Choose an item that you would like to manufacture.  You do not actually need to manufacture something, but will proceed through the assignment as if you were planning on manufacturing the item you have selected.  The product should require materials and labor and be something that you are familiar with in process from start to finish.  The product must be useful and marketable.  You can choose something as simple as making chocolate chip cookies, a type of craft, or something more complicated. Consider production as if you were making the product from beginning to end, and not as if using a kit.

Perform the following steps:

1. Choose a product to manufacture and describe the manufacturing process.
2. Prepare the following budgets for 1 quarter, broken down monthly, regarding your chosen item:
   • estimated sales budget
   • estimated direct materials budget
   • estimated direct labors budget
   • estimated manufacturing overhead budget
   • estimated selling and administrative expenses
   • estimated income statement.
3. Classify all manufacturing costs and selling and administrative expenses as either variable or fixed.
4. Prepare a contribution margin income statement separating all variable and fixed costs into their own categories.
5. Determine the breakeven point in units and dollars.  Also determine the number of units and dollars that need to be sold to make a target profit of $5,000 a month.
6. Identify what types of trends you should be aware of in the industry and who the primary competitors are.
7. Answer the following question: If you had to improve the bottom line, what would you do and what concerns would you have going forward?
8. Choose a piece of equipment that you might consider purchasing to increase production of your item and address the following questions: What types of capital budgeting factors would you look at when deciding whether to do this?  What would be the relevant costs that you would consider in this decision?

Your final project should be in the form of a paper, using Microsoft Word, that addresses each of these different areas.  Steps #1, 6, 7 and 8 will be in paragraph form and Steps #2, 3, 4 and 5 will involve numerical calculations that should be put into the form of a table in proper format and included as part of the paper.  You should show any calculations in a table within Word.  Your paper should be 3-6 double-spaced pages (body of the paper)

Assignment 3: Challenges in Identifying Mental Disorders

Most mental disorders lie on a continuum with “normal” behavior at one end. For example, nearly everyone has a fear of something, but it does not rise to the level of a phobia. A behavior may seem abnormal in one context but completely normal in another context. These two aspects show why it can be challenging to properly identify mental disorders.

Using your textbook and the Argosy University online library resources, research the principles and methods of identifying mental disorders. Note particularly the diversity of views and the challenges of identification. Based on your research, write a reflective essay. Use the following question to direct your thoughts and organize your essay:

• Why is determining abnormal behavior or a mental disorder so difficult?

To develop your essay, keep in mind issues such as the role of social norms in defining the abnormal, the multiplicity of indicators of what is abnormal, the stigma suffered by those identified as abnormal, and finally the need for objectivity in dealing with the concept.

Imagine that you are a financial manager researching investments for your client. Use the Strayer Learning Resource Center to research the stock of any U.S. publicly traded company that you may consider as an investment opportunity for your client. Your investment should align with your client’s investment goals. (Note: Please ensure that you are able to find enough information about this company in order to complete this assignment. Choose one (1) of the three (3) reading selections from the list of topic choices below. The focus is on brief but important primary source material written by major authors. Read the selections as identified with each topic below. Write a three to four (3-4) paragraph essay (250 words minimum) which analyzes the “surprise ending” of the reading selection.

Topic Choices

Reading selection from Descartes’ Discourse on the Method (Part IV). Descartes begins with a  proof of one basic conclusion and ends with a proof of something much grander. Remember to focus on the surprise and point of realization, not the details of the philosophical argument. Read Part IV of the Discourse on the Method located athttp://www.earlymoderntexts.com/assets/pdfs/descartes1637.pdf (then scroll down to Part 4, pp. 14-18). This is only four or five (4 or 5) pages of the larger work.

For the reading selection you choose:

1. Clearly state in your own words the “surprise ending” in the reading you selected. Clearly identify the point in the reading when you realized that there were elements in the reading that surprised you. Not all of the surprises come at the end.
2. Evaluate how successful the author was in convincing you to accept the validity of the “surprise ending” that was different from what you expected.

Steve has asked his girlfriend Nadia to marry him. They dated for a year after meeting in college at a fraternity party. Nadia has been sexually intimate with one other boyfriend, while Steve has had multiple partners. Both are American, but Nadia’s grandparents are originally from Egypt. Accountants can use data flow diagrams (DFDs) to depict the physical flows of data through an AIS (like document flowcharts), or the logical flow of data through an AIS (like system flowcharts). Evaluating a Play Episode with Blocks

Over the past six weeks, you have considered the environmental and teacher interaction effects on a child’s ability to learn during play. Your text presents two methods of classifying the developmental stages of play. One is from Piaget’s theory and includes functional level play, constructive play, dramatic play, and games with rules. The other classification is based on Parten’s theory and includes solitary play, parallel play, associative play, and cooperative play.

For this Assignment, write an informative essay based on the course resources that evaluates the video play episode of four children playing with blocks included in the resources for this project. Support your evaluation with citations from at least three of your sources included in your reference list. Observe each of the boys playing in the block area and describe the following:

What levels of play did you observe from the “Ted” in the striped shirt; “Adam” in the Celtic shirt; “Eli” in the white shirt; and “Ben” in the gray shirt? Include also the other individual developmental skills you noticed in each child in the areas of cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language.
