The system of federalism was instituted with the writing and authorization of the Constitution in 1787. In dividing power between states and the national government, federalism has undergone challenges to the placement of power. Should power reside primarily in national or in state government? The Civil War was the most dramatic challenge to the placement of power. Southern states argued, under the leadership of John C. Calhoun, that states’ power superseded national power, while northern states, under the leadership of President Abraham Lincoln, stressed the need for union under the leadership and direction of the national government.

In the more than two hundred years since the Constitution’s adoption, there have been many changes to the meaning of federalism, with power shifting between state and national governments. In the twentieth century, the shifts of power became largely associated with the national government’s ability to provide increased funding sources. With more funding available, the national government has expanded its impact on all areas of state governments. This increased power has had many advocates and many detractors, each with strong justifications.

Week 3 Research

Give an overview of the following distribution channels: Channel levels: Direct versus indirect distribution Channel organizations: Conventional, vertical, horizontal, and multichannel marketing systems Analyze your target market’s needs, and explain what you know about your target market and what it wants from a channel of distribution. Imagine that you are in charge of water quality for a local branch of your state’s Department of Environmental Protection. It is an agricultural region with several large industrial farms and concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). There have been several algal blooms in local lakes that have affected tourism and resulted in dead zones in the lakes. Your boss has asked you to write a report that describes the situation, analyzes three solutions, and uses one of those solutions in an overall management plan for the region.

Your report should address the following:

Describe the environmental conditions and chemical processes that are leading to the dead zones.

PART II: Journal

Write a three page APA-formatted paper in which you describe a time in which a company that you either are familiar with personally or read about in case studies used graphics or charts to explain and communicate instead of writing.
