Embedded

An embedded system is any electronic system that uses a CPU chip but that is not a general-purpose workstation, desktop, or laptop computer. It is a specialized computer system that is part of a larger system or a machine. Embedded systems are used in many places, such as automobiles.

a) What functions would such an embedded system control?
b) What functions of a normal desktop or laptop operating system would NOT be found in such an embedded system?

Be sure to address both questions. And cite your sources. Please do NOT make Wikipedia your primary source. You may use it, but there should be other reputable sources included first.

ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING

During this week you were introduced to a non-Western perspective on organisational learning and how differences that are present lead to different considerations for the creation of knowledge. Make a careful study of the sections in Chapter 32 that discuss the conventional model of organisational learning, the characteristics of Chinese firms, and the learning strategies and processes of Chinese firms. For your Final Project, you will write a detailed report that critically analyses the differences from the conventional model of organisational learning presented in this module and the learning strategies and processes that are prevalent in your region of the world and your own country. The purpose of the report is to provide information to foreign companies that intend to establish operations in your region and your country. You should devote a significant part of your project to providing as much information as possible based on your knowledge and experiences of local business practices, customs, and traditions in order to correct and/or enhance what is offered in the textbook. The aim is to create a formal business report that would help managers in very practical ways to develop an organisational learning strategy for operating effectively with local staff to set up a viable operation in your country. You should consider the areas and organisational learning concepts you have covered throughout the module, for example, the creation of organisational knowledge, social contexts and processes, learning in networks, multinational networks, learning through strategic alliances, and barriers to organisational learning.

Your Final Project should also include a section on how and where you obtained the information sources, as well as the methodology used to perform any analysis. Be sure to adhere fully to the Harvard Referencing System, This project should follow a structured approach and should be prepared and presented as a professional business report.

Your task for Week 5 is to prepare and hand in a Project Proposal that includes the nature and structure of the project, the sources of information you plan to use, and the most important concepts and techniques to be applied.

Hindsight Bias for Political Elections

You will write a Method section describing our data collection process and our final sample. You will receive a summary of the data we collected and use this to write a Results section where you will plot this data in an APA style figure or figures and describe the pattern of results. You will then write a Discussion which interprets these results and reports whether they support your hypotheses, then integrate your findings with other literature and critique the study. You may need to revise your reference list, correcting any reference errors made in Assignment 1 and adding any new sources you cite in Assignment 2. When you have finished you should add an APA style Abstract which summarises the whole study.

Life greatest miracle

1. Watch \”Life\’s Greatest Miracle\” (PBS, NOVA): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vi7NvGBiIw

2. As you watch, take notes on the stages of fetal development. For example, note when the heart starts beating.

3. Then, look at pp. 220-221 in your book and your notes from my lecture. What methods of abortion are used during the stages of development you have noted? In other words, where is the fetus at in its growth when it is aborted?

4. Finally, does any of this matter? Do you think that the principle of individual rights trumps any and all considerations of fetal development? Should this biological approach to the issue of abortion even be in an ethics course? What do you think? Try to work in some of the ethical theories and principles we\’ve been talking about in class.

Informed Consent in Practice

Medical decision making can be an extremely challenging experience for patients and their loved ones. Balancing various potential outcomes with levels of risk can be daunting for someone who is also dealing with the emotional stresses of illness. Gaining the patient\’s \”true\” informed consent is a critical step for health care professionals to ensure that the best decisions can be made.

To prepare for this Discussion, review this week\’s Learning Resources, paying particular attention to the Emanuel article, \”What Makes Clinical Research Ethical?\”

Also, review the Macklin article from Week 1, \”Applying the Four Priniciples\” before preparing and posting your discussion response.

By Day 4, post an explanation of how informed consent for medical research (clinical trials) differs from the patient\’s consent to treat used in health care practice (e.g., medical treatment or surgery). Explain why you think this difference exists? Provide at least one clear example of how informed consent could be used in medical research and one example of how it is used in health care practice. Then provide an example of each of the four ethical principals in action in research. Use your textbook, the articles in the Learning Resources, and/or other credible resources to support your answer.
