What certifications are available in your professional area of interest?

Option #2: Internships, Volunteering, and Certifications for Healthcare Administration and Management

While there are three parts to this assignment, there is only one deliverable of a 2- to 3-page paper. Review the entire assignment before getting started.

Part A. Conduct a search for internships or volunteer opportunities that might pertain to healthcare administration and management as a whole. Start by looking in your local area, then expand to other areas if needed/desired. Consider the following questions as you conduct the search:

  • What types of opportunities did you find?
  • What specific qualities or skill set are organizations looking for in interns or volunteers?
  • What personally interests you most or least in these opportunities?

Part B. Conduct a search for professional certifications that might apply to healthcare administration and management as a whole. Consider these questions as you conduct the search:

  • What certifications are available in your professional area of interest?
  • Who are the sponsoring agencies of these professional certifications?
  • How are the certifications obtained?
  • Are exams, fees, or proof of education or work experience required?
  • How might these certifications benefit you in your career?

Part C. Write a 2- to 3-page paper that highlights your findings. Format all references according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.

What effects would joining a MCO have on your clinic regarding staffing, patient volume, and financial stability?

MCOs

You are a new physician setting up your own practice in a new town. You are researching the different MCOs offered in your area and are considering becoming a physician for one of these networks. You have also invited the sales representatives of several health plans to speak with you about the benefits of choosing their plans.

Based on the above scenario, answer the following questions:

  • What effects would joining a MCO have on your clinic regarding staffing, patient volume, and financial stability?
  • What policies and procedures should be used by the MCOs to reduce costs for their clientele?
  • Discuss the ethical issues or concerns about MCOs providing a lower quality of care compared to traditional fee-for-service (FFS) organizations?
  • What are some of the questions you would ask each representative about his or her company’s specific plan that will help you make a decision?
  • Do you believe that the evolution of MCOs and consumer driven health plans (CDHPs) has affected the healthcare environment today by integrating the financing and delivery of healthcare services? If yes, how?
  • How have the roles and relationships between physicians and patients changed by each of these types of plans?

What’s a Woman Gotta Do (Wear)?

Please answer the following essay question. In responding you should draw on course readingsand relevant content from lectures and videosPresent your response in clear, concise, and non-repetitive language. This exam is fundamentally a test of your ability to digest course content and to apply it to a “real life” context.

While an excellent answer always lives by its own rules, in general, your response should be at least 4-6 paragraphs in length. The exam should be typed, double-spaced (New Times Roman, 12pt font).

What’s a Woman Gotta Do (Wear)?

Actress Jessica Chastain, perhaps best known for her role in the film Zero Dark Thirty, recently called out Hollywood for what she considers to be a sexist double standard that powerfully shapes the portrayal of female superheroes. Concerning this point, she was quoted as saying “If you look at films like Elektra and Aeon Flux, the problem that studios have is that they try to make kick-ass women very sexualized. They have to be in some catsuit.”
As our course readings and discussions have (hopefully) made clear, this is not a new issue. Drawing on (and citing) relevant class materials, please answer the following: 1) give some specific examples of how heroic female characters have been made to fit the “sexualized” paradigm referred to by Chastain. In other words, how have they been “sexed up”?; 2) compare and contrast this seemingly inescapable feminine heroic characteristic with essential aspects of male heroes as commonly depicted (biographies, patterns, archetypes, etc.); 3) lastly, suggest reasons why creators and audiences perpetuate/expect/accept this kind representation of heroines.

Explain whether or not you believe the research methodology that the researchers used in the study was the most appropriate for the study. Provide a rationale for your response.

In this assignment, you will write an essay about the research methods and ethical implications of a social psychology study. You will get information about the study from one of the entries in the SPARQ “Solutions Catalog”, which is a web site maintained by Stanford University at https://sparq.stanford.edu/solutions?&&. SPARQ is an acronym for “Social Psychological Answers to Real-world Questions.” Each entry in the Solutions Catalog names a problem, and then offers a solution to that problem, based on a research study in social psychology.

To keep this assignment short and manageable, your only sources for this assignment should be from the SPARQ site and your course materials, such as your textbook. There is no need for you to cite any of the course materials. Therefore, no additional citations or references are needed, beyond those from the SPARQ site.

In this exercise, you will choose one of the entries in the SPARC site, and then write a two to three (2-3) page paper that meets the following requirements.

  1. Begin your paper with a short introductory statement that clearly identifies the article from the SPARQ site that you are using, as well as the corresponding research article.  Model your statement after the following example:

The article I selected from the SPARQ website is entitled “Boost Grades by Reframing Failures” (Wilson, n.d.), which summarizes a research article (Wilson & Linville, 1982) on the topic.

  • Please note that there are two APA “in-text citations” in this example. The first citation “(Wilson, n.d.)” is an in-text citation for the SPARQ article. The SPARQ articles are undated, which means that there is no date of publication reported. The “n.d.” designation is an abbreviation for “no date”.

  • The second citation “(Wilson & Linville, 1982)”, is an in-text citation to the original research article. We are asking you to cite this paper for practice in using APA, but are not requiring you to read the original paper. Normally, you should cite only those articles that you actually read and used, but we’re making an exception here for the purposes of practice.

  1. Briefly summarize the main details of your chosen social psychology research study. Identify the main research method(s) used in the study (e.g., case study, experiment, observation, etc.).
  2. Explain whether or not you believe the research methodology that the researchers used in the study was the most appropriate for the study. Provide a rationale for your response.
  3. Discuss whether or not you believe the research methodology used in the study is the one (1) method that provides researchers with the most information in general. Explain the main reasons why or why not.
  4. Explain the major ethical implications of the selected study (e.g., informed consent, debriefing, etc.). Describe the main reasons why you believe the study was or was not ethical. Provide a rationale for your response.
  5. The final section of your paper will be a reference section that contains a corresponding reference for both of the in-text citations in your introductory statement (see point #1, above). In APA-style citations, in-text citations must match up with a reference in the reference section. You can model your reference section after the following:

Wilson, T. D. (n.d.). Boost grades by reframing failures.  Retrieved from https://sparq.stanford.edu/solutions/boost-grades-reframing-failures

Wilson, T. D. & Linville, P.W. (1982).  Improving the academic performance of college freshmen:  attribution therapy revisited.  Journal of Personality and Social Psychology42(2), 367-376.

  • These examples follow the APA conventions for an Internet article, and a professional journal article, respectively.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Describe research methods that are used for studying social psychology.
  • Develop an increased understanding of the dynamic between society and individuals.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in social psychology.
  • Write clearly and concisely about social psychology using proper grammar and mechanics.

Determine three specific reasons why healthcare organizations should conduct an analysis of the external environment on a regular basis. Support your recommendation with examples.

External Analysis” Please respond to the following:

  • Determine three specific reasons why healthcare organizations should conduct an analysis of the external environment on a regular basis. Support your recommendation with examples.
  • Examine three barriers to an effective environmental analysis. Determine whether or not the barriers that you have examined would delay the strategic planning process. Provide a rationale for your response.

The Process of an Environmental Analysis” Please respond to the following:

  • Imagine that the physicians at your hospital have proposed adding a new cardiac care wing to the hospital at which you are CEO. Outline the specific steps you would take when conducting an external analysis to determine the need for this addition.
  • Imagine that you are taking the next step in the environmental analysis process for the cardiac care wing discussed in the first part of this discussion. Recommend three strategies that you can use to evaluate the data gathered during the analysis in order to decide whether or not to add this new wing to the hospital.

Conduct research to determine the common fuel sources a developing country of your choice.

Conduct research to determine the common fuel sources, emissions, and total energy consumption by the United States and a developing country of your choice, such as China, India, or Brazil.

  • What are the primary sources of emissions? What is the industrial or agricultural profile of the country?
  • What are the similarities and differences in the fuel sources, emissions, and consumption between the two countries?
  • What are the countries’ levels of involvement in worldwide emissions regulations?
  • Discuss solutions or regulations to energy use in high-demand countries. How can high-use and low-use countries work together to reduce overall emissions?
  • In working together to make these reductions, how would you address possible cultural differences and diversity concepts that will emerge because of this partnership? Describe how low and high use countries can bridge cultural differences through strategic partnerships.
  • Support your arguments with documented evidence from credible sources using APA formatting and an APA style reference page.

Your Assignment should be written in an essay format, with an introduction and conclusion. The paper will require you to include details from research including the course materials and sources you locate on your own. Use APA format to cite your sources of information, both within parenthetical citations and also within a reference page at the end of the project.

Basic Writing Expectations:

  • A minimum of 1000 words, not counting the title or reference pages
  • At least 3 academic resources utilized
  • Include a title page, double space, font size 10 or 12
  • Include a highly developed viewpoint/thesis, purpose, and exceptional content
  • Demonstrate superior organization: use logic
  • Free of grammar and spelling errors
  • No evidence of plagiarism. Note: no more than 10% of your paper should be directly quoted from any outside source.
  • Use the APA style for all in-text citations, references, and essay body

Explain which factors (e.g., price and/or performance measures) were most important to your choice of plan and how you derived the weights for each factor you used.

Employee Health Insurance Plans

Part I

Consider the four health plans below with an eye to choosing one to offer to the company’s employees. Assume that the health plans and their annual per employee premiums are as follows:

Health Plan

Premium, Individual Premium, Family
Aetna Health $4,555 $11,428
MetroPlus $4,267 $10,540
Empire $4,217 $10,767
Oxford $6,029 $13,417

The employer will pay 80% of the premium for individual coverage, and the employee will pay the remaining 20% as well as the entire additional premium for family coverage. (The premiums listed above, while realistic in magnitude, are hypothetical and computed solely for the purpose of this project.) All of the plans are managed care plans. Assume that the benefit package is the same across all plans, so there is no difference between them in what services are covered.

In addition to the above data, click here to view and investigate the Online Report on Quality Performance Results in New York State, the latest report card issued by the New York State Department of Health, 2013, and incorporate the information into your evaluation.

You can view the various categories of measures on which health plans are rated (e.g., Access to Care, Adult Living with Illness, etc.). Click each link for a summary chart that presents the performance (usually as a percentage score) of each plan in the group on the relevant measures and how each plan compares to regional and statewide scores.

Submit a 2-page analysis in a Microsoft Word document that outlines the plan you selected and why. Generally, you would select the plan with the highest score, but if you chose a plan with a lower score, explain why. Include the following elements in your analysis:

  • Explain which factors (e.g., price and/or performance measures) were most important to your choice of plan and how you derived the weights for each factor you used.
  • Indicate, on a scale of 1 to 10, how comfortable or confident you are that you made the right choice, with 10 being most confident.

Part II

You need to use the multiattribute utility (MAU) technique to respond to the following questions. Although the technique can be performed with pencil and paper, it is recommended you use a Microsoft Excel to do the various calculations involved.

Click the following links to access the information on using the MAU technique:

  • MAU Model
  • MAU Example
  • Compare your level of confidence at the time you completed Part I to your confidence level for Part II, when you used this decision aid.
  • Was it helpful? What were its advantages and disadvantages?

Did it make the decision harder to make or easier to justify?

Support your responses with examples.

What are the profit-maximizing price and output levels? Explain them and calculate algebraically for equilibrium P (price) and Q (output).

Please complete the following two applied problems:

Problem 1:

Robert’s New Way Vacuum Cleaner Company is a newly started small business that produces vacuum cleaners and belongs to a monopolistically competitive market. Its demand curve for the product is expressed as Q = 5000 – 25P where Q is the number of vacuum cleaners per year and P is in dollars. Cost estimation processes have determined that the firm’s cost function is represented by TC = 1500 + 20Q + 0.02Q2.

Show all of your calculations and processes. Describe your answer for each question in complete sentences, whenever it is necessary.

  1. What are the profit-maximizing price and output levels? Explain them and calculate algebraically for equilibrium P (price) and Q (output). Then, plot the MC (marginal cost), D (demand), and MR (marginal revenue) curves graphically and illustrate the equilibrium point.
  2. How much economic profit do you expect that Robert’s company will make in the first year?
  3. Do you expect this economic profit level to continue in subsequent years? Why or why not?

Problem 2:

Greener Grass Company (GGC) competes with its main rival, Better Lawns and Gardens (BLG), in the supply and installation of in-ground lawn watering systems in the wealthy western suburbs of a major east-coast city. Last year, GGC’s price for the typical lawn system was $1,900 compared with BLG’s price of $2,100. GGC installed 9,960 systems, or about 60% of total sales and BLG installed the rest. (No doubt many additional systems were installed by do-it-yourself homeowners because the parts are readily available at hardware stores.)

GGC has substantial excess capacity–it could easily install 25,000 systems annually, as it has all the necessary equipment and can easily hire and train installers. Accordingly, GGC is considering expansion into the eastern suburbs, where the homeowners are less wealthy. In past years, both GGC and BLG have installed several hundred systems in the eastern suburbs but generally their sales efforts are met with the response that the systems are too expensive. GGC has hired you to recommend a pricing strategy for both the western and eastern suburb markets for this coming season. You have estimated two distinct demand functions, as follows:

Qw =2100 – 6.25Pgw + 3Pbw + 2100Ag – 1500Ab + 0.2Yw

for the western market and

Qe = 36620 – 25Pge + 7Pbe + 1180Ag – 950Ab + 0.085Ye

for the eastern market, where Q refers to the number of units sold; P refers to price level; A refers to advertising budgets of the firms (in millions); Y refers to average disposable income levels of the potential customers; the subscripts w and e refer to the western and eastern markets, respectively; and the subscripts g and b refer to GGC and BLG, respectively. GGC expects to spend $1.5 million (use Ag = 1.5) on advertising this coming year and expects BLG to spend $1.2 million (use Ab = 1.2) on advertising. The average household disposable income is $60,000 in the western suburbs and $30,000 in the eastern suburbs. GGC does not expect BLG to change its price from last year because it has already distributed its glossy brochures (with the $2,100 price stated) in both suburbs, and its TV commercial has already been produced. GGC’s cost structure has been estimated as TVC = 750Q + 0.005Q2, where Q represents single lawn watering systems.

Show all of your calculations and processes. Describe your answer for each item below in complete sentences, whenever it is necessary.

  1. Derive the demand curves for GGC’s product in each market.
  2. Derive GGC’s marginal revenue (MR) and marginal cost (MC) curves in each market. Show graphically GGC’s demand, MR, and MC curves for each market.
  3. Derive algebraically the quantities that should be produced and sold, and the prices that should be charged, in each market.
  4. Calculate the price elasticities of demand in each market and discuss these in relation to the prices to be charged in each market.
  5. Add a short note to GGC management outlining any reservations and qualifications you may have concerning your price recommendations.
