Please read these directions and the “Art 100 Museum Paper Grading Rubric” (attached above) before visiting your museum of choice.

• Attached Visual Record: 5 points

Take a photo in front of the museum’s sign or other identifying marker; a scanned copy of a brochure, postcard front and back, or a ticket stub from the museum will also earn full credit.

• Format/Style: 10 points

Paper must be typed, double spaced, at least 3-4 pages in length, include a heading with name, date submitted and the course name and number (Intro to Art/ART 100).

• Grammar, spelling and sentence structure must be checked and not impede comprehension.

Titles of art works must be italicized or underlined (not in quotation marks!).

Sources must be cited properly, if used.

Content/body:

• Introduction: 10 points
• Include name of museum and date of visit.
• Identify a commonality or theme between the works (this could be a similar medium, subject matter, art period/movement, color or other formal element, etc.).
• THREE WORKS: 90 points (30 points per work-complete these steps for EACH work you include in your paper):
• Identify artist, title (in italics!), date of work and medium.
• Describe the content and/or subject matter (describe what you see when you look at the work).

  ( For example: ” Agnolo Bronzino’s Eleanor of Toledo from 1544 is an oil on wood portrait of a mother seated with her young son standing on her right side. The mother is wearing an elaborate dress with black and gold details. The child has blond hair and is wearing a dark blue jacket and is smiling slightly.)

• Identify a style or movement the work is associated with;  use your Preble’s textbook to place the work in its style category. Explain how it fits into this particular art movement.

  ( For example: ” Eleanor of Toledo was completed during the beginning of the Mannerist art movement, which took place in Italy beginning in the 1520s. This painting is characteristically Mannerist because the figures in the painting have exaggerated and elongated proportions-especially fingers-and are painted with rich colors used to imply texture.”)

• Identify 2-3 formal elements (define each formal element using your textbook; identify each formal element in the art work).

  ( For example: “The dress depicted in Bronzino’s Eleanor of Toledo demonstrates the artist’s use of texture. Texture is the perceived surface quality of an object. In the painting the fabric of the mother’s dress appears to be silk with velvet details and shiny pearl and gold beads…”)

• Conclusion: 15 points
• Give your personal reaction to the three works you chose (what you liked/did not like).
• Describe how this assignment expanded your appreciation of art.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper, describing your personal perception of organized crime upon entering this course. Identify any assumptions on which your perception is based, and answer the following questions:

• How would you describe or define organized crime?
• How does your perception compare to the definitions in the readings?
• What characteristics do you think are associated with organized criminal behavior?

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Part of having a functional Incident response plan is notifying the right people when an incident occurs. In the event of an incident, who would you notify (or who do you think needs to be notified) and how would you notify them?

Performance Management Presentation (Benchmark Assessment)

Performance management systems vary from institution to institution and company to company. Selecting the correct system to apply to an institution requires careful analysis. In this assignment, you will analyze a performance management system and prepare a presentation of your analysis.

General Requirements:

• Use speaker notes to provide additional information and justification for your bullet points.
• While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Directions:

Read “Performance Management at the National Institute of Management” and create a PowerPoint presentation with a minimum of 15 slides that includes the following related to the case study:

1. An overview of the advantages and disadvantages of the existing performance management system. Has the current system failed to address organizational objectives satisfactorily? What are the short-term and long-term implications of the current system on the organization and faculty?
2. A comparison of the perspectives of the various stakeholders, particularly the board of directors and faculty. How might you align the two perspectives?

Price Elasticity

 

You are advising the stakeholders of a small firm that is one of a handful of manufacturers of disposable contact lenses, wetting solution, and other products related to eye care. The stakeholders are wrestling with a proposal to implement a price increase for some, all, or a large number of their products. They all agree that doing so can help offset recent cost increases the firm has experienced, but there the agreement ends.

 

Some favor a small price increase for products across the board, noting that, from the standpoint of the market, demand for healthcare products is relatively inelastic. Others believe that strategy could backfire, hurting more than helping. Instead, they argue, there are a number of factors to consider—the strength of the economy, their competition, trends in the market for specific types of products, and so on. They believe, therefore, products or types of products should be considered on a case-by-case basis: while a price increase for one product might yield positive results, a price increase for another might wipe out any gain achieved by the first.

 

What would you say to these stakeholders? Formulate your advice, drawing on course readings, other scholarly sources, and the concept of healthcare price elasticity. Be sure to explain and support your advice by citing sources and providing examples.

CDHPs

 

A new type of third-party-reimbursement healthcare payment plan is emerging in the United States. CDHPs strive to control costs and improve quality of care by requiring consumers to take control of their own healthcare decisions. Consumers decide how they want to spend their healthcare dollars, depending on what is important to them. CDHPs are geared to encourage participants to enroll in some type of wellness program and improve their lifestyles. Specific types of CDHPs are health reimbursement accounts (HRA), flexible spending accounts (FSA), and health savings accounts (HSA).

However, there are concerns about CDHPs. The consumer may neither understand nor have the education and the tools to manage his or her own healthcare appropriately. This may have long-term ramifications on the whole healthcare system and whether CDHPs can be successful for the consumer, the employer, the physician, and the healthcare facilities, as well as the insurers. Answer the following questions in regard to this development:

• Are CDHPs more geared toward the healthier and younger population?
• Are they effective for patients with chronic illnesses?
• Will they discourage the use of preventative care and cause increased healthcare costs in the future?

After examining the above questions in your analysis, work around the following instructions and create a 8- to 10-page Microsft Word document:

• Summarize the history of when, how, and why CDHPs were developed.
• Explain HSA, HRA, and FSA with examples.
• Examine different segments of the population. Describe which socioeconomic group is likely to benefit the most from CDHPs.
• Explain the types of incentives to providers for efficiency in the delivery of healthcare services. Explain who bears the financial risk—the provider, the patient, or the CDHP.
• Offer your recommendations for patients considering a CDHP, including which types are appropriate for which patients. Include your recommendations for each, to accept or decline, and also include your rationale behind such recommendations.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
Washington, D.C. is an extremely competitive, political town and you must work hard to keep your agency an important part of government. It’s the beginning of the legislative calendar and you must compete with other agencies and departments for a part of the budget and a high profile emphasis from the president.
Choose which federal executive department you would like to represent (see list below).  Identify a current or new program that you will present to the president as a priority for your department.  Write a report to the president describing the problem and the program that will alleviate the problem.  You may prepare charts, tables and graphs to explain your plans to the President.
DETAILS
1.  Submit a written report addressed to the president.  A quality report will probably be between 750-1000 words.  However, the president cares more about clarity and detail than length – charts and other visual aids may be more valuable than word count.
2.  You should use at least 5 quality sources to research and clarify your report.  When appropriate, the sources should be cited within the report using MLA or APA style.  A complete bibliography should be attached to the report. A bibliography includes all sources from which you gathered information.
3.  The president wants to focus on your ideas, not your errors.  Be sure to check for clarity and appropriate word usage; complete sentences; correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
4.  As the head of your department you should demonstrate substantial understanding about your department and your priority program.
5.  In order to get a favorable response from the president, be sure to follow all guidelines as outlined in the attached rubric.
6.   In the report describe the top priority program for your department:
How does this program fit into the official mission of your department?
Why is your department best suited to run this program?
Is this a new program or an existing program?
What problem does the program solve?  How significant is the problem?  Give evidence, not anecdote.
What is the estimated fiscal impact of the program and how does it fit into your department’s budget?
Why should the program be important to the president?

In order to develop effective strategies, it is critical to understand the marketplace environment. In this assignment, you will explore the relationship between marketplace positioning based on environmental factors.

Throughout this course, you will work on a strategy audit for a selected organization. In Module 1, you selected an organization for your course project activities and completed a market position analysis for your organization.

In this module, you will conduct a comprehensive external environmental scan of your business unit, including a five forces analysis, to identify the relevant trends that pose opportunities or threats to your business. These will serve as inputs for a final strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis that will be due in Module 4: Assignment 2.

There are many elements that can go into an environmental scan, and your analysis will depend on the nature of your business unit, product portfolio, target market, and other factors related to the scope of your business.

Your environmental scan should include some or all of the following elements:

• Economic factors and trends
• Political factors and trends
• Regulatory and legal factors and trends
• Societal factors and trends
• Technological factors and trends
• Geographic factors and trends
• Porter’s five forces that consists of the following aspects:

Although your analysis will be tailored to your specific business, be sure to cover the following:

• A thorough five forces analysis of your industry
• The key factors and trends in any other areas affecting your industry
• A preliminary classification of the external factors and trends as either opportunities or threats which will be the inputs for the final SWOT analysis
