Dewar (2010) indicates that the field of economics can provide a structure to examine “the implications of individual decision making and help define the alternative mechanisms to improve resource allocation” (p. 9), but it cannot be used as a solution to all issues concerning healthcare access and delivery.

Economists prepare economic analysis briefs to provide insight into how economic market forces operate. For this assignment, prepare an economic analysis brief in the form of a PowerPoint presentation that describes the role of government, economic policies, and/or mandates in the healthcare industry to demonstrate an understanding of Module 2. (You can choose to examine the United States or a foreign country.) Discuss and synthesize key elements from at least two recent scholarly articles (found in the CSU-Global Library) that address one of the following points:

• Types of government intervention used to address health and medical care needs.
• Apply economic models, theories, or assumptions in government economic policies.
• Assess economic policy recommendations for healthcare stakeholders.

Your analysis should be thoughtful and thorough, well written, and should include:

• A minimum of 15 slides (not including the title and reference slides).
• Speaker’s notes containing 50-100 words per slide to elaborate on the visual/text content on the slide.
• Appropriate graphics, multi-media, and other visual elements to enhance the presentation delivery.

I would suggest that you look more closely at the PPACA and the MHPEA. The MHPEA mandated that insurers treat mental health treatment the same as physical health treatment so that mental health care was accessible to all. The ACA expanded the MHPEA but neither of them “offered services”.

I think it would be helpful when you write your papers for the classes to have a friend or fellow student look at them and provide some feedback on the clarity of your sentences. I’m just giving you a heads up because I think you may need some assistance with your writing. You can also submit papers to the on-line writing center with MU and they can assist with editing.

Briefly respond to the following two questions. Your responses and your participation in the group discussion will be worth points.

In your opinion, how can we ensure that persons with mental illness get appropriate treatment in the community? What suggestions do you have to improve the mental health system. For example, should psychiatric hospitalization be more readily available?

Think about the issue of whether jails should be used as mental health treatment facilities. Should treatment be available in jails? If so, who should provide it and what kinds of treatment should be available. Are there better ways than jail time to treat persons with mental illness who commit low level crimes?

As usual, provide a citation or two to back up your arguments. Citations can be media (popular press, magazines, etc.) or scientific journal articles.

As you prepare for your Final Project, take this opportunity to create a mock presentation using PowerPoint, or other professional presentation software and present your action research proposal to your peers through Jing, Present.me, or PowerPoint to create your presentation with both a visual and audio component.

Your visual presentation must include all nine components of the action research plan and follow the guidelines for creating effective presentations as discussed in the required and recommended video tutorials located in the recommended and required readings section.

In order to ensure your viewers experience the full effect of your mock proposal, it is imperative that your voice and a visual presentation complement each other as you explain all nine of its components. Therefore, it is a requirement you include the video component with audio as you share your action research proposal.

You must keep your presentation under five minutes. Keep in mind, the emphasis is more on you and your ability to share your knowledge, heart, and passion about your topic, while leading your viewers through the nine components of your mock action research proposal. Your visual presentation will provide the main points of each of the nine components, as you follow the seven by seven rule. But your oral complement will elaborate to fill in the blanks between those main points. Thus, you will have the opportunity to provide all the details, important information, and passion behind it to your audience verbally. This will not only appeal to both visual and auditory learners, simultaneously, it will make your presentation more enjoyable and enriching for both you and your viewers. Include a link to your presentation or attach it to your discussion post.

Sample Action Research Report Evaluation

The purpose of this assignment is for you to review a FINISHED action research report showing the entire planning process and allowing you to put together visibly, what a finished action research proposal consists of including the planning stage you are responsible for in this course as well as the results portion of the report for which you will be responsible for in EDU675 (MAED students). Having this exposure to a finished report should help you make connections with what you’ve been planning as well as what you will be actually implementing through your proposed intervention/innovation once you begin EDU675.

According to Mills (2014), “To evaluate a research study competently, you must have knowledge of each component of the research process” (p. 215). For this assignment, you will consider all that you have learned and practiced up to this point in our course and apply criteria for evaluating action research to the following:Sample Action Research Report 1: Effect of Technology in Enthusiasm for Learning Science. Finally, you will include a self-reflection. Note that it is acceptable to write in the first-person voice in the reflection.

Content

The assignment needs to include the following areas of content.

Area of Focus (1 point): Describe the area of focus and whether it involves teaching and learning. Written Communication

As preparation for the final research paper, formulate a theory about the correlation between measurable independent variables (causes) and one measurable dependent variable (the effect). Be sure to have at least two independent variables for proposed research paper. The topic proposal should include the following four items which serve as the foundation for the final research paper after instructor feedback is given.

Create a draft of your report including the data.   This copy of the data may be in an Excel spreadsheet.

2) Definition of Variables

Assignment 3: External and Internal Audit

Auditing is a very broad topic that covers all aspects of an organization. An audit not only examines the accuracy of financial statements but also examines the effectiveness of internal controls as well as the efficiency of overall operations of the organization. To accomplish the objectives of different types of audit within an organization, the audit function is broken down into the role of internal auditor and the external auditor.

In your role as a partner in the CPA firm Dewey, Wright, and Moore, review the following information.

Dewey, Wright, and Moore has just been approached by a new client, AV Imports and Exports, a company that trades goods with various countries. You are in charge of an audit engagement. To determine whether to take on the engagement, you proceed with the overall assessment of risk. You meet with company management, the board of directors, and the audit committee, and begin communication with the previous audit firm. You also schedule a meeting with the internal auditors to learn more about their role and function within the organization.

In preparation for your scheduled meeting, research the external and internal audit function using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Complete the following:

• Compare the similarities between the responsibilities of the external and internal audit functions.

You have just been promoted from front-line supervisor to be one of the firm’s senior managers. During your business education, you learned that the primary role of a manager is to make good decisions. As a supervisor, you had frequently been making routine decisions, but you realize that decision making for the overall company can and will have far greater impact on the company and its employees.

Your boss, the chief executive officer (CEO), realizes that you do not have much practice in this higher level, decision-making process and has asked you to write a memo describing your understanding of how to make important decisions.

• Research specific leadership and management traits and theories necessary for managing a multidisciplinary and multicultural health care organization to promote organizational effectiveness.
• Present how strategic planning, performance improvement, and information systems are interrelated and fundamental to the delivery of quality health care.

Research Requirements

Academic research and papers must meet certain standards of quality that are recognized by the academic community.  What constitutes quality academic research?

• The use of primary (original), credible sources written by experts in the field of study.
• Ensuring secondary sources are supported by research in primary sources.
• Making sure all research is relevant and that material used is pertinent to the area of study.
• In graduate work, the use of peer-reviewed journal articles (journal articles reviewed by recognized experts in the relevant field of study) is required.
• Keep in mind that educational websites may be appropriate, in some cases, but should be evaluated carefully.

The Ashford University Library offers many excellent databases and other resources to assist you in conducting scholarly research.

What sources are not acceptable for academic research and referencing?

• Encyclopedias
• Dictionaries
• Wikipedia, other wikis, or blogs
• Websites and other sources that do not provide quality researched materials (e.g., they do not use credible sources to support the information in the document).

All research must reflect professional academic protocol and must be documented according to APA standards as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Creating the Final Project

You may choose to present your research is the form of an eight- to ten-page research paper (excluding title and reference pages) or a comprehensive 10- to 15-slide PowerPoint presentation (excluding title and reference slides) with detailed speaker notes.  In either case, the content of the assignment must include each of the elements listed below:

1. Introduction

   Describe the issue.  Include why it was selected, the perspective of your approach to the issue, and the scope of the paper or presentation.  In essence, describe in this area what is being covered.  Be specific and to the point.  This is an important part of the project as it engages the reader and sets the scope of the research.

2. Statement of the Issue to be Investigated

   Describe why the topic is a relevant problem or issue.  It is important to provide literature sources in support of the importance of the need/issue/topic.  For example, if you are interested in researching the issue of nutrition in early childhood brain development among American children – cite literature identifying the scope of the problem (for example:  the number of malnourished children, the implications of malnourishment on learning and brain development; and long term implications).  Overall, this section should detail what makes this topic or issue so important that you are spending time and energy researching it.  What is the impact of the problem if nothing is done to correct the situation?

3. Research Sources

   This section documents the relevant research reflecting the topic of the Final Project.  In this section, paraphrased narratives of the actual research studies are reported and should represent the current research related to the topic area.  In general, your research should:

   1. Identify your chosen topic and what has happened in the specific research of the topic (describe the study, sample, findings, important points from the discussion in the research article, and any variables that may influence the findings of the research).
   2. Discuss any key elements of the topic that may be instructional, legal, ethical, social, etc. (what is projected if nothing is done? what has been tried?).  Support this section with relevant resource citations.
   3. Provide an analysis of the research articles used, including: explaining what was done in the study, what the target population was, information about who did the research (the author), what was found with the study, and any implications of the findings to your topic or issue.
4. Conclusion

   In this section, provide a general, but thorough summary reviewing:  why the topic was selected; the problem or issue briefly stated; the approach that was used; findings; and solutions.  In this section, the reader or audience should have a good idea of what the researcher did and what was found.

5. References

   The references should be listed on a new page or slide and must be formatted according to APA requirements as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.  You must use a minimum of six to eight scholarly sources.
