Prompt 1

In the Holistic view of health and illness, there is a definite distinction made between the outcomes of healing and cure. One of the ideas stated in the reading is that healing can occur even in the absence of cure.  Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why?  Give sources to support your position.  Be sure to include clinical experiences from your nursing practice and citations from the readings or the online library.

Prompt 2

In the lecture you saw that there are four holistic modalities to self—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Choose one modality and discuss how improving health in that modality will improve health in the whole being. Give examples from your clinical experience and cite sources from the readings or the online library.

The essence of presentation is making yourself known, along with your ideas. There are at least two reasons to begin the planning of any presentation with a consideration of yourself. The first is that your knowledge of yourself and what you are thinking about provides a solid foundation for elaborating on your ideas and your topics. The second is that your constant self-assessment means that you can define and communicate your own feelings and beliefs about a topic from a deeper level of metacognition, or self-knowledge, and can therefore think more critically and objectively about your topic.

Before building a presentation, consider the types of things that you have done and the types of things that are important to you. These things will be woven into every presentation you give, whether formal or informal, large or small, and regardless of the topic. Here, you will think about yourself as a primary topic and reflect upon your own academic and professional goals. This approach to preparation will influence the ways in which you present in the future.

On April 9, 2003 the U.S. congressional Subcommittee on Health (part of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce) heard testimony from various witnesses on the topic “Strengthening and Improving Medicare.”

Since that time, the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA ) was passed to extend the life of Medicare programming. Part of this legislation involved the passage of Part D (Prescription Drug Insurance). Another significant part of this legislation involved various Pay For Performance (P4P) incentives. In this project you will read the short paper on Medicare Reform (I have attached the article). Then you will search the Internet for articles (2003 or newer) summarizing recent legislation/changes related to Medicare Part A-D programming.

Your job is to summarize and synthesize the most recent Medicare related legislation from the articles located  and analyze what impact this will have on the involved stakeholders (i.e., patients, providers, third-party payers).

As mentioned in previous weeks, Cooper’s ethical decision-making model and Waldo’s Map of Ethical Obligations assist responsible public administrators in assessing and addressing the ethical dilemmas that they will confront during their careers. Public administrators must consider all underlying factors of a dilemma and the potential solutions in order to ensure the most proper outcome. Sometimes the chosen outcome may involve actions that serve to work against the wishes of superiors in the organization.

For this Assignment, review the case study in the text, “Guerrilla Government in EPA’s Seattle Regional Office.” Identify an ethical issue within this case study. Consider the competing obligations and responsibilities that these individuals faced and how they determined whether their actions were right. Also, think about the impact of guerrilla government on the political appointees,  organization, and public policy.

The Assignment (3–4 pages in APA format): Your paper should include the following:

• A description of the ethical issue you identified in the “Guerrilla Government in EPA’s Seattle Regional Office” case study
• A description of the issues the political appointees faced in this case and an explanation of federal ethics law violations
• An explanation of why you think the career employees were motivated to use guerrilla tactics as a solution despite the risks to their careers (e.g., competing obligations) and whether their choice of guerrilla action was ethical
• An explanation of how these actions affected the organization and public policy
• A description of the actions leaders within the EPA might have taken to manage guerrilla government and an explanation of how those actions might have changed the outcome of the situation
• An evaluation of  the potential lessons for public administrators and the importance of these lessons

The price of an item is an important component of decision making in procurement but is not the only factor for a final decision.  Research a company that has used a purchasing strategy to improve the financial impact of the company. Write a three- to four-page (excluding title page and reference pages), APA formatted paper that evaluates the overall components of the company’s pricing strategy.  Include relevant examples from external research to support your evaluation.  Where necessary, use scholarly sources from the Ashford University Library, in addition to the textbook, to obtain support for your evaluation.
