Introduction
Ethics in advertising are the moral order and principles that must be applied for an advertisement to be effective. Adverts educate consumers and create awareness on various goods and services they can purchase (Bivins, 2009).
The unique ethical issues
Vital issues concerned with ethical advertisement are dishonest adverts, advertisement to young ones, drug advertisement e.g. tobacco, an advert for local breweries, political adverts that are unconstructive, adverts regarding sex and ethnicity stereotype.
Ethical dilemma
Ethical dilemma in business advertising entails making the right selections. Advertisers are encountered with hard choices which build and generate tension between the codes of conduct and revenues or between their own individual gain and the public good. In real sense, any choice or judgements that encounter a moral consideration can potentially result to an ethical dilemma. For instance; a decision that requires morally two causes of action which are incompatible with each other. Also, decisions which favors ones’ interest but morally violates the principle that the person supports (Taplin, 2013).
Traditional theories used in suggesting the potential resolution of the dilemmas
There are 3 specific traditional rules used in resolving the arising dilemmas. First, the respect to truthfulness; meaning advertisers should not distort the truth but instead stand with relevant facts. The decision should adhere to the dignity of human beings by giving special considerations to the disadvantaged group in the society. Finally, the advertisement must promote social responsibility; it must not limit progress. Based on the above rules, any potential dilemmas in advertising can be avoided provided the advert obeys the morals, it is declared effective.

Community Self-Help Group Activity

1. Attend a self-help group such as Alcoholics Anonymous, N.A., Alanon, and Cocaine Anonymous… in the community of your choice.

2. Upon identification of a group you plan to attend (when, where and meeting times etc.) call the leader or information line to assure that the meeting is open to the general public. Inform the
contact person that you are a student nurse attending the meeting to learn about treatment
activities in the community. Assure them that you are bound by confidentiality and will not take
notes during the group session.

etc. Dress in a professional but not overly formal manner, business casual. Do not wear your name tag or lab coat to the self-help groups unless specifically requested by the group leader.

This culminating activity is designed to help you develop a presentation or project that teaches character through the curriculum and encourages ethical reflection. Your final project may be in the form of a webpage, videography (no longer than 10 minutes), poster, brochure, song, poem, or any other instructor-approved medium.

3. At the end of your presentation, include a final project summary statement that addresses the following:

• What are your core personal values, those virtues and elements of character that make you who you are?
• What are your personal strengths as a moral model? More specifically, what moral awareness, feeling, or action do you bring to the classroom or workplace? Your home?
• Who are you as a future role model or educational leader?

4. Finally, address your future. You are still learning, you will always develop, so look to the future: What’s next? Now that you know more about character, what skills might still remain to be refined or added? What might you want to explore further in the arena of moral leadership?

Examples of project ideas:

• A video presentation for a science classroom that is designed to teach students how to use character to accomplish tasks through teamwork.
• A PowerPoint presentation for a language arts classroom that illustrates how a particular piece of literature incorporates character and how this can be analyzed in a literature study.

For his 10th birthday, Greg was given a handheld videogame system. His parents allowed him to pick any two games. They knew the games might contain violence, because there was a violence rating sign posted on the games, but rationalized that they were only games and other kids play them. Greg would quickly finish dinner and run up to his room to play his games.

His parents were pleased to observe that Greg enjoyed their present so much. After a week, his parents noticed that he wasn’t turning off the videogames at bedtime, and had begun turning homework in late. He was up so late playing that he would not get up for school without argument. His parents decided that enough was enough and took the video games away. Greg threw temper tantrums and persuaded his parents to buy him a computer after convincing them that it was necessary to keep up at school. Greg soon returned to the same pattern of behavior where he spent long hours and late nights at the computer. This time, his parents felt a false sense of security that he was doing his homework. One day, his curious parents decided to scan the computer history to see what Web sites Greg was browsing. To their horror, they discovered that Greg was spending many hours online playing interactive, sometimes violently graphic, games on the Internet. He was also chatting with other “gamers”. Before confronting Greg about his behavior, his mother and father agreed to investigate what types of intervention strategies might be available within their community. They have come to you, a behavioral consultant, for advice.

As a mental health worker in a large city, you have been asked to work with refugee children who have been relocated from central Nigeria to live with foster families in your city.
