Forecasting.

Successful organizations are also those who are able to make relatively accurate forecasts about the future needs (inventory, facilities, capacity, manufacturing, manpower) for the products produced or the services delivered.

Forecasting is an uncertain science since it calls for predictions but current theoretical and mathematical models (quantitative and qualitative) make it possible for organizations to predict with an acceptable margin of error. Think about it this way; without forecasting organizations would always be responding rather than acting.

  1. Select one industry from the list below: Bank, restaurant, health clinic/hospital, airline, or university.
  2. What specific variables would be needed by that organization in order to forecast? Be sure you explain why you selected each variable and why it is important to forecasting.
  3. Which variables are used for short-range forecasting, long-range forecasting, or for both. Make sure you support your selections.

Data Driven Decision Making:Techniques and Tools for Managing the Data.

You have explored many options for managing data as well as its importance to the overall health of an organization in making well-informed decisions. Many organizations feel that they have to utilize powerful and expensive solutions, but there are also cheaper alternatives. For example, MS Excel can be a great tool to manage data and identify answers to any questions. Thus, whether your organization is big or small, all the tools need to be evaluated to determine the one that will work best, not only in managing the data but also in lowering the overall cost. Managing cost is important, as you do not want to implement a solution that will bankrupt the organization; that, in itself, is an ill-informed decision.

Using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, research tools and techniques of managing data.

Respond to the following:

  • What would be some of the mistakes or consequences of not investigating the costs associated with the organization’s information systems (data collection) choice? Besides going bankrupt, what other effects could it have on the organization? Could it lead to bad decision making? Explain.
  • What systems does your organization utilize, either as a whole or per department? Is this solution effective? Why or why not? Is there a solution that would be more effective? If not, explain why.
  • With the various solutions available today, which one do you think would work best for you? Meaning, which of these solutions (such as MS Excel or a decision-support system)  would work best on the following criteria:
    • Ease of use
    • Interpretation of data
    • Sharing of data
  • Often, we think of business analytics as only for businesses. However, can any of these tools be used for personal decision making? Provide some examples of how you could utilize these tools.

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Modern Psychological: Limitations of Norms and Norming.

Modern psychological testing relies heavily on norming. Even domain-referenced tests provide statistical norms to explain performance and categorize test subjects. However, there are limitations to norms that must be understood by those administrating psychological tests and interpreting scores. This assignment will ask you to reconcile those limitations with interpretation of those scores.

Intercultural Communication Interview.

Locate a person to interview who is living in your country as a temporary visitor, such as a tourist or a student from another country who will return home after a short period of time. Ask for the person’s permission to use his or her name and quotations in the paper and how to correctly spell their name. Prepare your questions ahead of time and craft them well. The goal is to find out about the person’s experience as a tourist.

Write an essay of 500-750 words about the experience. Do not write it as a verbatim account of the interview. Use quotes as needed, but write the paper as an essay. Refer to “Resource 2: Intercultural Communication Interview.” Where did you meet the person? How long did you visit? What did you learn? Was this person’s experience typical of what you read in the textbook about how hosts and tourists interact? How, specifically, did business people treat them?

Reflect on how much this experience stretched your comfort zone and how this observation could affect your intercultural communication. If you were going to do this assignment over, what could you do that would make it more valuable to you and, perhaps, to the other person?

Diagnosing and Planning for Change.

Assume you are the Sales and Marketing Director for Sea Treasures, a small group of well-known retail stores specializing in exotic sea life and high-end accessories for aquariums.   The company has been in business for over 50 years, but the customer base is shrinking, sales are slow, and you are faced with reducing staff and closing stores.   Sea Treasures will be out of business within a year if innovative and creative changes are not made quickly.   After many months, you have finally been able to convince the owner that the only way to sustain the business and increase revenue is to create an Internet Website to sell the large inventory of aquarium decorator items (currently gathering dust in a costly warehouse) .  This will be a short-term, small scale change.  Six months later, you will expand the Website to sell live sea creatures such as tropical fish and small sea turtles online, which is a long-term, large-scale change.

You face many challenges in this transformational change initiative, beginning with strong employee resistance, new technology, and shipping methods.  Many small businesses have been faced with these same issues, and have made the transition successfully.  Consider the humble beginnings of Amazon, and look where they are today.  Selecting the best change model for this business, and implementing it step by step provides the foundation for creating an exciting new company.

In 3 – 5 pages, explain which change model you would follow for the short-term change and which you would follow for the long-term change.  Provide rationale for your decision and discuss the effects that these changes would have on the employees, managers, and executives within the organization.  Include at least three references and follow standard APA formatting for your paper.
