your topic and based on your examples.
  • Address the realities of life for the cultures you have examined.
  • Examine some of the social problems and public policy issues that become apparent.

Your paper should have a title page as well as an introduction section. This introduction section should include the societies you selected as well as the human culture aspect you will be discussing and why it is relevant to anthropology. As an anthropologist, use relevant anthropological terms in your analysis.

Support your statements with examples and scholarly references.

Write a 4–6-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Topics

Once a topic area has been selected, formulate a research question and supporting hypotheses for approval by the instructor at the conclusion of Week One.

Use your approved research questions and hypotheses to develop research variables and a literature review for submission during Week Two.

During Week Three, Four and Five, conduct research and write a research paper that is between eight pages in length (excluding the title and reference page) and includes the following basic structure.

1. Identify a key issue and explain the supporting research question in Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
2. State one research hypothesis that may answer the research question. You may use one that you formulated for Week One assignment, “Research Project Prep.”
3. Establish research variables for analysis and subsequent confirmation or refute of the research hypothesis.
4. Present results of research informing the proposed research variables. This research must be supported by at least eight legitimate academic resources, five of which can be found in the Ashford Online Library. The course textbook will not be considered for the resource requirement.
5. Analyze the research question and supporting hypothesis.
6. Construct a conclusion of research (results and answer of the research).
7. Include a reference page, which does not count towards the summative assignment’s page total. The reference page should be as long as needed to accurately account for all utilized research materials. Each item of the reference page should be in APA format and include where the reference was located (i.e., Ashford Online Library, Internet, etc.).

The Capstone Research Project must be at least eight pages in length. You must use at least eight scholarly resources, other than the course textbook, to support your thesis. At least five of these resources must come from the Ashford Online Library. All sources must be properly cited in text as well as on the reference page. The Capstone Research Project must be formatted according to APA (6th edition) style. If you would like to refer to APA samples and tutorials, review the APA Checklist within the Ashford Writing Center, located in the Learning Resources tab in the left navigation bar.

 

Part I – Analysis of the External Environment

As part of the Strategic Business Plan, you have been asked to:

• Identify and analyze the major driving forces for change in the external environment of the motorcycle industry.
• Analyze the dynamics of competition using Porter’s Five Forces Model of Competition. Correctly assess the dynamics of competition.
• Provide at least three statistics about the size of the motorcycle industry such as revenue, growth rate, number of units sold by manufacturer/country, etc.
• Summarize the strategic issues firms in this industry face and identify their biggest threats.

This section should be titled “The Analysis of H-D’s External Environment.”

 

Part II – Internal Environment Analysis

Financial

Gather the financial information necessary to do a complete ratio analysis and the Balance Score Card (BSC) key metrics information.

If you were going to create a BSC, what would be the key metrics you would measure in each of the four BSC areas:

• Financial
• Customer
• Internal Business Process
• Learning and Growth

Perform a ratio analysis using H-D’s five-year financial performance. Interpret the meaning of the ratios and financial performance.

This section should be titled “The Analysis of H-D’s Current Strategy: Two Views.” Be sure to include the ratio analysis. You may also include other graphics to support your narrative.

Competitors

Based on your analysis, you must decide which two competitors present the biggest competitive threat to H-D.

Perform a financial ratio analysis for the competitors after looking at trends in financial performance over five years, and compare the trends to industry averages.

Be sure you have a clear ranking of the industries’ competitors.

This section should be titled “Competitor Analysis.” Be sure to include the financial ratio analysis. You may also include other graphics to support your narrative.

Discuss the functions of the following types of federal government bureaucracy, with recent examples of them in action: 1) Government corporations; 2) Independent agencies; 3) Regulatory commissions. Please cite news sources and/or government websites to document your examples of their activities within the last four weeks.

Please use this list to differentiate among organizations. The online text mentions that the EPA is regulatory agency, but it’s actually an independent agency.

The public accounting profession is quite competitive and it is through the effective use of technology that one can maintain a competitive edge. For example, an auditor can usually complete an audit engagement in less time–and be surer of his/her findings–than he/she would be without using technology in his/her audit. This will permit the auditor to charge less for his/her work and to obtain more clients. And, if his/her findings can be supported, he/she will be less likely to experience legal ramifications (from the SEC, from stockholders, and so on).

Discuss some other changes you think will occur in the way financial information is gathered, processed, and communicated as a result of increasingly sophisticated IT.
Discuss several career opportunities available to students who combine a study of accounting with course work in AISs, information systems, and/or computer science. Can you think of other jobs where these skill sets would be desirable?
“When we computerize an AIS, we merely change how the data is processed; we don’t change what tasks are performed.” Do you agree? Give examples to support your position.

Clearly there is a relationship between obesity and lack of exercise and poor diet.  In addition, most philosophers throughout the history of the world have agreed that happiness will, at some point, require meaningful relationships with other human beings.  However, what is not clear about your examples is the difference between causally dependent and causally necessary.  Your definitions almost seem as though these two concepts are interchangeable.  On your view, is causal dependence the same as causally necessary?  Why/why not?
