Read the case under HR Oops! (in Chapter 4 of your textbook). Use the Argosy University online library for additional research, and do the following in a Word document:

• In 1–2 paragraphs, summarize the case and your research that relates to the case.
• In 2–3 pages, answer the following:
  • What would be the consequences to an employer of having highly demanding jobs with low security, unfair pay, and little control? Explain and justify your answer.
  • How could fish-processing plants like the one described here improve jobs so they can fill vacant positions profitably? Explain and justify your answer.
  • Based on your research, explain at least three HR trends and practices that might help the organization analyze work, design jobs, and job flow. Explain and justify your answer.

Apply the current APA guidelines to your work and use at least three resources in your response.

Refer to the RMO CSMS marketing subsystem shown in Figure 3-11 on page 79-80 of the textbook.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

1. Using Microsoft Visio or an open source alternative such as Dia, create a use case graphic rendering that shows all actors and all use cases for the RMO CSMS marketing subsystem. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
2. Provide a narrative describing your diagram that includes:
   1. an overview of the diagram
   2. an analysis of the actors
3. Use at least three (3) quality resources outside of the suggested resources in this assignment. Note:Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Read “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel García Márquez which can be found anywhere in google. Reflect and respond to the story in a 4-page reader-response essay.

Remember that reader-response essays are less formal than other types of academic writing. You may use the personal pronoun “I” and may write about whatever strikes you from the story. You may also choose to write from one of the following prompts:

• Explain how “good” and “evil” co-exist in this story, and which one you think wins out in the end. Use specific lines of text from the story to support your assertion.

• Gabriel García Márquez is said to have fathered the genre of “magical realism” with this story. What parts of the story felt magical to you and what parts felt real? How do they work together to convey the overall message of the story? Use specific lines of text from the story to support your assertion.
• Does the fact that Márquez is a South American writer have any influence on the developments of this story? Does its international setting have any impact on the reader’s potential understanding of the story?

For a successful paper:

• Have a strong thesis statement at the end of your introduction paragraph.
• Use a “hook” in the introduction paragraph to grab your readers’ attention.
• Use specific textual support from the short story in the body of your paper.
• Finish with a strong conclusion that summarizes your main points, restates the thesis in some way, and possibly returns to the initial “hook.”
• Proofread for errors in spelling, grammar, and writing mechanics. Vary sentence structure and sentence length to add interest.
• Follow correct APA guidelines

Application: Fundamental Rights

In the United States, there are exceptional rights called fundamental rights under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. The Supreme Court has held through due process and equal protection that to restrict those fundamental rights, the government must have a “compelling governmental interest.” Some fundamental rights, like the right to free speech, are listed in the Bill of Rights, but others are not expressly written in the Constitution. Rather, they have been interpreted through constitutional construction, which you learned about in Week 1. Those rights include the right to privacy, marriage, procreation, and interstate travel. A law restricting these rights must be narrowly tailored and will be evaluated by the Supreme Court with strict scrutiny. It is an issue of substantive due process if the law denies a fundamental right without adequate justification.

To prepare for this assignment:

• Review Chapter 1, 1.15 and 1.16, of your course text, Constitutional Law, and the article, “Due Process.” Reflect on the purpose of the Due Process Clause.

   

• Review the article, “Who is ‘Due’ Process?” to learn about how administrators of human services can protect the right for individuals to obtain services through due process.

   

• Select a fundamental right. Then, think about how the fundamental right you selected is rooted in the Due Process Clause in the Constitution.

The number of deaths officially designated as suicide among young adults (15-24 years of age) has increased considerably (see the “Suicide Prevention” article).  Interpret the available statistics and describe the influences of family, culture, and environment as it pertains to the data.  Be sure to distinguish between suicide attempts and deaths attributed to suicide, and to report gender differences. Your initial post should address the following:

• Discuss whether the available statistics accurately represent the evidence (e.g., can these statistics underreport the actual rates?).
• Describe at least two potential causes of suicide among teens according to the scientific literature.
• Examine at least one feasible solution to the issue of suicide and discuss its effectiveness.
