When looking for information about a particular issue, how often do you try to resist biases toward your own point of view? This assignment asks you to engage in this aspect of critical thinking.

The assignment is divided into two (2) parts.

For Part I of the assignment (due Week 2), you read a book excerpt about critical thinking processes, reviewed the Procon.org Website in order to gather information, and engaged in prewriting to examine your thoughts.

* Remember that in the Week 2 Discussion, you examined the biases discussed in Chapter 2 of the webtext.

In Part II of the assignment (due Week 4), you will write a paper to synthesize your ideas.

Part II – Writing

Write at three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

1. State your position on the topic you selected for Assignment 1.1.

2. Identify (3) three premises (reasons) from the Procon.org website that support your position    and explain why you selected these specific reasons.

3. Explain your answers to the “believing” questions about the three (3) premises opposing your position from the Procon.org website.

4. Examine at least two (2) types of biases that you likely experienced as you evaluated the premises for and against your position.

5. Discuss the effects of your own enculturation or group identification that may have influenced your biases.

6. Discuss whether or not your thinking about the topic has changed after playing the “Believing Game,” even if your position on the issue has stayed the same.

The paper should follow guidelines for clear and organized writing:

• Include an introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph.
• Address main ideas in body paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
• Adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.

The number of American telecommuters is expected to increase by 29 million telecommuters or 43% of the workforce by 2016 as more work gets performed from remote locations. Mobile workers can work from wherever they are and use the IT / IS technology necessary to access co-workers, company or corporate infrastructure, intranets, and other information sources.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

1. Describe the impact of telecommuting on energy conservation, IT operational costs, “green computing”, and shifts in telecommuters’ lifestyles (e.g., parents, disability, etc.).
2. Describe how the business infrastructure should be designed so that employees will be able to continue to perform business functions in the event of a disaster (i.e., storm, hurricane, or earthquake) that destroys or makes it impossible to access the buildings.

Healthy Lifestyles

Research the South University Online Library and the Internet to read more about the behavioral patterns. Conduct an interview (via phone or face-to-face) of ten or more people in the age group of fifteen to sixty-four years, to survey the impression of their health, health problems, and lifestyle choices.

Ask the following questions, while conducting the interview:

Do you smoke?Do you drink alcohol?Do you wear a seatbelt while driving a car?Do you talk on the phone while driving?Do you exercise four to five times a week?Do you eat a healthy diet with fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, and whole grain?Do you suffer from any of the following conditions: high blood pressure, stress, weight issues, or diabetes?

Compile the data collected through the interview for each category of questions, taking into consideration the age group to which they belong.

For doing so, create a three column chart.

In the first column, list the health behaviors for which people were interviewed.In the second column, list the percentage of individuals interviewed against each behavior.In the third column, list the percentage of people who believe they have healthy lifestyles (information can be found in the text readings or from the Internet).

Next, analyze the chart to understand how these columns differ from each other.

In a Microsoft Word document, create a 3- -page report of your analysis, answering the following questions:

Are you surprised to see the trends of the most common behaviors? Discuss.Did an individual’s age relate to his or her health behavior? For example, do individuals in the age group of fifty to sixty years have different behaviors than individuals in the age group of thirty to forty years?What are some of the changes that the people you interviewed could implement in their lifestyles and behaviors to improve their health status?

Support your responses with examples.

For the Week 3 Application, you will select two articles from a list, identify the components of a research project and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the articles.

• Select two studies from the list of articles for Week 3, provided in the class ‘Doc Sharing’ area: ‘NURS 4000 Week 3 Articles‘. • Review each selected article based on what you have learned about study design, identifying information from each component of the study.
• Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each study.
• Based on your review, write a 5-6-page summary of the two articles using the NURS 4000 Week 3 Assignment Rubric.

Explain why each is a strong or weak study based upon criteria for reliability and validity for quantitative studies. Use criteria for trustworthiness for qualitative studies. Refer to your textbook for information related to evaluation of research.

Submitting your assignment in APA format means, at a minimum, you will need the following:

• Title page: Remember the running head. The title should be in all capitals.
• Abstract: A summary of your paper, not an introduction. Begin writing in third-person voice.
• Body: The body of your paper begins on the page following the title page and abstract page and must be double-spaced (be careful not to triple- or quadruple-space between paragraphs). A 55-year-old African-American male reports to your clinic complaining of frequent and painful urination for the past 2 months. The patient is sexually active and has been in a monogamous relationship for the past 3 years. He reports no penile discharge, fever, chills, abdominal pain, or back pain. His father is deceased and passed away of colon cancer. His father had a history of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). The patient considers himself as a healthy male. He works for a large American corporation, has a relatively healthy diet, and exercises 4 to 5 times per week.

To prepare:

With regard to the case study you were assigned:

•Review this week’s Learning Resources, and consider the insights they provide about the case study.

•Consider what history would be necessary to collect from the patient in the case study you were assigned.

•Consider what physical exams and diagnostic tests would be appropriate to gather more information about the patient’s condition. How would the results be used to make a diagnosis?

•Identify at least five possible conditions that may be considered in a differential diagnosis for the patient.

POST   1-2 PAGES  SOAP NOTE  ON :A description of the health history you would need to collect from the patient in the case study to which you were assigned. Explain what physical exams and diagnostic tests would be appropriate and how the results would be used to make a diagnosis. Given the importance of technology in business today, discuss ONE of the following issues providing examples wherever possible.

Explain what you think are the most important functions that Human Resources performs detailing why you have chosen those functions.

Staff appraisals in many companies are conducted on an annual basis. Other firms may conduct reviews more regularly, for example quarterly. Outline what you think are the advantages and disadvantages of either system and explain which you would use, and why, if you were a manager and had the choice.

Select a Fortune 500 international company in the service industry. Using your selected company as the basis for your research, prepare a paper that will:

• Describe the main line of business of the company.
• Name four of the countries in which the company operates.
• Explain in detail the implementation of the 4Ps marketing mix concept by the company.
• Describe any differences observed in the implementation of this concept, from one country to another.

Present your findings as a Word document of 4–5 pages that is formatted in APA style.
